"Night of the Demons"...hmmmmm ;)
Great atmosphere...weak...I mean...WEAK dialogue. What did I expect though, really? ;)

filmmaker2 06-13-2005 06:53 PM

"Star Wars" (1977) Basically the original version, but with the "A New Hope" crawl tacked on the beginning.

I have not seen the film without that "New Hope" title, I think, since it was in the theatres, like, way back when.

The freaking movie still works SURPRISINGLY well. The visual effects still look fantastic.

bloodrayne 06-13-2005 08:38 PM

The new Star Wars movie (cuz Dustin and Shane wanted to see it)

And...Resident Evil...again...

I dunno, man...you sure it wasn't ALWAYS there?

Last film I watched through was a pretty funny, weird quirky kinda Australian film starring the muscian Ben Lee, called
"The rage in Placid Lake". Great movie...makes me laugh with its weirdness.

urgeok 06-14-2005 03:16 AM

they didnt put 'a new hope' on the cover .. at least not my laserdiscs..

A mixed brew indeed.......

"Under Siege"
"Naked Poison" - Rather lacklustre CAT III goings on.
"The Undefeated" - Fun Wayne flick with a great score.

Yep that's the one. Really terrible. I loved these gang movies as a kid but most of them are terrible. This was no Class Of 1984 like I was expecting.

There are many more than those...But, you get the picture...

Trust me...There isn't ANYTHING even slightly related to horror (and just about everything else) that hasn't been discussed HERE...

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1932)

Not very faithful to the book, (obviosly, no movie version of this story is...) but actually a damn good movie. It's on TCM a lot, I suggest it. Short, satisfying film.

jenna26 06-14-2005 09:50 PM

Closer. The scariest movie I have seen all year. :D

Great film, but not a single, sympathetic character, in my opinion (well I did feel a bit for Portman's character because she was so young and just so sad). I pray that I never become quite that cynical about love and sex....lol....I guess it was a little too realistic for me. :(

The_Return 06-15-2005 05:12 AM

Watched The Fly [1986] lagain last night...damn I love that movie!

movies like that are hard to watch .. i appreciate them but they ara a challenge - spending 90 - 120 minutes with a group of people you cant identify with - or even begin to like ..

i've seen a few like that - cant think of any off the top of my head
(early Warhol films maybe)

you can appreciate the film being well crafted - but it's like real life - no-one sane wants to surround themselves with unpleasant people for any amount of time ..

Elvis_Christ 06-15-2005 05:52 AM

Maniac Cop

........made me think.

Thats good news...but Im not big on special features. Ill probably just stick with the single disc set with both of the 80's Flys for now:)

Anyway, I just watched "The Assination of Richard Nixon". Despite having heared great things about him, this is the 1st movie Ive seen with Sean Penn. And he was amazing, absolutly incredible, as Sam Bicke. The whole cast was awesome, but Penn was certainly the shining star. This was a great movie, I highly reccomend it.

I agree with you and Jenna completely. I went to the theatre to see it, and was completely shocked to find out that it WASN'T a love story ;) I don't know, maybe it was just me...but from the trailer's that I saw that's what I thought it was going to be.

Anyway, about 20 people walked out while I was there. I'm not sure if it was from some of the language or just b/c they were so bored, etc. To be honest, I didn't think there was a need for all of the swearing. I felt like most of it was just done to "shock" the audience...it didn't really have a purpose. (and I'm not a prude) ;)

I just couldn't relate to any of the charachters either. They all got what they deserved, really. Also, I didn't understand how the husband of the charachter Julia Roberts played could get so angry at her for cheating on him, when he readily admitted HE cheated while on a business trip! ;) It was like...double standard much?

Anyway, before *I* bore you to tears, I'll shut up. :D
