Been on a bit of a catch-up lately.
The Children - 7/10 Replace the zombies in the zombie formula with virus-stricken kids and you got The Children. Actually pretty good...any movie where kids are killed is aces in my book. Pandorum - 2/10 Massive let-down on this one from me. I think I expected it to be a different kind of movie than it was (truth be told, I was expecting something more supernatural like Event Horizon). Didn't like that they advertised the movie with the "peeling off the skin" cryo-freeze part as if it was supposed to be something terrifying, and then when you actually watch it it's some downplayed bullshit that is an after effect of being in the cryofreeze. I was expecting something more sinister...I dunno, bio-spill? possession? Anything. Also Quaid has been phoning in his roles for awhile now..."Bower? You there? Priviate Bower? You Copy Bower????...............................BOWER????" . That was basically the extent of his role here. Terrible. The Thaw - 6/10 Surprisingly entertaining, though not very "good". These Ghosthouse Pictures movies actually aren't too bad from what I have seen. It's shot pretty clean and it's definitely a formula horror flick, but it's got some decent creepy-crawly and vomit moments. Definitely a good flick to watch if you get freaked out by those bot-flies. Plague Town - 6/10 English survivalist horror about a family that gets lost out in the country while trying to go for a nice "quality time" vacation with the family. In a very Hills Have Eyes kind of way, they just happened to stop in the worst part ever, near a town full of birth defected mutants that like to steal people in hopes of breeding the genetic defects out of their system. Generally, not a plot I'm too thrilled out...the "makin baybeez" bullshit is old and tired to me. It's not shocking, it's stupid....but happily, they don't really go to the lengths that some of the other movies in the genre go to to get their point across (Hills have eyes 2 (2007) is the biggest example there). The movie is full of flaws that make it hard to give anything higher than a 6, but I did like it and their were actually some really creepy parts...like this bitch: Worth seeing once, for sure. |
