Cherry Falls
Anyone eles find this movie really mean spirted. I just dont think that a tongue in cheek post modern horror film has the right tone to deal with gang rape and child abuse.

Well, any filmmaker has the right to make whatever film they want to, about whatever subjects they want to, as long as nothing illegal is involved in the process- such as child pornography.
You may not like what some films are, but that's what freedom of choice is all about. |

I don't think it's meanspritied to show somebody victimized in a way that people are actually victimized. It draws attention to a certain kind of bad behavior that sometimes gets ignored.

It's very jaring to go from a comic relief comedy scene. To a scene about gang rape. Of course anyone can make the film they like. Just giving my opinion. |

I do agree that the subjects touched on in Cherry Falls are delicate but in a horror movie no holds are barred.Thats a part(albeit a small part) of the appeal to me.Will the Director take me to a point where I am uncomfortable..and will I accept it in the context of the work? I dont look to horror films in search of sensitivity. If I did I think I would often be outraged!

I agree with what is said. My problem is that I just dont think the script is strong enough to balance the comedy and serious stuff. It makes for an awkward film. It almost feels as if it started as a more serious film. then they felt it had to be a bit more postmodern like scream, and forced in all these silly moments.

I think that increases the impact of the gang rape, because it takes people off guard. That's how these things occur. Think about the sitcom scenes in Natural Born Killers for example.
