The Haunting Of Winchester House-This was a fair film-not original or really anything new but to its credit it did keep me hooked. Fine if you like haunted house films.

Agree with Chrono, the last third turned out kinda lame in compare to a decent build up at the beginning & through the midway of the film, specially just when the father begins his trip to "The Further" it’s started to become a mediocre scary episode from a Horror TV show. I think it'd be better if they could leave the demon as a dark figure (instead of giving it a kinda funny look & avoid those activity in its chamber) like in that particular dream of the grandma. Liked the little (very predictable) twist at the end but I think Mr. Wan could show it in a more frightening way.

It was on TV last night and there was nothing else on that interested me.

Yeah, I refuse to watch Green Hornet. I used to watch the TV show - with Bruce Lee as Kato - when I was a kid.

Mark Wahlberg redeemed himself after The Happening with this one.

and Christian Bale was awesome in it.

I've talked to quite a few people that have been impressed with this film. I think I'll add it to the queue.

"Villa Rides" (1968)
-Yul Brynner. Robert Mitchum, Charles Bronson

Plot: IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063775/)

Pulled into the Mexican Revolution by his own greed, Texas gunrunner & pilot Lee Arnold joins bandit-turned-patriot Pancho Villa & his band of dedicated men in a march across Mexico battling the Colorados & stealing women's hearts as they go. But each has a nemesis among his friends: Arnold is tormented by Fierro, Villa's right-hand-man; and Villa must face possible betrayal by his own president's naiveté.

Phantom's Review: Entertaining, if a bit historically inaccurate adventure movie. Good acting and plenty of action make this worth watching.

How can so little happen for so long??

After 50 minutes nothing of importance to the story had yet happen.

Not a bad or boring watch. Just not a very good story. Always enjoy Timothy Olyphant tho.

Season of the Witch - 6/10

Lively horror/fantasy adventure which is let down by the final 20 mins. However, Cage and Perlman are always going to be very watchable and Stephen Graham is destined for big things. Check out This Is England if you like him in Boardwalk Empire

Murder by Decree (1979) starring Christopher Plummer as Sherlock Holmes and James Mason as Dr. Watson. Excellent flick with Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson chasing Jack the Ripper.

Paul

It's not as good as Pegg and Frosts first to outings, but still has plenty of laughs and charm. And it's a pretty clever movie all up. I'm looking forwad to these guys working together more hopefully.

7.5/10

I'm still here

This was rather anoying, to long and just really didn't go anywhere. I guess the fact you know it's all a load of shit doesn't help with the entertainment aspect either.

Thanks to NE for the rec. It was a fun viewing. I saw the American version/remake: Down aka The Shaft (which was made by the same director but that was a lengthy-fun-mess of a film starring Naomi Watts:o) years ago on a TV Channel.

No please studios DO NOT REMAKE dead and buried please it is an amazing film and there is no way it can be topped!

Dark Corners (2006) I thoroughly enjoyed this. Kudos to them for making a film that is different and stands out from the crowd. Sadly such a complex and non linear film will not appeal to everyone as you have to fit in the pieces for yourself (clue think why it is called Dark Corners). This is one to think about and enjoy understanding all its multi layeredness.

Bad Biology (2008)This is made by the same director who made Basket Case and Brain Damage. So if you loved those films you will love this. Be aware though that this is fully in the realm of fantasy and comedy so you don't take it too seriously. It is silly even ridiculous at times but nevertheless I was glued to my seat. Not for everyone but if you're a fan of the aforementioned films you will love it.

An ok documentary, I guess for a lot of people it would be quite eye opening, some of the cinematography was quite good exposes things in a post apocalyptic fashion. But overall it didn't quite go far enough for me. I wanted somthing bigger to be exposed.

Mother's Day (2010)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...ersDay2010.jpg

Where do I start? Mmmm....let's begin with the idea/plot behind Darren Lynn Bousman's 2010 film Mother's Day...which is first of all, not a straight remake of Charles Kaufman's 1980 cult favorite Mother's Day. Bousman & his Co. what did here is sometimes what we can regard as "re-imagining" an idea or plot. The premise and even the characters are almost significantly different here as the redneck family in the woods replaced by an extended family of criminals under the influence of a psycho-Mom and instead of having just 2 boys, this time mommy dearest got three sons and a daughter!
So it all started when after a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers on the run from the law head for home, not knowing that their mother has already been evicted from the house. The new owners and their guests, gathered for an ill-timed birthday party, become the brothers' accidental hostages. As one of the brothers is already wounded; one of the hostages, a doctor, he is forced to treat him. And later the brothers' mother, the cold blooded gang leader, and their sister arrive.
The way Bousman's version quickly set off to unfold the whole scenario I really started to appreciate & like the film as it progress with good pace & violence. But then, probably after the first-third or half, to make more than an 1 & half hour long film out of a hardly 60 minute story line, it really becomes an excuse to pit the hostages against one another. Forcing them to fight amongst themselves under imposed scenarios along the lines like "we will kill you both unless one of you kills the other first" not only grows tedious within the confines of the film, but it reminds that even when Mr. Bousman already left the SAW franchise, the tired Jigsaw twisty-tricks are still, intentionally or not, pretty much alive on his mind with the same old question..."what would you do or how far you would go to survive?"
Thus, although having a fine premise & cast, it becomes bit annoying in few funny & stupid moments. And last but not the least, the ending! And that was the major disappointment.

The interesting thing I noticed from a poster of this film is that how much exaggeratedly different popular horror movie sites is trying to help in its promotional campaign.

Overall, only considering the gore, violence & the pace of the film it was fairly entertaining. Worth a watch.

La Casa Muda aka The Silent House (2010)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...ilentHouse.jpg

I have no idea about how much Uruguay has been involved in the genre film making but as my first horror film from Uruguay I'm here pretty impressed. The Silent House comes with a spooky-haunted house cum psychological horror story that (as we all already know) it was shot in one single continuous take without cuts like the Colombian drama-thriller PVC-1 (2007). Though it takes its time to build up the tension & help to understand its viewers what's actually going on but in the midway of the film you'll find some decent sudden creepy encounters. I'm not actually sure about the others who may not find it that much interesting but overall I think it's a pretty good effort from Uruguay.

Babysitter Wanted

Fairly surprised by this one. Felt like the same old run of the mill slasher but had a pretty good twist mid way through and kept a descent amount of tension and terror from that point on. Suggest viewing it without any previous reviews or extensive knowledge of the plot. The surprise is what makes this one unique.
