LONDON (AP) — Edward Woodward, the star of films including Breaker Morant and The Wicker Man, died Monday. He was 79.

Woodward, who starred at The Equalizer on television, died in a hospital in Cornwall after an illness, said Janet Glass of the Eric Glass Ltd. agency in London.

He won an Emmy Award in 1990 for Remembering World War II and a Golden Globe in 1987 for The Equalizer, which ran for 88 episodes from 1985 to 1989 on the U.S. network CBS.

In a career that began in 1946 in a regional production of A Kiss for Cinderella, Woodward played roles in productions ranging from the popular British soap opera Eastenders to productions of Shakespeare, and at least 40 films for theater or television.

His last film appearances were in Hot Fuzz in 2007 and Congregation of Ghosts, now in post-production.

TV presenter, Paul O'Grady's dog, Buster put down aged 14 due to cancer. Buster won a award recently for best dog on TV.

bwind22 11-20-2009 03:02 PM

Is MovieLover12 someone's joke account or something?

A mob boss and a TV Presenter's dog? Wtf? A mob boss has nothing to do with the entertainment industry and who gives a crap about some noname's dog?

ferretchucker 11-20-2009 03:20 PM

I think he just doesn't get the point of it. And as much as I hate the man, Paul O'Grady is a pretty big tv presenter here in Britain.

EDIT: and the dogs a pretty big part of the show. Still...who cares?

For those of you who don't know who he was, he played Count Waldemar Daninsky in several Wolf-Man films of the early 70s, most of them in Spanish. He was one of the most hard-working filmmakers of our genre, often contributing a ton to his limited budget works. A true contributor to the popularity of horror back in the 70s.

Cancer took him. 75 years old. Died in Madrid.

Gene Barry, who starred in three hit TV series, Bat Masterson, Burke's Law and The Name of Game, died Wednesday in Los Angeles at age 90, his son, Fredric James Barry, said Thursday.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

In films, Barry had starred in the 1953 production of the War of the Worlds and appeared opposite Clark Gable in Soldier of Fortune in 1955. On stage, he received a Tony nomination in 1984 for his role as a gay night club owner in La Cage aux Folles.

Aw, that sucks. Bat Masterson was one of my faves as a kid, and I liked Burke's Law too. RIP Gene.

Dan O'Bannon 1946-2009

http://wpcontent.answers.com/wikiped...O%27Bannon.jpg

From Empire Online:

Quote:

Dan O'Bannon, the sci-fi and horror screenwriter behind some of the genres' most recognisable titles, has died in Los Angeles following a short illness. He was 63.

A USC graduate in the same year as John Carpenter, O'Bannon was instrumental in Carpenter's cracking (and crackpot) first feature Dark Star, serving as co-writer, FX supervisor, production designer and editor, and playing Sgt Pinback (who turns out not to be Sgt Pinback at all). O'Bannon is the one who chases the beachball alien all over the spaceship; an idea that would sort of resurface later...

O'Bannon did some FX work on Star Wars in 1977, but is best known for kickstarting a different franchise. While authorship of Alien as we know it today is down to a number of people, there's no question that O'Bannon's Star Beast screenplay set the ball rolling, and he brought many of his colleagues from Alejandro Jodorowsky's aborted Dune to the project. The rest is movie history.

He wrote Blue Thunder and Life Force, and had two cracks at Philip K Dick, adapting We Can Remember It For You Wholesale and Second Variety into Total Recall and Screamers. Some say his Moebius-illustrated Heavy Metal comic The Long Tomorrow was a big visual influence on Blade Runner.

His Soft Landing and B-17 segments of the 1981 Heavy Metal movie were well-received, And he directed twice, fronting the fondly-remembered George Romero knock-off/parody Return of the Living Dead in 1985, and The Resurrected in 1992: an adaptation of HP Lovecraft's The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.

His screenplays were often reworked, much to his chagrin (particularly Blue Thunder, which lost most of its politics) but his legacy is without doubt. Just like Pinback, he had something of value to contribute to this mission.
Owen Williams
RIP to the man who brought us some of our genre's most memorable moments. You will be missed.

crabapple 12-18-2009 09:09 AM

Definitely, Dan O'Bannon did some great and wonderful things, and approached his work with a passion. I am surprised to read about his passing. RIP Dan O'Bannon.

And Roy Disney, Jr. has also passed on. He was the clearest genetic link to the founders of the Disney company; his father, Roy Disney, Sr., was Walt Disney's main partner in the enterprise. RIP Roy Disney, Jr.

_____V_____ 12-18-2009 09:37 AM

R.I.P. indeed. Dan leaves behind a legacy.

Elvis_Christ 12-18-2009 03:38 PM

Thats really awful news I was a big fan of the man's work. RIP

Movie star Brittany Murphy is dead of a heart attack at 32.

She went into full cardiac arrest early Sunday and could not be revived, the Website TMZ reported.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department got a call from the home of Murphy's husband Simon Monjack about 8 a.m., fire officials told TMZ.

She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on arrival

Murphy starred in "8 Mile," and "Don't Say a Word."

The starlet became a household name among teens in 1995 as the sidekick in "Clueless," who went from awkward wall flower to snotty hottie.

A few years ago, she released the single "Faster Kill Pussycat," which became a dance club hit.

Her last big movie was "Sin City" in 2005.

Just heard about this and was gonna post it...

Jesus, she was young! What a shame...RIP Brittany.

missmacabre 12-20-2009 12:00 PM

Britney Murphey, known for her roles in Girl Interrupted and Sin City was declared dead this morning from a full cardiac arrest at age 32. Blows my mind how young people die. :(

MovieLover12 12-20-2009 01:43 PM

I didn't want to believe that such a beautiful actress could go so soon. Rest in Peace. :(

Elvis_Christ 12-20-2009 03:26 PM

Damn, thats a shock. 32 is way to young to go. RIP

cheebacheeba 12-20-2009 06:55 PM

That's too bad...while I wasn't a particular fan of her work, she was nice to look at and yeah...32...that's my favourite number incidentally, and rather young to die...though I have to say what I'm sure many are thinking, that some kind of drugs are *most likely* involved, husband attempting to stop an autopsy and all.
It was either that or the proper behaviour/procedures for her diabetes were'nt observed and followed.
Just can't think this would be natural causes...

fortunato 12-20-2009 07:52 PM

Yeah, fatal heart attack at 32? Something's not right.

neverending 12-20-2009 07:55 PM

I've heard before she had self-image problems, and did a lot of dieting, etc. That stuff can be hard on your heart.

fuglystick 12-20-2009 07:58 PM

She seemed like a genuinely nice person.
