"Batman: Under The Red Hood" (2010)

Plot: IMDB

Batman faces his ultimate challenge as the mysterious Red Hood takes Gotham City by firestorm. One part vigilante, one part criminal kingpin, Red Hood begins cleaning up Gotham with the efficiency of Batman, but without following the same ethical code. Killing is an option. And when the Joker falls in the balance between the two, hard truths are revealed and old wounds are reopened.

Phantom's Review: I've been a "Batman" fan/collector for about 45 years now and while I do enjoy most of the live action films I have to admit I think the Direct to DVD animated films are probably closest to the actual character. Based on a comic book story arc, this film is really well made with a good story and some fine voice acting. A very enjoyable film.

One of the best, undoubtedly since Return of Joker! Brilliant story.

Source Code (2011)

A pretty good Sci-Fi thriller from the director of Moon. Specially liked the ending twist...simple but effectively done.

Hadn't heard of Phase 7 will grab it and give it a watch seeing as it looks interesting. Watching Source Code tonight heard mixed reviews on that one but I thought it looked good.

Quite bad but I enjoyed it. Feel like a killer car flick marathon now!

Godmonster of Indian Flats (1973)

I had never heard of this turkey before. It's currently on demand in the Cult section on Comcast. One of the absolute worst, but it's hilarious. The monster is a mutated, deformed sheep monster that stands upright and it's so rediculous looking it will evoke howls of laughter. It's a bit of a sleeper up until the last 20 minutes, but if you stick it out you won't regret it.

Despare 07-13-2011 11:07 AM

Watched the last episode of Masterpiece Mystery! Sherlock... I wish it would be an ongoing series though, I LOVE the actors and the twists on the classic stories. If anybody hasn't watched it, there's 3 "episodes" but they're all little movies, 90 minutes long, and they're fantastic. Also finished The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, watched them all together and it really felt like this show was an animated version of what we might see from the movie.

Was meant to see Session 9 some min's ago, but the quality was horrible, so decided not too. :(

Overrated IMO but a good movie

ABjerg 07-13-2011 03:48 PM

Oh well, it was recommended, so I just thought I would see it. ;)

Then give me a movie biatch!!

True Grit

missing the Coen brothers quirky flair but still an excellent western.

Jeff Bridges made Rooster his own.

"A Day Of Fury" (1956)
-Dale Robertson

Plot: IMDB
While on a manhunt the Marshal is saved by a passing gunslinger named Jagade. It is a time when law is coming to the west and when the gunslinger shows up in the Marshals' town the Marshal is caught between the town citezens fears and the debt he owes the gunslinger. The situation is further complicated by a previous relationship between the Marshal's fiancée and Jagade.

Phantom' Review: What should have been a standard "B" movie, surprisingly turns out to be a very well made film. The action is minimal, but the story, writing and acting are quite good. A treat that I wasn't expecting.

Ironclad

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...0/Ironclad.jpg

Some nice gory fight scenes including
a great scene with a dude beating another guy to death with a severed arm haha
but all up this was fairly average and I found it to drag towards the end.

Staunton Hill

Everything in this film has been done before and a lot better. Nice practical effects however and for a low budget production it was fairly well put together apart from some cringe worthy acting towards the end.

Zombies Of Mass Destruction

Better than expected. Some quite funny satire of the current paranoid political climate and the moral majority. Not as sharp or original as Tucker & Dale vs Evil or Fido but still not a bad watch and a solid independent production.

It took me awhile to get into this and at first the loud music was abrasive and annoying. But as the movie got going i got really interested and the music just added to the intensity. By the end i found it exciting and creepy.

Really good watch. Great introduction to the man's work if your unfamiliar and essential to those who are a fan. I didn't realize he was only 32 when he died he seemed older regardless he was taken from us too soon.

"Devil" (2010)
Plot: IMDB
In Philadelphia, Detective Bowden is still grieving for his wife and son, killed in a hit-and-run five years ago. When someone jumps from a skyscraper onto a truck, Bowden is sent to investigate. Meanwhile, five strangers are trapped in an elevator in the building where the jumper committed suicide. The communication radio in the elevator is broken but the guards, Lustig and Ramirez, observe the individuals via CCTV as events unfold. Tensions run high among those trapped, so Lustig calls the police and Detective Bowden assumes the case. Without being able to contact the individuals, he tries to work out who they are, but he can only account for four of them. Time is running out for the occupants of the elevator, as Bowden realizes he has to get them out quickly.

Phantom's Review: Much to my shock and surprise, this turned out to be a very effective thriller. When I first heard this film, it's plot and The fact that it "Came From The Mind Of M.Night Shyamalan" I pretty much skipped it. But thankfully cable TV allows you to catch up with certain films and I'm glad about that. No major FX, just good acting ,an interesting story and some nice suspense.

ABjerg 07-17-2011 02:31 AM

Saw Insidious yesterday - I liked the idea of it, the old-school-feel, the special bagground music and all.
But I felt like it missed somethin' when it was over. [I loved all the references to other James Wan movies, like the Saw-doll on the black board and JW's name. :)]

Entertaining but i only laughed out loud during one part. I thought they would focus more on the bosses but after the initial introductions there were only a few small parts that showed their horribleness. Still it was a fun, mindless kind of movie.

Which did you think was best? Personally i really liked Warzone. It was darker then the others and had the best villain.

So even though i have a long list of movies to watch that i haven't seen i decided to watch one i've seen multiple times.

I love this movie. It terrified me as a kid and gave me nightmares and i always treasure the horror movies that did that. Best Alien movie hands down.

KaydenTheron92 07-19-2011 12:23 AM

I watched Invictus last night, not really a horror movie but still a good film, lol - then again, there is something scary about Matt Damon talking with a South African accent :p

Fearonsarms 07-19-2011 01:15 AM

I think the "Matt Damon" in Team America:World Police is so realistic its scary.
