I had really high hopes for this one, and I thought it was surprisingly good. I'm sure some people will disagree, but I thought it was actually scary. The jump scares are well done and the suspense is better than I thought it would be. Lots of build up and foreboding footage. In all honesty, it's pretty disturbing. I think the reason I thought it was so chilling was because it's a very good mix of true crime meets malevolent supernatural force. The story is pretty predictable, but pacing and acting are great, with just enough comic relief to keep it scary and in tone without overdoing it like Insidious did. Another thing I really enjoyed was the amount of scares. Not too few, not too many. Go see it.

will watch it on dvd or tubeplus, only rich folk go to the theater these days

Chernobyl Diaries (2012)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...bylDiaries.jpg

Though it wasn't a found footage flick but weirdly they filmed it somewhat like a POV feature. Pretty average stuff. Interesting fact is it was written by the writer of original Paranormal Activity(Oren Peli) & Asylum's Paranormal Entity. Seems Mr. Oren Peli also liked that rip-off of PA.

Excision (2012)

It was better left to be a horror short; kinda weird at parts but mostly boring, though the cast was good.

Smiley (2012)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...dc/Smiley1.jpg

Pretty low in body count & gore but still I found it quite entertaining for just the way they treated a seemingly common slasher premise without focusing too much on killer's rampage or any particular style of killing. Liked its "Kairo meets Candyman"sort of idea. Thanks to Angra for the rec. One of the few good slashers seen in years, IMO.

Bhoot has a sequal?

Interesting. Gotta see that one.

Not boring, not overly exciting either.

I thought the only thing in that entire movie that didn't suck was the man's creepy voice. The rest was so boring.

It lacked something alright. Maybe some twists and turns and one of the usual jaw dropping final reveals. Just SOMETHING clever.

Alien: Resurrection- 4/10

I don't know. I give it points simply because it's Alien and there's that cool scene in the ladder room, but otherwise it's terribly written, terribly acted, and terribly executed. Not to mention an absolute bitch slap to the first 3 films. I read a Prometheus review where the hater said Alien 4 was better than Prometheus, and I have to say if I saw that person i'd want to toss them off a cliff.

The Crazies- 6/10

I rated this higher before, but after seeing it for the 3rd time, i'm not in love. I enjoy it, and it has some good scary parts and light humor, but it doesn't seem to get better with more viewings. Average, but nothing spectacular. Timothy Olyphant is sexy as ever though, as is Radha Mitchell.

Just got done watching 'Grave Encounters'
I wasn't all that impressed or even scared.

A movie with Kevin Bacon can't be that bad, can it? Can it??

Nothing like a Punisher night to test out a new premium sound card and a fantastic speaker system.
Head & ears still ringing.

I like the one with Thomas Jane in ;-)

American Horror House (Syfy)

Another bad Syfy horror movie. I watched because of Alessandra Torresani. She always has energy in her performances. We get to see some fan service of her in her undies a few times. There is also a good tongue/kiss death scene in the movie. Which I've now concluded isn't rare at all in movies. But this "movie" is still the usual Syfy garbage. Sometimes they make a bad movie intentionally, others they just show a lack of understanding horror movies and miss the point entirely. You are supposed to care about some of the characters. Not just see people killed.

The Villain 10-15-2012 05:49 PM

Argo

This was great. The tension was ridiculous. I've never been that nervous watching a movie before. It really draws you in and makes you care about the characters and the story. Another great directing job by Ben Affleck in my opinion.

Halloween III - Funny how this has nothing to do with Halloween storyline, read why, strange story. Not all that bad in its own right, but as a sequel it is. Trying to decide between 4-5/10
The Roommate - Is this even horror? I'm not sure, but I couldn't even get through it. 1/10
The Abyss - Disappointed in this one, really, painfully slow. The last segment was much better than the beginning, but sitting through 2 hours and 20 minutes just for that was somewhat boring. 3-3.5/5
Hellraiser 2 - This series is still going strong for me, still cool villains and a good story. 7/10

bamahorrorfan87 10-16-2012 03:35 AM

demonic toys

DP McCoy 10-16-2012 10:00 AM

Juan of the Dead - A deadbeat layabout and his oddball friends try to survive a zombie outbreak in Cuba. The humour was hit and miss and the film at times got a little too silly for it's own good, even so I did have quite a lot of fun watching this zombedy. 6/10

Monster Brawl - No redeeming features whatsover. No rating.

Humans vs Zombies - Ditto ^^^.

Grade A action flick. frankly its criminal that this doesn't have a DVD release. Whole thing's on youtube though!

just watched the sender, telepathy dream state 1982 horror / sci-fi balls but worth a look, very enjoyable 6/10 in my book

The Thing prequel

Not great, but better than I expected. CGI a bit over the top at times, but all in all a pretty good effort all around.

Planet of the Vampires 8/10

A great sci-forror flick for its time and had a major influence on Ridley Scott when making Alien.
