Four years...
I dug up this thread a few nights back, and it brought back so many memories it's difficult to name or number them. So much has happened since October 2009, yet it feels like it was only yesterday that this forum was brimming and buzzing with activity, tournament matches used to last ~15-20 minutes at the most by the time 10-12 votes were cast and we had a clear winner, ~20 threads in General Section had new replies within 10 minutes, and we had at least 35-40 members online at the same time... ...how time has flown. Yes, ideas are bulletproof, but in order to make an idea into a realised success, wholehearted contributions from the entire community are required. Even V's stand against the utopian Parliament wasn't successful until the community woke up and took up his cause as their own. An idea cannot be a success story unless and until it has the numbers behind it. And in today's world, all successes and failures are measured by numbers. That's what Horror Dot Com's community has been. The numbers behind the ideas, which have been immensely successful time and time again. Thank you yet again. Eight years and counting. The mirror is the same, but the reflections have changed...many of the old guard have disappeared or have gone out, NEW Radio is no more, facebook has come and conquered foruming big-time, new faces have taken over... Maybe some fresh and novel ideas are the need of the hour, and so that rehashed stuff doesn't turn our forum into a more staler unit than it already has become in recent times, I have decided to take a backseat from now on. New threads/posts from me will be less, maybe minimal. We need new blood, new ideas, new directions. Let's change the direction of the winds a bit, and see where they lead us. Needless to say, the ongoing tournament will be my absolute last. For long we have run with those ideas, but like all good things/times, it must come to an end. For fresh ideas to thrive and flourish, older ideas have to make way. I will be around. Behind the shadows, lurking, doing my moderating duties to the best of my abilities, and hoping that newer, fresher ideas take over and take HDC towards unseen, full of potential directions. Remembering NEW Radio, monalisa, and stygianwitch. R.I.P. Congratulations to Cheebs and Disease yet again. And...Happy Halloween, HDC.

I remember when I joined in 2004 how active this place was. I don't want to dwell in the past, but I kinda miss those days! :D

Facebook's negative impact upon forums is undoubtable, but I do think the big FB's grip is loosening. People don't use it quite how they used to - less statuses (blame Twitter I guess) and typically less group activity. I know many people who pretty much just keep it for photos, event organising and keeping in touch with distant friends-relatives.
HDC has definitely been quieter than this, and with any luck it'll soon be louder again. I do miss the days where the first page of each forum was filled with bold thread titles, but who knows - perhaps they'll return.

I hope this place can survive without your efforts but I understand your reasons and still hope to see you around here. I'll have to try and come on here more often.

HDC shall rise again!!
Besides, this place is still plenty awesome and we have had a few new posters over this year who seem to be sticking around.... Make sure you don't stray too far from this place V! |

Shame to here that V but I can't even imagine how much work goes into a site like this.
I'm really glad I found it ... I quit FB ages ago in favour of more focussed sites, I very much enjoy the threads here even though games aren't really my thing.
