Enter the Ninja

I don't know why, I just couldn't turn it off. Not even the best early 80's cheesy martial arts flick not starring Asians.

tommywikkid 09-13-2011 09:31 PM

Insidious

I was kinda let down on this one. I kept hearing about how great it was from friends and I was actually kinda bored throughout the movie.

Black Sabbath

Great movie.

The Last Hard Men 1976

No...not a porno

a western with James Coburn and Charlton Heston

Coburn's a heartless escaped con out for revenge against Heston, who put him away. A pretty good watch

Halloween II and Rami's Night of the Living Dead

Had some chores to do and watched a couple movies while doing them.

Pretty average faie - I expected a little more from McKee. Didn't realise it was part of Ketchum's Offspring/Off Season series til I watched it.

The Burrowers (2008) B+

Interesting movie. Western/Horror hybrid flick.
Capable acting all around although Clancy Brown was a bit under used.
Nice special effects. A bit unpredictable as was the ending. It also touched on the
frailities and bigotries of human nature - inherent in all, but exacerbated by some.

I really liked it. Joseph Gordon Levitt is really underrated and his performance in this is great.

Inkheart - Silly children adventure, but the idea was cool. Tim Burton would've made it great if he was the director and if it wasn't aimed directly at children.

Gonna see Gran Torino tonight.

One of the greatest British horror films of all time, IMO. The real case was pretty sensational.

I actually liked this one despite hearing a lot of bad things about it. Fun little noir/comedy/horror flick.

Gran Torino.

Shit was amazin'. Terrific performance from Eastwood.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes 6/10- I was not impressed in the least.

Source Code 7/10- Typical mindless Hollywood drivel yet still entertaining.

Bad Teacher 7/10- Again, typical Hollywood plot but spiced up by the very sexy Cameron Diaz and a few good jokes.

"Priest" (2011)

Plot: IMDB

PRIEST, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller, is set in an alternate world -- one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece's boyfriend, a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess who possesses otherworldly fighting skills. Written by Screen Gems

Phantom's Review: My Recipe For "Priest":
One part: "The Matrix"
One part: "Mad Max"
A dash of : "Judge Dredd"
A pinch of :"Batman"
Add in some vampires (the scary kind, not the twinkly, sparkly kind)
and a huge spoonful of westerns (spaghetti flavor)
mix together and there you have it :"Priest"
Actually I thought this was a very entertaining action packed movie. Ive never had a chance to read the original comic book, so I didn't known what to expect, but the movie surprised me. It was fun and enjoyable.

It took itself waaaay too seriously to be cheesey. But it WAS dull.

Paul Bettany should never be allowed any leading roles. Ever. He just doesn't have enough carisma.

"Last Train From Gun Hill " (1959)
-Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn

Plot: IMDB

The wife of marshal Matt Morgan is raped and murdered. The killers leave behind a distinctive saddle, that Morgan recognises as belonging to his old friend Craig Belden, now cattle baron in the town of Gun Hill. Belden is sympathetic, until it transpires that one of the murderers is his own son Rick, whom he refuses to hand over. Morgan is determined to capture Rick and take him away by the 9.00 train; but he is trapped in the town alone, with Belden and all his men now looking to kill him.

Phantom's Review: Excellent western drama. Kirk Douglas is intense as the Marshall hunting his wife's killer and Quinn is superb as the man protecting his son, but sympathetic to his old friend. Light on action, but big on suspense, character and some great acting. . This is one of the greats

The Villain 09-21-2011 08:25 PM

Red State
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/..._V1_SY317_.jpg

Well this was....different.

It definitely held my interest and by the end i'd say i liked it but i really hated the villains in the movie. I've always despised the evil religious murderer character who thinks they're doing God's will especially in this movie. Cooper was beyond annoying. The way he talked, that stupid little dance and everything he said made me want to punch myself out of frustration. I never thought i would see a more annoying villain then Mrs. Carmody from The Mist but there you go.

Funny thing is, even though i love villains (obviously) you're not supposed to. The point of a villain is to make you hate them and root for them to lose so in that aspect it worked. Although i don't think the intent should be to annoy the audience so much that they turn it off.

Either way, i liked it but didn't love it.
