I can't stand these people.

ferretchucker 05-24-2010 07:40 AM

They're views do absolutely sicken me, although I have to say so long as they do not disrupt the memorial (shout over the talking) then I think it's brilliant that we live in countries where people are free to do that. I don't agree with their views or condone their behaviour but their right to do it...

TheWickerFan 05-24-2010 08:09 AM

This man truly is the scum of the Earth. If you would like to see Reverend Phelps and family get totally humiliated, check out the episode of Michael Moore's The Awful Truth featuring The Sodomobile. Hilarious!

AMICUS HORROR 05-24-2010 09:01 AM

I saw that programe a while back, that family is sick, felt sorry for the kids being brought up like that. and disrespecting funerals like that, its very upseting

PlagueBearer 05-24-2010 09:12 AM

Hmmm.. I value the freedom of speech, but i dont like the fact that they get to brainwash theyr children into mindless haters..

Posher778 05-24-2010 09:19 AM

Freedom of speech is one thing. These people full on bash the hell out of everyone. They walk on dangerous ground with their protests.

fortunato 05-24-2010 04:56 PM

Here's the rub: people will spend so much time speaking out against these people, fuming and hating them, but it only makes them feel justified. They're constantly saying that in interviews, the fact that they're so hated proves to them that they're on the right path.
It only makes sense to want to smack them silly and say "How can you treat people like this?", but in actuality it's best to ignore them.

Elvis_Christ 05-24-2010 05:16 PM

Read about this the other day.

This bullshit will piss off a lot of people and it will get ugly. If you think Dio is in any way satanic you're a fucking idiot. If there is a hell a good chunk of "Christians" will be burning in it for their hate crimes. Turn the other cheek and let his friends and family grieve in peace.

Free Speech For The Dumb.

milktoaste 05-24-2010 08:26 PM

Funerals are sacred, and screwing with them can be even be seen as an act of war among certain families. Have they always protested Ronnie James, or are they only singling him out now because he's dead and in the news?

Those people are disgusting.

Posher778 05-24-2010 08:27 PM

All out hatred like these people preach brings pain, and pain brings death. I pity them.

Indeed, stupid people. But they have the right to say it anyway. I bet for every opinion I have EVER made there is someone who disagreed with it, but nonetheless I was allowed to say it. Just because there are more of us who disagree with them, doesn't mean they have lost that right.

(I know you weren't saying they didn't deserve it, just wanted to fully make my point).

PlagueBearer 05-25-2010 08:12 AM

Yeah as stupid as it gets, but they are obviously smart enough to stay in the borderland for whats allowed and not. A new racism section perhaps...?
This is from our penal code in Norway :

"Penal Code § 135a

Anyone who willfully or through gross negligence publicly put forward a discriminatory or hateful speech be punished by fines or imprisonment for up to 3 years. Same with a public utterance made, see § 7, paragraph 2, is considered an expression when it is set up so that it is suitable to reach a larger number of people. As an utterance is considered the use of symbols. Complicity is punishable in the same way.
With discriminatory or hateful speech does it mean to threaten or insulting anyone, or promote hatred, persecution or contempt towards anyone because of their:
a) skin color, or national or ethnic origin,
b) religion or belief, or
c) gays orientation, lifestyle or orientation.

Added by Act June 5, 1970 No. 1934, as amended by Laws May 8, 1981 No. 14, January 10, 2003 No. 2, 3 June 2005 No 33 (effective January 1, 2006 according to Decree. 17 June 2005 No 608) ."

Is this an apropriate law section? Or do you think it comes in the way for the `freedom` of speach? Interested in your opinions guys...

If you find some parts in the text making no sense, its probably because i used google translator...

they are allowed to say what they want, it doesn't mean they can't be beaten horribly afterwards.

There is a difference between exercising your freedom of speech and jeopardizing public safety by inciting a riot or commiting a hate crime.

The Phelps clan is very well-versed in the law and exactly how much they can get away with in terms of demonstrating, but they might've finally gone too far. Not too long ago, the father of a soldier who died and was brought back for his funeral got understandably upset when the Phelps clan showed up to demonstrate (they don't like U.S. soldiers because U.S. soldiers defend a country that defends homosexuality or some crazy reason like that);so he managed to arrange to question their actions in the State Supreme Court.

Yes, I understand that groups like the Phelps clan have the right to say how they feel, but spewing hatred at a funeral? Phelps is a sick SOB.

PlagueBearer 05-25-2010 10:10 AM

Deportation of the Phelps to Vozrozhdeniya would be a nice solution -

ferretchucker 05-25-2010 10:52 AM

Oh yeah, it's completely immoral and sick. I watched a programme on them a while back. They're homophobic hate mongers who have no solid arguments for what they preach and are dictated by an idiot.

HOWEVER. They ARE staying within the law. Technically.

Hopefully after the State Supreme Court gets involved, they will make it illegal to picket at a funeral.

LOL ferret, you sure love "rights"

ferretchucker 05-26-2010 02:39 PM

I don't get it, but I'm pretty sure that was some sort of joke at my expense...

You know, the WBC has a blog where you can ask questions and they guarantee an answer. I sent them a very civil email pointing out the contradictions of their particular beliefs....have yet to get a response... this was about a year ago.

I like to think I won.

LOL I just noticed that you kept mentioning rights in this thread, that's all.

anyway... their right to free speech doesn't grant them an immunity to bullets or dog poop or anything.

Oh, I get ya. Yeah, I did kinda notice my fingers repeating the same pattern on the keyboard a lot.

And if they're God loves them and hates EVERYBODY else then I'm sure they'll have some sort of immunity. IF.
