Watch it. In the theater.

Preferably IMAX with Full Surround Sound.

Forget everything else.

Get swept off your feet.

Movie of the year, easily.

Unless Prometheus has other ideas.

Charles Band's Decadent Evil. Good kind vampire comedy:)

Very funny. I actually found myself laughing out loud a few times. Jason Segel is always good and i love Emily Blunt so i really liked it.

The Evil That Men Do

Great stuff enjoyed this one a lot more than when I first saw it years ago. I'm pretty fond of all the flicks Bronson did with J. Lee Thompson. The scene where Bronson
pretty much twists a dude's dick off in a bar after he harasses his lady friend
had me laughing my ass off.

National Lampoon's European Vacation

Always thought this was the weakest of the series and watching it again didn't change my mind.

Into the Abyss (2011)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...yss_poster.jpg

A heavy, haunting documentary that, in the hands of probably anyone other than Herzog, would have seemed amateurish and eye-rolling. But he documents with such a profound sense of curiosity and pathos with regard to humanity that his work is always fascinating. He's very clear on his feelings about capital punishment, but doesn't try to be tricky about those convictions. His subjectivity guides the film in a moving way, capturing the story, characters, and reverberations of an October 2001 triple-homicide.
Strongly recommended.

The Haunting Of Molly Hartley

You ever know something is gonna suck, but for whatever reason you watch it anyway? This is one of those instances.

Fan of all Thompson/Bronson stuff as well. 10 To Midnight remains my favorite.

Agreed, bad ass movie.

Mute Witness

Not bad. The first half was actually pretty suspenseful. The second half went in a strange direction considering how the beginning was but they didnt overdo it. I have to say though, those had to be the dumbest russian gangsters i've ever seen. It was like they were thwarting Home Alone villains.

COWBOYS & ALIENS--I love westerns and Aliens ain't so bad either. Fun to see James Bond & Indiana Jones share the same screen....good watch

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES--nice work by Andy Serkis...another good watch

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Cowboys & Aliens. It wasn't what I was expecting at all.

Still haven't seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Hopefully soon.....

"Q The Winged Serpent" (1982)
_David Carradine

Plot: IMDB
New York police are bemused by a spate of reports of a giant flying lizard that has been spotted around the rooftops of New York, which they assume to be bogus until the lizard starts to eat people. An out-of-work, ex-con piano player is the only person who knows the location of the monster's nest and is determined to turn the knowledge to his advantage, but will his gamble pay off or will he end up as lizard food?

Phantom's Review: I remember seeing this film in theaters back in the early '80's and thinking what a piece of crap. Well thirty years have passed and I got to see it again recently and "what do you know" ......it's still a piece of crap. Terrible acting, even from good actors, average plot and the title monster is rarely seen. Perfect for a bad movie night.

Dream House --- not much scare factor, but a few interesting twists. 6.9/10

"Death of a ghost hunter" 7/10

Starting out looking and sounding like a low budget ghost movie with unconvincing acting. Turned out.. it was.

But this flick actually had some genuinely creepy moments thanks to an effective soundtrack and a director who knew what he was doing.

Recommended to fans of ghost movies.

"The Pirates! Band Of Misfits" (2012)
--------Hugh Grant

Plot: IMDB
After years of humiliation and failed attempts to win the coveted Pirate of the Year Award, Pirate Captain and his oddball crew take on the cream of the pirating crop - Black Bellamy, Peg Leg Hastings and Cutlass Liz - in a race to pillage the most booty. They soon cross paths with lovelorn scientist Charles Darwin, who persuades the Captain that the crew's prized 'parrot', Polly, could be the answer to the 'untold riches' they are searching for. Their adventure takes them to Victorian London where they meet Darwin's sidekick 'man-panzee' Mister Bobo, and the notorious pirate-hating Queen Victoria herself. It soon unfolds that Darwin's motives for helping the crew are not what they seem, and the Queen has an evil hidden agenda of her own. The Pirate Captain must choose between basking in the glory of being crowned Pirate of the Year, or staying faithful to his trusted crew.

