COLOUR FROM THE DARK 2008

A modest, hard-working farmer, Pietro, watches his wife, sister-in-law and farm fall ruin to a mysterious "colour" loosened from the bottom of his well.

Very nice visuals.

chill

when you see a movie is written, directed, produced, edited and and about a million other jobs by the same guy you get a feeling no budget is what your about to watch, i can dig that, look at bad taste all those years ago and its not always a bad thing.....here this straight to bargain basement dvd rubbish was. terrible acting, fx, woeful editing and sceneing make for a truly dreadful movie. 1/10

still watched it al tho lol

Afflicted (2014)

Damn this was terrible, I could only withstand 20 minutes of the terrible annoying characters and had to turn it off.

Blood Runs Cold (2011)

I actually really enjoyed this one. Was a random watch on Amazon prime and there are plenty of flaws especially the inconsistent times of day but regardless it was a bit different and kept me interested.

Newlyweds go to her childhood cabin, she is found naked in the woods one night, since this incident, she falls deep into behavioral madness. Not to bad, I kinda new what happened by the sounds and images but it still kept my attention. This was a cool watch.

I liked it too, also have it 7/10. Not to spoil anything, but that kind of theme freaks me out a little.

What a Great Movie Night! 3 awesome movies in a row!!

Coherence (2013)

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps470932a5.jpg

This is a brilliant indie twisted sci-fi thriller that will keep you guessing & engaged to the characters & story as it progress every moment. Kind of reminded me of another great indie sci fi flick The Man from Earth (2007), just for the similar premise of a living room where the film mostly takes place but the story is actually evolving through with much greater & twisted thought provoking contents. In his very first feature film, director James Ward Byrkit truly did a wonderful job here with such limited setting to tell a remarkable sci-fi tale. Absolutely loved it. Emily Baldoni on the lead also got my attention for her stunning beauty, looking forward to see her more regularly in genre films in coming days.

Not sure whether you guys have seen it or not but I'm Highly recommending it! Specially like to hear the feedback from Chrono, NE, Angra, Villain, Straker & Ferox. If you loved Triangle, you'll love it too! ::cool::

The One I Love (2014)

A relationship drama gets cleverly twisted with 'Twilight Zone' treatment! Thanks to Chrono for the rec! Loved it too.

Shock Value (2014)

Didn't expect much from this low budget indie horror but it surprisingly turned out quite funny & entertaining!

hear no evil 2, borgman (dutch subtitled) and lets kill walts wife.....none of the three rated above a 5 with me

Oh and Spanish subtitled Witching and Bitching which was honestly entertaining

Agreed. This one is a really quality sci-fi. Largely improvised script, which works really well and the cast do a great job. The movie keeps you thinking and keeps you guessing throughout, but doesn't go too far into that territory of just becoming annoying and convoluted. A brilliant example of low budget film making.

I liked it a lot. Thought it was really well crafted and acted. The improvised dialog didn't feel lazy, like mumblecore often does, or awkward and unpolished, like some cinéma vérité can be. Although I'm not a huge fan of films where the majority of the "action" is not seen but rather delivered through exposition, in this case the story was engaging enough to work well in that format, and also it was a bit of a mystery, where the characters were unraveling the plot simultaneously with the viewers.

My couple beefs with the details are (**SPOILERS**):

1) It was a little too convenient that one of the partygoers had written a book (or a friend did?) that happened to explain what was happening with the comet. I think it would have been more credible if someone did some quick research on the internet, or maybe if a character had once read a book that might explain it.

2) I thought everyone was a little too quick to start believing the theory. Especially since only a couple of the partygoers had left the house to witness anything weird. I would expect a bit more skepticism or disagreement. However, I'm glad we didn't get the overly-resistant skeptic that always seems to be relied on to provide internal conflict/drama.

Those are fairly small nits though, and didn't harm the experience much. My biggest problem was that I just had trouble following towards the end, especially when we learn there are more than two versions of people. Afterwards, I had to do some reading on the internet to explain it, and found a really good, detailed explanation of the multiple versions of who was doing what. Although the explanation might have been accurate, it almost confused me even more. Maybe with a 2nd or 3rd watch it would be more clear to me. I didn't have this problem with other doppleganger-esque films, even those that are somewhat challenging, like The Double or Enemy.

