... Up in the Air In a word: Wow. If I had seen this last year, it easily would have been in my Top 3 (behind Up and Observe and Report). A compelling character piece manned by George Clooney, Up in the Air is well-written, well-directed, well-acted, and one of the best movies that I've seen in a very long time. This is the kind of film that restores my faith in drama: A movie that creates realistic characters whom you honestly feel for. I absolutely loved this film. I loved Clooney, I loved Farmiga, and I loved Kendrick. I really don't have anything bad to say about it; great character piece that made me smile and cry and really appreciate these kinds of films. Refreshing and real, I loved it. HIGHLY recommended. 5/5. ... Lesbian Vampire Killers Shaun of the Dead. With Vampires. Literally. Director Phil Claydon uses the Loser Hero/Fat Side kick model to create a bumbling vampire-killing buddy comedy. It's not bad... Unfortunately our Main Bumbling Hero (Simon Pegg's Counterpart) is a total TOOL - both poorly written and poorly acted - so the film relies so heavily on his rotund partner that it becomes confusing why the Goofy Fatman isn't slotted to save the day and the girl. On top of that, while most of the humor is fairly amusing, a lot of it honestly feels forced, the two fools playing fool-stereotypes instead of the average clumsy everymen. But that's OK; the kills are solid, the gore delightful, and the funny parts ARE truly funny (laughed out loud a couple of times). There's some quality direction here. I just think that they could have done with a better hero. And maybe some rewriting. Regardless, if you're looking for a mindless British horror comedy, then give it a watch - you'll have fun with it. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention: If you were hoping for softcore porn with lots of lesbians and boobs, you'll be disappointed. I know I was. 3/5. The whole style of it is so overdone. But people keep lapping it up so the studios keep putting it out. |

Killer Nun Apart from one of the nuns being unbelievably sexy and nude at times, it is a pretty average flick, maybe it lost something in being overdubbed but it just didn't really entertain. 5/10

Are they "famous" in the UK? I thought that Mathew Horne was flat-out awful... |

Yup. They are a pretty big deal over here. They had alot of success for a sitcom they did (Gavin & Stacy). They basically tapped into the 'yoof' culture and milked it for every penny they could. Thankfully the broadcasting companies are handing them plenty of rope to hang themselves with and they are doing there part by churning out utter crap. We got stacks of quality comedy over here that doesn't get a chance because of middle- class sell out crap like Horne & Corden. Horne is probably about the most wooden comedian you'll ever see and Corden is about as smug as one man can get.