Phantom's Review: Wonderfully funny animated film from the folks that brought you "Chicken Run" and "Wallace And Gromitt". Well written and funny story, though it does get a little dark towards the end (sort of like "Toy Story 3") good voice acting and some truly well made animation. Lots of little sight gags fill the film and make it even more enjoyable. Go see it if your in the mood for fun.

The Italian Job

I really liked it. I liked how they were able to accomplish their heist's without using guns and killing people. It was good that the movie separated murderers and thieves. It's not that i mind that sort of action in a heist movie but it was good to see something different. The characters were all enjoyable even though i think Edward Norton fell kinda flat as a villain. He just came off as a spoiled child to me.

Angra 05-03-2012 04:08 AM

"Babycall" 5/10

A norweigan thriller starring Lisbeth Salander (the original).

Thought it was quite boring.

phantomstranger 05-03-2012 04:08 PM

"Dracula" (1974)
-Jack Palance

Plot: You know, if you don't know the plot of "Dracula" what are you doing at a horror site?

Phantom's Review: Well made, if not great version of the Bram Stoker classic. Jack Palance is perfectly cast as the count. If I remember right this was the first Dracula film to directly tie in the Vlad The Impaler legend with vampire story and Palance really does seem like an old warrior. Produced and directed by Dan Curtis, the film does occasionally feel like a large episode of "Dark Shadows"but it still is a worthwhile effort.

The Villain 05-03-2012 04:13 PM

Brake

I thought this was gonna be similar to Buried due to the somewhat similar plots but they are too completely different movies. Buried was more of a claustrophobic suspenseful horror movie while Brake was an action/thriller. It was very entertaining and kept me wanting to see how it was going to end.

I have to talk about the ending though...

SPOILERS:I thought the first ending where you find out that it was all a test to see if he would give up information was a good ending but slightly improbable. The happy ending kinda felt like a cop out but i thought it worked for the story.

Then the double twist happened and you find out that the whole thing was real and they were just trying one last ditch effort to get him to talk and you find out that his wife was in on it. Being a horror fan i can get behind an ending where the hero loses and the last shot of the movie with his wife killing him was pretty chilling but it just felt silly and unnecessary to me.
END OF SPOILERS

One last thing, why the hell did they call it Brake? Trunk would have made more sense. It would've been like if Buried had been called Sand. Sometimes i don't understand the naming process that goes into movies.

This sets the bar pretty high for comedy films this year. I wasn't expecting to be very good at all but this was great fun and had me laughing a lot.

Damn - I planned on watching it tonight with the Missus. I told her - 'I heard it was good'..

Now I have to say 'I heard it was good from that guy who on the internet who also liked Hot Tub Time Machine'...Fuck it I forgot that. I think I need to remember that I trust your judgement on everything except comedies..

You're not a smoker are you - that might explain it :-)

I was so looking forward to this til I heard how dissapointing it was - and the critics are right. Looks more like a rip off film rather than something by the same writer/director...It comes across as a remake with different victims that ignores everything that the original does right or trys to copy them bady (ie the music in it)...

Theres also a pretty pointless Chris Lee cameo in it..

Fascinating and entertaining but really sad. Definitely check it out if you have even a passing interest in outsider musicians because it's one of the better documentaries out there.

This was lame. The movie jumps along without trying to build up any tension or understandable story development. The main character jumps head first into the 11-11-11 theory way too quickly. The "scares" weren't scary at all and the ending was confusing and stupid. I don't know why they couldn't just keep it simple and have a movie about a demon or monster that is going to rise on 11-11-11. I understand that simple is not always good but it is if you do it right.

Just watched The Help. Absolutely loved it! Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis were spellbinding. Bryce Dallas Howard did a good job with her role, too. It was painful to watch at times, knowing these situations actually occurred back then.

chronicle, loved it. 8/10 well worth a watch.

Yesterday I watched an independent horror called "Chill" it was pretty good. It's based on H.P. Lovecrafrt's story so it had to be good!:D
