The new "Fright Night".
It was "ok", and that's about it. Nobody in the cast stood out at all, and it's none of their best work. The storyline was...just crap really... There was not one moment of tension or scariness about this. The way the vampire suddenly went on the attack against the whole family seemed forced as though they couldn't give him a better motivation. Also the "vampire mode" teeth looked REALLY fucking stupid. ...For a remake, at least it was different to the original, but, not in a good way. |
Green Lantern
it was ok....I like Ryan Reynolds....real affable kind of guy. CGI went from meh to pretty good. |

Watched Citizen X, an old HBO movie about the investigation and arrest of Andrei Chikatilo. Really well done and one of those movies where you really get pulled in to the frustrations of the protagonist.
|
Killer Instinct (2001) - slasher with kids locked in an asylum. Meanwhile Corbin Bernsen and Dee Wallace argue about stuff. An okay little movie, nothing especially good or bad about it.

Heard great things about this but couldnt seem to get too into it. Although Oldman was very good i think i was expecting more from it, Ill def be giving it another shot though. Anyone else kinda feel unimpressed with it.... |
The Broken.
I vaguely remember a similar tale, it might be an Asian superstition. But if you put a mirror in front and in back of you to create a whole bunch of reflections. The seventh or so reflection is a demon version of you. Anyway, this movie kind of explores that premise with the demons escaping. It's similar to an episode of the Twilight Zone that freaked me out when I was young. It had a lady waiting on a bus and a guy chasing his double. However, where The Broken goes wrong is that nothing is resolved. It feels like half of a movie. Or Invasion of the Body Snatchers without a plot. In that Twilight Zone episode the doubles were definitely up to something sinister. In The Broken they are just there. Still, a fairly good movie to watch for the overall mood and its star Lena Headey. |

Plus being Russian you might have a certain civic pride when it comes to Chikatilo. I know I get a strange sense of pleasure knowing that I'm from the same town as Gary Heidnik, and it's where the first US serial killer was executed. I also like David Berkowitz. There's a great book called the Ultimate Evil that shows how scary the son of sam murders actually are and ties them in to a satanic cult, charles Manson, Hollywood oroducers and lamont from Sanford and Son.. They tried making a movie about it called Son of Sam, but it was terrible, if not thee worst serial killer movie ever. |
I really don't get the serial killer worship that some people have...I know they always excuse it by saying 'but they ao interesting' etc etc but alot of people just glorify their crimes.
I really can't imagine anyone who has kids saying something like 'albert fish is nice too. ' - Its not the first thing I would say about a guy who rapes little children. |

Personally speaking, I've been against every war my country has ever been involved with (even when it wasn't trendy to feel that way), and I"m an animal lover. So any idea that I think serial killers or killing is "cool" is laughable. I dig the contrasts of life, and serial killers are the biggest contrast to who I am, so for that alone I'm fascinated. When I say a certain serial killer is my favorite, it has nothing to do with me liking that person, it has to do with being confounded by there actions. Also, Albert Fish never raped Grace Budd. He just butchered her and ate her. |
Watched "Chicago Massacre: Richard Speck". The movie was terrible, and poorly acted, but there's an actress in the movie (she plays the one girl who was captured by Richard Speck, and testified against him in court), who is so terrible that you almost have to keep watching.

Watched "The Machinist" just yesterday, and I completely loved it. The last horror movie I watched was "The Awakening", though. It's quite nice, I guess.

Deadly Blessing (1981)-Not seen this Wes Craven film before but I did enjoy it. I suppose it was pretty much put everything in it including the kitchen sink, it's experimental but part slasher, part mystery, part supernatural horror. A lot to take in but worth the effort. May be a bit flawed and could have been paced better but definitely recommended.

Shame - 8/10
What a powerful drama. There was a very uncomfortable atmosphere throughout; you know the kind you get in a movie when you feel something bad is building. Masterfully shot with not much in the way of story telling. It was a semi-pornographic piece of art that exists purely to embody the raw emotion of shame and how it affected the two protagonists. In the best way, it's a real thought provoker. I highly recommend it. One last thing; do you think that Steve McQueen (not the dead one, you smart ass!) had watched Irreversible at any point? |
Saw White Noise last night, not usually freaked out by paranormal movies but this one made me struggle to sleep afterwards. Tempted to watch the second but not sure if it'll be good, especially since Keaton isn't in it.

Salvage
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1297298/ nice thriller from the UK with a truly believable performance from the lead actress. |
watched the masters of horror d.a. coscerelli-directed adaptation of joe lansdale's incredible incident on and off a mountain road. i quite liked it. the narrative was nice--women surviving a psycho-killer in the woods while reflecting upon her relationship with her over-the-top survivalist husband. angus scrimm (of course) shows up, and the direction is taut, thoughtful, and merciless. the lead, bree turner, is excellent. she is tough as nails, and quick on her feat. really dug this.

Phase 7.
Argentine movie, pretty good. Starts off almost like Quarantine. Anyway, I recommend it, and so does most of Netflix since it's rated for like 5 stars. |

Inspired by the Most Controversial, Bizarre etc. list here on the forum, I decided to check out some I havent seen.
http://www.beyondhollywood.com/uploa...he-devil-2.jpg Art Of The Devil 2 I normally dont like a whole lot of japanese movies, just never keeps my interest. But this one had some crazy enough shit in it that kept me intrigued to watch the movie. Not bad, especially the lizards under the skin. 3/5 http://www.gorezone.net/dvdcrypt/pix...c/aumordum.jpg August Undergrounds Mordum There really has never been anything that I've watched where I actually wanted to erase my memory of watching. This movie is just straight up fucking crazy. Im pretty sure the people, or guy, that made this movie just set out to make the most disturbing movie he could possibly think of. And he definitely succeeded..I LOVE gore and just insane crazy shit, but this is a little beyond anything enjoyable for me, and I never thought id say that. |
Last of the Dogmen
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113617/ good idea.....some corny dialog almost killed it. Overall not too bad. |
just watched cujo, just read the book so i thought id watch the movie.had to get the vhs out for this.
was actually better than the book i thought, though the book did suck very bad |
Toy Soldiers (1991) http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...y_soldiers.jpgWell this movie is dated, cheesy and quite full of cliches. It is however one of the most entertaining flicks I've seen in a long time. Sean Astin leads a group of rebellious private school kids against a gang of Colombian terrorists who have taken their private school hostage. Put simply it's just a hell of a lot of fun to watch a group of trouble making teenagers fuck with Colombian terrorists. If that sounds appealing to you, I'd definitely check this one out. 7.5/10 Shotgun Stories (2007) http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...28/shotgun.jpg Shotgun Stories traces the rivalry of two groups of half-brothers in South Arkansas after the death of their father. Son, Boy and Kid were abandoned by their alcoholic father before he straightened his life out and started a new family. After his death a feud erupts between the well-treated sons the father loved and the set of sons that he abandoned and left to grow resentful and hateful. I liked this a film a lot. It's a slow burning quiet meditation on the nature of violence, family ties and family rivalries. 9/10 |
