I'm working with the festival, so hoping to get any inside scoop before the film gets to the U.S. They're still locking down times, ticket prices, etc. but more info will be coming up on the website (LookEastFestival.com).

I'm a fan of the movie, but I've only seen it on DVD. Will be cool to see it on the big screen and even better to see it in THREE DIMENSIONS!

I'm conflicted by my love of that movie and my hatred of 3D.....

How far back did you have to go to find that quote?

Rumpelstiltskin

I really loved it, funny as hell and some good kill scenes.

Sleepaway Camp 3

I've had the first two for years and never came across the third till recently. Not disappointed at all, awesome 80s feel with the music and cheese.

I watched this a while back. I don't remember much except that Vincent Cassel is crazy in it.

So entertaining and well-realized. And the most compelling Bruce Banner/Hulk character ever.

Just saw it last night and I completely agree. I've always loved The Hulk but have never been fully satisfied with any of the big screen adaptations until now. I thought Captain America seemed a little underutilized for being such a central figure, but with that being my only gripe it's one of the best superhero films I've seen.

The Villain 05-16-2012 06:16 AM

The Innkeepers

Definitely a slow burn as most people have been saying but interesting throughout. I really liked the main characters and appreciated that West did something different with it instead of just having them be a married couple owning the Inn and having some rambunctious little kid running around causing trouble.

The ending though left me wanting more since there really wasn't any closure to the movie. It's fine to leave things answered but one thing i've found is that if you have your characters asking questions, the audience will too.

Still though it's a good movie and kinda freaky if you let yourself get into it.

"Dark Shadows" (2012)
-Johnny Depp

Plot: After almost 200 years of sleep, vampire Barnabas Collins reawakens in 1972 to battle the evil (but gorgeous) witch who cursed him, help his descendents rebuild their fortune, find his lost love and generally deal with the strange new world he now finds himself in.

Phantom's Review: First, let me say I love the original "Dark Shadows", been a fan for decades, so when I first heard that Depp and Burton were going to do a film version I got very excited I'm a fan of them and I like their style, but then I saw the first few previews and I saw a comedy not a Gothic Horror movie, but I went and saw it anyway and much to my surprise I loved it. The film does have some comedic moments, but they seem natural since they mostly deal with Barnabas trying to figure out his new world. There are some really decent BOO! scenes, great FX and the film really tries to keep the atmosphere and spirit (no pun intended) of the original show. The whole cast does a great job with their characters. My only main complaint is a late film reveal about the Carolyn character that really goes nowhere and the original "Dark Shadows" music is only barely hinted at in the soundtrack. Outside of that really enjoyed this film.

Ditto. I've only seen a few episodes of the old series, but with Tim Burton directing I wanted to see this one. The reviews haven't been great, but my guess is that horror fans will enjoy it more than the average reviewer...

The Crow.
First time in at least 7-8 years since I've watched it.
Great adaptation of the graphic novel, cool soundtrack.
IMO one of the better comic2films I've seen.
Likeable cast.
Fun movie.

I would like to stress something that I seem to have accidentally omitted from my original review. While I thoroughly enjoyed this film, I want to say that "Dark Shadows" 2012 is definitely NOT a carbon copy of the original series or movie. This is a different take on the familiar themes. Depp and Burton have taken the essence, the spirit (theirs that pun again) of the original show and put their own spin on it. Some characters are very different from the originals, most notably "Victoria Winters" and "Maggie Evans" and some characters remain true to form. This is a remake after all, and most remakes do some things differently. If you are a die hard purist of the original, you might not like this new take, but if your like me and can enjoy this film on it's own merits I think you'll enjoy it.

quite average, but theres allways something chilling about true storys, specially when the main character ended up killing himself in real life

Headhunters (2011)

A good, intense Norwegian thriller.

>>: B

Last Caress (2010)

A low budget French effort in homage to Giallo films...particularly Argento & Bava inspired. Pretty silly at times but a fun watch overall.

Night Vision (2011)

Good booby shows but quite an average thriller.

Just watched The Innkeepers and IMO, it is an eerie, haunting, funny, and a return to classic nail-biting horror. By allowing time for character development, the creation of atmosphere, and building of suspense, and by steering clear of gore and saving its big reveal until the end, the director Ti West has delivered a genuinely involving and disconcerting chiller. He has a distinctive, careful camera style. I liked the way the camera shot was held for an exquisitely long time, so that when the scares arrive they pack a jolt.

I may have just found a new favorite director.

The Ruins (2008).
Pretty gruesome horror here, good amount of tension.
Acting was...ech...
But yeah, it was at least interesting, with a fair few cringe inducing moments.

In that case watch The House Of The Devil. More gore and Santinism but his trademark atmosphere and camera work are all there.

I loved Cabin Fever and I loved The Innkeepers. I might give it a try anyway. You're probably right as most sequels do suck.

Cabin Fever 2 was great I enjoyed it more than the original. I don't get all the hate for it tbh.

A Gun for George: Quality short film from Matt Holness (Garth Marenghi's Dark Place). Dark comedy about a frustrated author of pulp fiction, dreaming of living life like the character in his book... The Reprisalizer. Well worth a watch, a beautiful pastiche of the 70s/80s vigilante genre.

It was boring & frustrating. When you made a film with horror/thriller elements at some part(s) then it's better to create the atmosphere or background for it. Most of the part it was like a boring Britt family/buddy drama; it was like they were bit reluctant to deal with the HORROR, so they failed to pinch it into the story properly, IMO. Fuck the spoiler, the thing is the "horror" part comes as a surprise package at the end and it didn't surprise me at all but instead it very much pissed me off. Cause, the main idea was actually nice & it easily could worked far more interestingly if they could come with a better approach to build & reveal the things in a simple but effective storyline. Overall, a pathetic time waster. I hated it.

The Villain 05-20-2012 09:54 AM

21 Jump Street

This was surprisingly funny and really good. Channing Tatum should do more comedies and stop dancing and doing chick flicks.
