Cool thriller.
The actor in the leading role was great and I hope to see more of him.
Apparently he's English and was on Downton Abbey.

Spoilers
I was hoping for more info on the military experiment. Seemed a bit rushed too me.
The ending was quite stupid.
Fact that the guy was still walking suddenly gave the movie a horror/slasher vibe. Like all of a sudden he's some kind of monster psycho like Michael Myers.
And when he walks out he makes eye contact with the girl, she just says "What the fuck?" and the movie ends. That was just dumb.

I forgot to mention Tusk.

Wow, I didn't see that coming!! My husband, my son, and I were all like wtf did we just watch??!! The thing is, I liked it. It was weird and it was def something I have never seen before. It's something that I would probably only watch once though....::big grin::

I watched that this week too. Thought it was great. Very extemporanious style of acting -- almost like mumblecore. Good sci-fi concept too.

I really liked it too. It's a very divisive film -- a lot of things to hate, whether it be unevenness in tone, buffoonery by Depp's character which some might consider Kevin Smith sabotaging his own film, the sheer dislikability of Long's character, or of course, the whole walrus thing, which some viewers -- especially fans of the Clerks variety -- might not be able to stomach. For me, the whole spectacle is a guilty pleasure, and I actually currently have it ranked as my #3 favorite horror-ish film of 2014.

one of the most enjoyable ghost storys ive seen in a while, genuinely creepy, jumps and a wee bit of gore thrown in. 8.5/10

I don't do well with 'wording' and you captured my thoughts on this film. It's like you want to hate it but you can't for whatever reason; as a huge Kevin Smith fan, this was something out of his realm but he captured something that people will talk about for a long time. It was rather twisted but for many horror fans, it has the 'wtf am I watching but enjoying' response. Did you listen to the recorded conversation playing through the credits? It was Kevin Smith and some other guy discussing the film, it was rather amusing. I still can't get that image of the Justin Long walrus out of my head!!

"Roseville" 8/10

A Bulgarian Evil Dead for mature people. VERY mature people. I mean, 2 hours long, contains zero humor and it's slow from beginning to end, and the ending wasn't very satishfying. That being said, the production was high class. Amazing camera work, settings and score, solid acting and an interesting story helped holding my interest throughout.

The Haunting 1999
6/10

Three subjects (Catherine Zeta-Jones, Owen Wilson and Lili Taylor) are recruited for a sleep study to a huge scary mansion (HIll House) when really the professor (Liam Neeson) is studying fear. Haunty scariness ensues.

This film was almost universally strongly condemned. It's a loose remake of the popular 1963 film, which I think is a large part of it's poor reviews. I think most are overly harsh.

This film really shows off the spectacularly beautiful & enormous insides of Harlaxton Manor (Hill House), which the original mostly did not. The use of, & cinematography of the mansion is stunning. The characters are likeable (& it's always nice to see the breath-taking Catherine Zeta-Jones), but of little depth.

The first 3/4ths of the films play close to The Haunting original in general scene by scene 'haunting' fare entertainment, except the 1963 had a much better flair of subtlety. The ending quarter of the film inflicts a damaging simple, bland, awkward, SFX-heavy resolution. I wasn't satisfied with the 1963's puzzling ending, but this one was worse... for adults.

If you like beautiful interiors, and effective use thereof, and 'haunting' SFX, I think you'll enjoy the 1999 version. It's not very scary, but it is engrossing & pleasant mild entertainment.

Odd Thomas
6.5/10

"n a California desert town, a short-order cook with clairvoyant abilities encounters a mysterious man with a link to dark, threatening forces."

Reminded me The Frighteners a great deal. If you loved Frighteners (I didn't), I'm sure you'll like Odd Thomas. It hit me as a 'Supernatural' TV episode meets a '24' TV episode; and I enjoyed some of those eps much than this. Technically sound, nice SFX, good acting, well paced, & the unfolding mystery & events are mildly entertaining.

Personally, I think I found the film a bit too old-hat... contrasted with say, "John Dies at the End" which was much more cerebral, original, funny, twisty, etc. After the first 15 mins, the rest of it was a repeat of that; of which I was quite familiar. I didn't find it suspenseful, & found myself waiting for the end, which played as expected. There's nothing wrong with it, per say, just too standard for me.

"Danika" 8/10

A really good horror/mystery that was similar to "Premonition" (2007), but just much more of a psychological mindfuck.

Oh yea, might be worth mentioning it's made by Ariel Vromen, the director of "The Iceman" and the upcoming "Criminal", which I'm really looking forward to.

So after all the good reviews i've heard about this i decided to give it a second chance and i have to admit it's not as bad as i originally thought. It's certainly not the cinematic masterpiece that everyone's making it out to be but its not terrible. The plot wasn't bad but it wasn't all that original nor was its execution. I still had a hard time connecting to the characters mostly due to Karen Gillans terrible acting. The little girl who played her younger self was a lot better. Gillan seemed so wooden and had hardly any emotion throughout the whole movie. I didn't find it scary at all but i do see how someone else might. It really could've been a lot better but it is much better than some of the other horror movies i've seen this year. I also liked the ending.

Vila Roza aka Roseville (2013)

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps5fae4c70.jpg

Great set up & atmosphere like any good European horror movie offer nowadays but didn't deliver creepy stuffs as much I expected. Moreover, it was like an underdeveloped plot that seems quite interesting at the beginning but got lost at the end, as if they weren't sure what to do or where to go with it after the initial, promising build up.

Ever see the 1975 version Legend of Lissie Borden starring Elisabeth Montgomery? Has really good reviews.

Nineteen hits to the back of the head on the stepmom, and then a 1/2 hr later, when father returns home, struck 10 times in the head, with both Lizzie & maid in the house, both left unharmed, nothing stolen. Seems extremey personal, without any other hateful personal associations to be found.

Have any ideas other than Lizzie?

Sounds cool. I saw a street graffiti doc on netflix about 8 years ago, a few infamous masked artists allowing filming of their work. One British dude who reconstructed a phone both into a surreal form. And ended with a follower street artist holding an art exhibit sealing quite a bit of pseudo-worhol art. I can't remember the name now.
