"Night Of The Comet" (1984)
Plot:IMDB A comet wipes out most of life on Earth, leaving two Valley Girls and a truck driver to fight the evil types who survive. Phantom's Review: I remember seeing this film back in the '80's and thinking what a silly, schlocky movie. Well time marches on and I finally see the film again for the first time in decades, and guess what? it's still a silly, schlocky movie. Filled with plot holes the size of a canyon, but for some reason the film is actually quite entertaining, in a "leave your brain at the door kind of way". If your looking for a serious "End Of The World" type of film, then skip this one, if you want some fun, then this is not a bad way to spend an afternoon. |

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Garcia-Adv.jpg Bizarre, disjointed and confusing Peckinpah classic. Warren Oats rocks! The Spook Who Sat by the Door (1973) http://bigmuddyfilm.com/images/33_caps/spook.jpg This is a film that I had on my 'to see' list for years. Damn - I should have watched it earlier. This is an amazing film that far exceeds its blaxploitation trappings. Dan Freeman is the first black CIA agent who gets sick of whitey and the treatment of his people, so using his training he organises a guerrilla army to destroy the system. |
I watched The Shining (1980) and Puppetmaster again last night. Of course, I love the Shining and Puppetmaster is really good, even if it is cheesy.

The Manitou - 1978 Gargoyles - 1972 |
Saint Jack (1979)
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tc8-WFCqf8...Saint+Jack.jpg One of the lesser seen Peter Bogdanovich films - Ben Gazzara plays a pimp on the hussle in Singapore in the early 70's. Good character driven film with great performances from the lead and Denholm Elliott. |
Not so fond of alien type of movie, but just watched 'John Carpenter's The Thing' earlier.
It's a good movie, but did not find it scary. I also think the movie is slow.. good special effects though, a bit creepy on that one. |
Madman (1982) I don't remember seeing this one. Another summer camp style horror adventure. It was interesting seeing Gaylen Ross in it. Nothing special but not terrible by any means. I'd watch it again.

The Changeling
Really enjoyed this. It's spooky as hell with a great performance from George C. Scott. He really plays off the tortured act as you can see his sorrow and loss in every scene and it really helps to explain why he's trying so hard to solve the mystery. |

My latest: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...T2RTL._SX_.jpg Deep in the Woods (2000) Somewhat offbeat French slasher. Felt a bit like a Mario Bava-styled giallo in some ways. Having such low IMDB ratings, I was pleasantly surprised. I found it creepy. 7/10 I also rewatched American Psycho because the sequel is on my DVR this week and I've never seen it. I have no idea what to expect from part II. Also, Ghostbusters. Always funny. |
Near Dark is one of the greatest modern vampire films. Plus Lance Henrickson.

Jaws: The Revenge

I watched the following film(s) for the first time:
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978): 9/10 Don't Look Now (1972): 9/10 Rec (2007): 10/10 Deep Red (1975): 9/10 If you have not seen any of these films, you should definitely watch them because they were all excellent and quite important. |
I still prefer the original IOTBS over the remake, particularly the ending, but I'll agree with you on the others.

I started watching the first "reanimator" film last night.
This is one of the supposedly classic horror films that I have yet to see. I only watched the intro, and up to the end of the opening credits sequence, will be seeing the rest today sometime. I have to say, my initial impression is pretty good. Also, hey, I remember that guy from the frighteners and Star Trek DS9. Looks pretty young here. Some nice shocking gore in the opening scenes, keeps the interest too. The opening credit sequence is fucking excellent. I would consider purchasing this on BluRay already just to have that. Anyways, yeah. Watching that today. |
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Loved it. The story is great and Vincent Price gives an excellent performance as the vengeful doctor. |
DeepStar Six - cheesy 80s at its best!
|
Evil Dead
Finally saw this. I wish the DVD was in better shape; but it was enjoyable!

Dead Time Stories (1986)
http://www.weirdwildrealm.com/filmim...imestories.jpg I like most anthology films but this one was not up to par. Good if you are looking for classic 80's cheesy horror but not frightening. Disappointing since I had hoped it would be a lost gem. |

Threads (1984) As a child of the Cold War, the threat of nuclear holocaust was a constant part of life. Seeing this film for the first time, even so many years later, left me stunned at the idea that this unthinkable scenario, never before had I imagined in such gritty detail, was not all that far off from becoming a reality. Hard to believe, and yet, not that hard. |

Nothing like a good, old-fashioned 80s actioner to cheer up the mood after a dull, depressing day. Ah! That lovely 80s theme music! Reminded me so much of the A-Team TV series. Nostalgia at it's peak. |

Threads is such a quality TVM, hard watch, but well worth it!
Anyone who appreciates Threads should give 'When the Wind Blows' a watch.... It's a beautifully tragic nuclear holocaust cartoon. It was shown over here in the UK back in the 80s one evening over the Christmas holiday (totally inappropriate scheduling) and had a huge effect on me as a kid. Well worth a watch, can be found on youtube too, here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9aHT-IlkHo |
A local theater does "Retro Cinema Night" on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This week's edition was "Young Frankenstein". Went last night with a friend, and had a ball. It's still as funny as it was when it first came out (yes, I saw it in the theater then, too!). It was pretty funny to see all the eye makeup on Gene Wilder. Geez, that man had eyelashes any woman would kill for! :D