I gave it 7/10, and it's somewhere in the middle of my 7's for 2014. Definitely recommended.

Ragnarok
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6c16e4ac.jpg

This was surprisingly good. It starts out like an Indiana Jones treasure hunt movie but turns into a full fledged monster movie by the end. The story is pretty good, similar type stories have been done but the viking and Ragnarok aspect gave it a nice creative touch. The characters are good as well as the acting so you actually care about the characters and in turn the story. The monsters really cool also. Its not going to end up on any best monster lists but still a cool monster for the movie. If you're looking for a cool foreign monster movie with a good story, check this out

"Whiplash" 9/10

A must-see for fans of drumming, music conservatory students and, of course, people who like movies about music.

Most of all this is a story about the battle between a determined drummer and his music teacher from hell.
This is Miles Teller's movie, but it's another guy who steals the show in each scene he has a dialogue. This guy:

J.K. Simmons plays the Gunnery Sgt. Hartman (Full Metal Jacket) of teachers and I'm certain this performance will earn him an Oscar nomination besides Steve Carell (Foxcatcher).

My only issue with this really well made movie, is that I would've liked it to be an hour longer which would have allowed the story to be bigger and continue from the fantastic climatic ending, and tell us what further happens to these two amazing characters instead of just letting the credits roll to what seems like the beginning of something big.

vampyd1977 01-06-2015 12:18 PM

the one i love

pretty sure i saw someone else mention this, a tale of a maried couple in trouble who go away to mend whats broken and their strange weekend away, not so much horror as a weird tale but very enjoyable 7.5/10

kite

a young girls parents are murdered by people traffickers in a futuristic landscape, quite silly in places but well paced and enjoyable for what it is. 7/10

Not bad but I don't like it as much as Angra does.
Metallica's Whiplash would've made this movie more interesting =P

horcrux2007 01-06-2015 07:28 PM

Into the Woods (2014)

A witch tasks a baker and his wife to find certain items from intertwining fairytales so that the curse on his family tree can be broken.

The music, acting, scenery, and pretty much everything else was great in this. It gets kinda dark halfway through, but the movie has quite a bit of good humor. It's the best musical film since Les Misérables.

8/10

^ I saw that last Thursday.

A great movie indeed. Iran has a great movie industry & they have made some awesome cinema over the years. In 80s & 90s we get to see couple of Iranian movies (dubbed in Bangla) in our national TV channel here as a weekly movie program "Movie of the Week". I've seen few but frustratingly can't recall the titles now. As far I can remember & know, they are pretty good with Political thriller & twisted human drama/thriller genre. In recent years, before this movie I have seen another one; called About Elly (2009)...a beautifully twisted psychological drama/thriller which I'd like to recommend you if you haven't seen yet.

The Skeleton Twins: Decent movie with some great acting performances. The story felt too clean and sanitised considering the subject matter, but the acting performances keep it feeling somewhat original and fresh. Overall its a solid dark comedy drama and well worth a watch and I'm sure some of you guys will enjoy it..... Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader are getting a ton of plaudits for their performances and they are both great, but its Luke Wilson's performance that really steals the show for me. His best work since Tenenbaums.

I couldn't help feeling sorry for Luke. That's a first. Not even in Vacancy did i feel sorry for him. But in Skeleton Twins he was just the nicest guy and he got treated like air by selfish Wiig. ::mad::

I got a bit tired of it towards the end.
Now if only someone made a decent parody of that movie with R. Lee Ermey (Gunnery Sgt. Hartman) as the teacher and heavy metal instead of jazz.

SATURDAY MORNING MYSTERY AKA SATURDAY MORNING MASSACRE 2012

A "Scooby-Doo" type gang of ghostbusters investigates a haunted mansion. There's two hip girls and two hip guys and a groovy dog. But then it gets real twisted and real dark and its not funny anymore.

Great little movie, imo.
