Cutting Class
Funny seeing Brad Pitt in this one! |
Night of Demons
Love the opening credits. Bit of a slow start, but it was great once it got going. I rather enjoyed it. Fun effects and story, great from beginning to end. |
THE CHILDREN (1980)-After FRIDAY, THE 13TH was such a big hit, it seemed there was a new horror flick or two every week-and I tried to see as many as I could. Saw this in the theater-with a Three Stooges short- and thought it was pretty bad and 35 years later, it's still pretty bad.
However, withe passing of age, I noticed some serious social no-nos in the story, noticed Rita Montone (the hooker who gets scalped in MANIAC) makes an appearance, Harry Manfredini scores the film (with what sounds like F13 leftovers) and the lead actress is Gale Garnett who had a big hit with "WE'll Sing In The Sunshine" back in the 60's! ** |

PET SEMATARY (1989). Even if it's a variation on "The Monkey's Paw", one of my favorite King books. The movie has potential and some really good scenes, especially>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILER ALERT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> where Gage is killed...found this incredibly hard hitting and very difficult to watch, especially if you have a little one.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Some decent grue too, but just found the whole Creed family annoying (the whiney Mother/Daughter combo and the endlessly pratfalling Dad) and some different actors may have helped. But kudos for casting Fred Gwynne, a perfect choice for Jud Crandall. Plenty of potential, but still find this a misfire that really could have been better. **1/2

Crocodile (1980)
Underrated Jaws ripoff with a crocodile. |
Orloff Against the Invisible Dead
"I had to kill him-" "You murdered him?!" "It was for science!" |
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
Still fascinates me. |

Black Christmas (1974)
This is the second movie today that I have no clue why I watched, but I'm really glad I did. I had heard of this movie before but never bothered to seek it out until now. Black Christmas is notable for being one of the earliest slasher movies. The film primarily takes place within a sorority house, and the girls living there are unaware that a killer is lurking in the attic, who continuously calls them during the night. I was very surprised by this one. I'm typically not a fan of slasher movies. They're hit-and-miss for me, and there's only a handful that I really enjoyed. Black Christmas is without a doubt one of the scariest slasher movies I've ever seen. The phone calls are beyond creepy. Each one was so memorably terrifying. The cinematography also amplifies the scare-factor in this movie because of the low lighting in a lot of the scenes as well as the shots from the killer's POV. This movie even had a ton of likable and unique characters that made you really feel for them when they were axed off, and one character, Mrs. Mac, added a ton of good humor to the film. Black Christmas is a must-watch if you want an insanely scary and memorable slasher film. 9/10 |
Glad you enjoyed Black Christmas, Horcrux. It really does deserve the "classic horror" designation.

*checks list* I think with the exception of Jurassic Park, none of my favorites (which is my eyes are perfect, though hardly a film exists that I believe is truly ''perfect'') are a Spielberg. Although I do really like Jaws too. |
Watching "Waxwork" right now

When A Stranger Calls (1979)
I finally decided to sit down and watch this "classic", and I have to say that I was half-terrified, half-disappointed. It's a movie where I loved only certain scenes, while other scenes were a labor to sit through. When A Stranger Calls is a 1979 thriller is about a babysitter who gets creepy phone calls during the night, and when the calls are traced by the police, it starts a deadly chain of events that haunt her for years. This film is infamous for the first 20 minutes, and that alone makes this movie watchable. The opening scene of When A Stranger Calls is agonizingly terrifying, especially watching it alone in the dark. It's without a doubt one of the best openings to a horror film I've ever seen. Up there with The Ring and Suspiria. However, after the first 20 minutes, the film takes a huge nose dive. I don't want to get into too much detail so that I can avoid spoilers, but I'll just say that it goes from a terrifying suspense film to an unfocused, dull cop revenge thriller. The sudden tonal shift is rather jarring, but I could have forgiven that had the film been much more tight and controlled. It seemed like an hour of filler. Fortunately, the last act of the movie returns to the suspense nature of the first act, and it becomes almost as thrilling as the start of the film. When A Stranger Calls is bookended by some of the scariest scenes in cinema, and that makes this film worth a watch. It's worth laboring through the middle 45 minutes. 5/10 |

I know it's the last seen but as I will be watching it only a few days away on Saturday I am talking about it now. Jaws!! Must be watched on the 4th of July! Usually I watch on the big screen at a local theater but all the annoying ppl ruined it last time so this year it's me and my fairly new 55" TV enjoying in quiet, dark bliss!!!! I feel excited like a child waiting for Santa Claus!!! Or like myself waiting for Halloween to get here and it arrives!!! EXCITED!

A few theaters around here show it every year although I did see it at the Drive In sometime in Spring. I preferred it at the Drive In. The theater you get people laughing at the Special Effects and that does irk me as it's still a movie that back in the day was pretty scary. I was born in 75 but I will always remember my Mom taking me to see it in 3D and it was my fave scary movie ever since. No need for CGI, rogue murderous sharks will always be scary!
I also watched Shark Night to keep the Shark theme going. What has everyone else thought of Shark Night. I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. |

I like Shark Night. I'm a Donal Logue fan and a Sara Paxton fan as well. Shark Night had some decent FX and a pretty weak script, so overall it's a fun watch. I do know some people who HATE it, and they have pretty valid reasons, but for me, it's bloody, has sharks and some talent I like, so thats enough to keep me interested. |

People still jump on the boat scene where the corpse comes out of the hull at night. I love that about Jaws, it still scares people and can make you jump. Shark Night to me was definitely a fun watch. I loved they had a variety of sharks rather than just settling for Bull Sharks or Great Whites. Kudos for some originality |
Just watched Pumpkinhead a few nights ago. I liked how it went a little deeper than most typical "get revenge" films in that the prospect of seeking vengeance could potentially destroy oneself. At least, that's how I saw it. Overall, though, I thought it was very decent. ^-^
