Check out Cube 2. It's actually not that bad, just not as great as the first one.

I've only played the first one but really didnt like the movie. Is the movie better if you've played the other games?

Yeah because there are many characters, monsters, etc. from the games in it such as the much loved pyramid head.

Guess i'll have to play the other games and give it another view then.

hammerfan 06-24-2011 11:39 AM

Just my two cents: I've never played any of the games and I thoroughly enjoyed Silent Hill.

Just me then i guess

I just found a lot of the characters to be annoying. There's lots of movies that i didnt like, then rewatched and decided i did like it so i guess i'll have to check this one out again either way.

If you can, try to find a fanedit called The Spence Edit. It's not a perfectly executed edit, but it is far superior to the original. Mainly he took out most anything not directly pertinent to Rose. Which effectively kills off the whole plotline of her husband searching for her. It makes for a far tighter movie overall.

I'm not really one for fan edits but thanks anyway.

I didn't like it as much as others in the audience did. Carrey seemed fatigued and showed very little of his now-famous "energy". There were sparks of his old self, but they were spread out. As for the penguins, they stole the scenes every time they came in. Clark Gregg, Angela Lansbury and Jeffrey Tambor lent good support, but the film missed that starry injection which Carrey usually provides.

* * ½

siorai 06-24-2011 10:39 PM

Cropsey:

It would have been so much more interesting without all the Cropsey crap. Andre Rand's story was quite interesting. The Cropsey nonsense just felt tacked on in an amateurish way to make the documentary that much more spooky.

The One-Armed Swordsman (1967)

Such a cool, fun movie.

cheebacheeba 06-25-2011 11:33 AM

The adjustment bereau.

It was "ok". Some interesting concepts but in all honest the characters were hard to bother about...Damon seemed a bit flat in this one...it kept me watching, but at no point did I feel as though it were either exciting or all that atmospheric.

I liked the story enough, though I thought that the film was confused as to whether or not it was sci-fi or drama, rather than blending the two together all that well.

roshiq 06-25-2011 11:40 AM

The Mothman Prophecies & Silent Hill both are great films, love them both.

A moderately decent horror flick from Netherlands with a typical story but kinda liked the ending.

Agreed. Loved it. Incredibly creepy and atmospheric... And if you're a cryptozoology nut, the movie is especially interesting. Makes me want to see it again...

I thought Cube 2 was actually a good watch if you like the cube series... Like *good* sequels it built off of the first one (introducing the concept of the hypercube). The acting and script are a bit weak, but I went into it expecting it to be terrible... And I actually enjoyed it.

Silent Hill was great... Loved the direction, make up, and art design. Definitely has some creepy moments... I thought the end was weak, but it was an enjoyable enough journey getting there that I didn't really mind.

The beginning was boring, badly written and acted. It went on a little too long but established the two main characters well enough. They used a strange camera style that didnt make any sense at parts as it would show footage of the girls talking on their phones to each other but showed their faces as if they carried their computers around everywhere so they could skype on the go. Also im pretty sure skype doesnt save your conversations, if they do im not using skype anymore.

The last 20 minutes or so is when everything actually happened and due to some realistic acting, there were parts that were slightly disturbing. Nothing that will stick with me though.

Could've been better without the unrealistic recorded coversations and the lame fake news stories. Not terrible but not really good either. Comes across as more of a public awareness video for internet safety then it does a movie until the end when it goes all torture porn.

Take Me Home Tonight

I wasn't expecting much from this one but was pleasantly surprised. The best comedy I've seen so far this year. Great mix of laughs/drama (so many comedies fail at this but this flick nailed it) with a likeable cast. Might be a bit to subtle for those looking for dick and fart jokes but I thought this was solid.

The Company Men

I got bored and couldn't care less where the story was heading so I tuned out. Might try to watch it again sometime not so late at night.

No Strings Attached

Utter fucking SHIT. Ashton Kutcher must be the most typecasted actor working today (well aside from Danny Dyer). Funny Mothman Prophecies got mentioned it's the only thing I've liked with him in it. Ivan Reitman has put out some great stuff over the years but this isn't one of his better efforts. Dull, overlong and not very funny.

Not that funny. Kutcher was in The Butterfly Effect..

Dead End
a riot all the way through, wasnt sure if it was intentionally funny or not, but good god it was bad.

more of the same...if you liked the first you will like this one.

Last horror film seen

The last horror film I watched was Dario Argento's "Mother of Tears" which I really enjoyed. I understand some of the criticisms others have made of the film but Argento is always fun and this film is no exception. I especially like the casting of the actresses from some of his past films and Udo Kier from "Suspiria".

leezuki 06-27-2011 02:47 PM

the last movie i watched was rammbock a german zombie movie only hour long was ok but i thought it could have been better but it had good ideas.

I like the first one better. The second one was good. It was darker and added more onto the story but i think at the time Hatchet came out, i needed a good new horror movie which i hadnt seen in awhile. Hatchet gave me that and it actually lived up to my expectations so it got bonus points for that. I wasnt looking for as much going into the second one i guess.

Although i did love the recasting of Danielle Harris. Love that chick. ;)

Elvis_Christ 06-27-2011 05:08 PM

I was really excited about the original but it was really disappointing to me. It was just straight up dumb and all the humor just didn't work for me. It just didn't deliver what it promised IMO but each to their own.

Danielle Harris rules. A true modern Scream Queen if ever there was one.

I get that, the humor bothered me too. That's why my brother didnt like it either. In that aspect i can understand why you like the second one.

Danielle Harris is amazing and like you said a true Scream Queen in an era severely lacking in such. Now i think i'm gonna have to go watch the Halloween Remake. She saved that thing for me. ;)

Nikutai no mon (Gate of Flesh) (1964)

An absolutely incredible film; a perfect combination of pulp drama, historical comment, and wild stylization. Probably my favorite Suzuki, which is saying a lot.

Well, that's one of the great things about this place. Interesting movies is being mentioned all the time that i've never heard of. I just can't keep up at the moment.

Vanishing on 7th Street

would have worked better as a short in an anthology. Hayden Christensen must have gone to the Michael Pare school of acting....not very exciting.

Some tension with a bit of atmosphere but as stated above....dragged on too long with NO explanation.

Yeah, in retrospect I totally agree. Check the date on that post, long time ago. Still love Halloween II though...might not be as good as the original, but still miles ahead of most of the other sequels.

cheebacheeba 06-28-2011 10:26 AM

...Since, and only since, we're seeing the third one next week...
Transformers.
Not *all that* bad, but lacks the essential feel of the franchise, really it's something I don't think should ever have been bought out of the cartoon world and upon this viewing I still think so.
It's "ok". The fight scenes were pretty jumbled though.
