Zombie Apocalypse vs. Alien Apocalypse
 

So i was talking to my friend the other day and somehow we got into a conversation as to what apocalypse we would prefer if it was going to happen and we were given the choice between Aliens and Zombies. She said Alien and i said Zombie.

Here are my reasons why i chose Zombie:

1. You can kill Zombie's easier
2. Aliens are highly intelligent and have advanced weaponry and spacecrafts. Zombies are dead people who shuffle around and sometimes run. This kinda goes with Zombies are easier to kill but it also adds to the fact that we wouldnt be wiped out as quickly.
3. You can barricade yourself somewhere to fight off the zombies. Aliens are smart and can blow the doors down or find some way in.
4. Zombies are limited. We know that they are just dead people/infected people come back to life to kill us but there are millions of possible variations of Aliens out there. Who knows what we would get. We could be fighting giant bugs, aliens that look like humans, little gray men..etc. With that kind of selection, it would be harder to create a plan of survival.

Now there are her reasons for an Alien invasion:
1. If attacked by an alien, there is a chance that you can survive the attack and still live. A Zombie only needs to bite you once and you're screwed.
2. She likes aliens better.

I swear to god those were her only reasons. So what does everyone else think?

Basically, I can make a 20 - 50 page essay as to why the zombie apocalypse would be better, but the most basic argument would be that a zombie apocalypse - all creepiness of the following statement ignored - would be more fun.

I agree with that statement, creepiness be damned. Getting blown up by aliens wouldn't be any fun. Fighting Zombies could be though despite the fact that they used to be humans.

I just remembered another one my friend said. She brought up that with a zombie apocalypse you might have to kill a loved one who has been turned. I countered that by saying that aliens might be able to disguise themselves as your friends and family and might even be able to turn them into slaves or aliens themselves.

Agreed. Plus there's the common thing in things like literature about you being able to kill an infected friend or family member - it's more of an act of relieving them from something hellish (an act of love in many ways) than anything else.

That sounds much better in many ways than killing (or at least attacking) someone who looks exactly like your friend or family member.

Although when someone becomes a Zombie are they trapped in their bodies experiencing themselves spinning out of control and becoming a monster or is it something more? When you become a zombie do you die and your soul departs leaving your body with a life of its own? If thats the case, you're not really putting your loved one out of their misery because they already are. What you are now fighting is just their empty shell.

But if that is the case, then killing them shouldnt be hard because its not them, just a husk of what they used to be. Still shooting someone you care about and watching their blood and brains spill out and knowing that you caused that has got to be difficult and its something i'm not sure i could do.

like everybody else said zombie's are more easy to kill, but what sort of zombies are we talking about.you have the ones that move slow they are def easy to run away from,then u have the fast running ones they are def more scary.but i am def for zombie apocalypse.

I think you just need to think about how we treat apes, because for an alien species to reach us from afar, the relative intelligence difference would be similar. We respect them and see them as smart, but we still dominate them, control them without any consent. I assume that is how an alien race would treat us, even if benevolent. We have no problem upturning an ape ecosystem if it's for our own progression and benefit - if they wanted resources and ran their ships from, say, tarmac (random, I know), they would probably have no qualms destroying all of our roads and paved areas.

So are you saying you'd rather fight Aliens because there's a chance for our survival as long as the aliens dominate us and treat us like a lower species like how we treat apes?

That makes sense but given that choice i think i'd rather be wiped out then demoralized and controlled.

same as, i would rather be whiped out than be controled,it sounds like slavery.
i just could not live like that, i would rather take my chance with the zombies, at least u got more chance fighting back. if aliens could get to earth they are more likely to be much more intelligent than us, and that is scary.
plus what sort of weapons might they have compared to us, they would have had to build a good ship to reach us, so there weapons are going to be so much more deadly than what we prob have.

I agree with Villain's opening arguement so much that I don't feel any need to read the rest of this thread before I tell anyone dissenting that they are wrong.

But what about what happens in the film Evilution (not a great film really)when an alien comes to earth and turns humans into zombies-does that count as alien or zombie invasion?

Well i guess it would depend on how it turned out afterwards. Did the alien just let the zombies do the fighting or did it fight itself using alien methods? Because that's where it really matters.

The alien kind of got the zombies to do its dirty work before defending itself when it was discovered. So I suppose its an alien invasion with the zombies being its weapons but anyhow I went with zombie invasion-as long as there's no alien intelligence behind them-just because zombies are more terrifying being dead humans coming alive-an alien would be alive not dead therefore less frightening.

Ahh, yes - probably should have clarified. I'd rather have the Zombie apocalypse than become guinea pigs for some aliens experiments.

Im terrified of zombies especially the ones who like to run I'd rather deal with aliens than getting a heart attack or passing out from seeing a dead person shuffling or running towards me lol

you got more chance of living with zombies.

If I was alone trying to fight them off no I would die cuz I have terrible aim (don't u use guns or something to blow their heads off for them to die?) but if I was part of group then my chances of living go up extremely high

Well Aliens would be the same thing, you'd want to use guns to kill them as well. But i get your reasoning behind your choice and its a good reason. Fear is a big motivator.
