i love TCM chainsaw.

never understood the problem people had with humor in horror.

as anything - it's been used badly in horror movies - but so has bad acting/writing/direction - and crap effects.

when the writing is well done - humor adds more than just comedic relief .. it makes you feel safe for a second which makes the horror elements even more horrible.
if you have 90 minutes of unrelenting horror with nothing to balance it .. no highs and lows .. then that kind of horror movie often fails - not always - but often.

it makes the characters a bit more multidimentional.

i like when you identify with or at least like a character in a film. not everyone walks around miserable their whole lives - even in times of tension. people use it in real life as stress relief when the shit is hitting the fan ... why wouldnt someone do it in a movie ?

sometimes life is funny ... for most people. when fantastical films have their roots grounded in realistic characters - i find i invest more in the film.

otherwise you could just end up with a flat souless movie.
