"Suburban Gothic" 6-7/10

Where Odd Thomas was a funny horror movie Suburban Gothic, while definitely being a horror comedy, was more of the quirky kind. The story itself was pretty bad, so just watch this one for the quirky characters, coz they were all weird.

Raegan 01-30-2015 05:54 PM

Drive 7/10 impressed by what gore they did have

Raegan 01-30-2015 07:58 PM

Babadook-10/10 holy fuck, FINALLY something not only different but that works, if a thread hadn't already been started about this epic movie I'd have pages.......LOVELOVELOVE

MATINEE (1993) Wonderful Joe Dante film about a William Castle like filmmaker -John Goodman is terrific-brings his new movie to Key West FL during the Cuban Missle Crisis. One of the best films I've ever watched with neat in-jokes, props, a cool cast as well as the joy of watching MANT, the film within a film. ****1/2

Fury

10/10

Best War movie I have seen since Saving Private Ryan!!

Wolves

1/10

Horrible everything.......

Big Driver

5/10

I didn't know this was a Lifetime movie when I rented it, I don't mind some Lifetime movies, but not a Stephen King story. Hollywood manages to mess up many of his stories when they make movies and tv series, I think this could be one of them. I would like to hear other opinions on this one if possible. I also have to add that I am a HUGE Stephen King fan; however, there are a few stories of his that I don't find appealing.

Before I Go To Sleep

8/10

Very dark and mysterious, I like Nicole Kidman in this one.

Made for TV rape&revenge movie from a story by Stephen King
I thought Maria Bello was great in this.

Kill That Bitch, 2014. 5/10

http://i2.wp.com/www.horrorsociety.c...y=80&strip=all

Cool mask, as you can see and Haley Jay so cute and tiny. : ) But thats about it. I can't get into a film that show the start of a brutal act, then switches the camera away, or puts a table or chair in front of the torture/kill/stabbing, then go back and see the aftermath. That does not make a horror film, unless there is a great amazing build up that your mind can..imagine the scene, well that didn't happen. This film will reside next to Easter Casket. Oh, alot of naked women, but that doesn't make a horror movie either..

Maniac, 1980. 10/10

http://horrorhappyhour.com/wp-conten...011/09/l91.jpg

Redeemed myself by watching this masterpiece. : ) Fuck. Such an amazing piece of cinema, it does everything right. Joe Spinell is just perfect. I can feel his insanity. The score...beautiful. I love this movie.

"Beautiful & Twisted" 7/10

For a "Lifetime" flick this one was really bizarre. The mood was just so light and humorous and at the same time you had this downright horrifying story. Made it feel like it was 100% fiction. Weird..

Good watch tho.

Whiplash
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4fdaf4c2.jpg

I liked this but it really seemed to ride on the amazing performance by JK Simmons. I'm really not sure what the point of the movie was or even if it was supposed to be ambiguous but it was an entertaining watch and seriously JK Simmons was great.

SCREAM (1996), Think this is a decent film although it's almost painfully self aware at it's own cleverness. Still, one of Wes Craven's better films and good cast, especially Matthew Lillard who pretty much runs with the film. Wished he could have been in the horrid sequels to liven them up. ***1/2

I've seen quite a few of the films Craven directed. I think Scream was the most enjoyable; and Serpent & the Rainbow was probably the best directed film.

Craven didn't write Scream nor Serpent, by the way. Best one he wrote & directed was probably Nightmare on Elm st.

Kill the Messenger (2014)
Not bad but felt kinda meh.
I think it would've worked better as a documentary.

VANish (2015)
Not bad and quite enjoyable.

Sid & Nancy

Dead Silence. 2 out of 5 stars and that's just 'cause I was able to finish it.

vampyd1977 02-04-2015 11:27 PM

puppet master x

only watched it so i could say id seen them all.

the scribbler

scifi/thriller which i quite enjoyed, a young woman with mental issues is sent to live in a communal building with other crazies and people start committing "suicide"...but is all as it seems. the movie looks fab and runs along at a decent pace, the acting`s quite over the top but were talking about crazy people lol.

The ABC's of Death (2012)

Ehhh not great. And I'm a fan of horror anthologies. This would be great to play during a Halloween party or something as a background filler/conversation piece. A few f'd up stories in this one.

What didn't you like about it? Did you think it was boring, or was something pissing you off about it?

I was bored. I didn't care about anything the characters did or the characters themselves. There was little action, just lots of badly acted boring dialogue and scenes of trying to hard to be creepy. Action including special effects, but not excluding anything else. The only cool part was the ventriloquism, a part I won't mention so as not to ruin the movie, but I assume if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about. As well when Mary Shaw was performing it was interesting. Otherwise it was uninteresting. My suspension of disbelief faltered fast mostly because it seemed there were plot holes, things happening that were too convenient. The cop was irritating, not amusing or whatever else they were trying to have him be. There was no dread, I knew almost everything that was going to happen.

I'm a big Puppet Master fan and am getting ready to watch them all again vampy (it's been awhile). How would you rank the entries. I ask because I've seen some horror fans rank sequels higher than originals---NOES Dream Warriors, etc.

Got ya. Actually, I agree with all your comments - the ventriloquism scene with the woman was the best part. The dialogue was poor, was cop impetus was bland, the characters were flat & didn't evoke much to care about them. I must have been in a good mood when I saw it. I was mostly looking to be scared, & I found it scary, & I mildly enjoyed it.

thats a hard one myers......i think i`d have to go with the original or the 3rd, toulons revenge..i like a back story. the original looks dated obviously now but they never tried to progresss the puppetry in any of the later versions so it doesnt have a different feel if that makes sense.

Birdman (2014)
C
Overrated.
Michael Keaton was awesome but the movie itself wasn't my cup of tea.
It was kinda clever though
spoiler:
Birdman is Batman (with Michael Keaton ofcourse).
He had two movies. Last one was in the early 90's. Just like the last Birdman.
They also mentioned he was doing it long before the comic book hype started.
The Birdman voice is quite similar to Christian Bale's Batman. I think Michael Keaton's Batman spoke with a regular voice.
