The Black Cat is for sure my favorite Poe story.
And is so well written! Writers "wannabies" should have a look at his works, as he his THE master. |

I've never read anything by Poe. What would be a good one to start with?

It matters how morbid you prefer. A good starter for Poe would be some of the poems... I wouldn't recomend starting most of the stories until you've gotten used to the style of poetry. If you start one of the more morbid stories, like The Black Cat, you may get scared... then again I could be wrong. :D

Favourite would have to be The Raven, just on the number of times I read it.
Have any of you played 'The Dark Eye'? It's an adventure game for the PC, similar to Myst. It's all done using stop frame animation and puppets. It's probably the best adaption of Poe work I've ever seen, including what I've seen in film. Very creepy game, but also extremely difficult to find. (*cough* emule *cough*) Not very gamey per se, more like an interactive story or Poe museum. And it is old now, so don't expect high res graphics.
