The Children Are Watching Us (1944)
http://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/mov/video/i.../95/254795.jpg From the director of The Bicycle Thief, this is another heart wrenching story of a little boy named Prico as his family coming apart because of the mother's love affair with another man. While the husband and wife are perfectly portrayed, but the film belongs to that child actor who played the five-year-old Prico. That kid delivered a marvelous & touching performance all through the movie, and specially alone responsible for the almost a tear jerking ending. >>: A DayLight (2009) http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/6830/daylight.jpg >>: F The Experiment (2010) http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/6986/experiment1s.jpg And as usually the original remains far better. >>: C+ Kirot aka The Assassin Next Door (2009) http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/560/kiroto.jpg >>: B- |

Just watched "Legion" on PPV and I guess it was worth the 5 bucks, barely. Predictable story line and cheesy gun effects but that's par for the course these days. The fight scenes were also too jumpy. Roger Ebert quite rightly complains about this new trend in action movies -- quick cuts of slamming and punching but no continuity so that you can "track" the action. And what's with the angel using a Thor hammer anyway? Oh well. |
The Expendables-what a bad ass action flick! I loved it!

El Topo (1970). This surreal western utilizes religion and occult symbolism and allegory to sum up the paradox of man. The result is a mess of a movie if one were to look at it from a movie goer's perspective. Instead, this flick must be viewed in light of a philosopher's mindset, wildly open to conflicting interpretations. The fatalism of human existence is wonderful, no matter what man sets out to do, he will either be doing it for the wrong reasons or with unintended results. By merely trying, man is bound to fail. And yet, to do nothing is just as disastrous. How nice! With low production values, the film is still a great success, as its convoluted message gets booted out of the closet and into the blinding light of civilization's absurd convictions.
Saints and Soldiers (2003). This low-budget war flick delivers a champagne quality message of war. A character driven story, the cast and their portrayals could not have delivered a better band of would-be heroes. During the throngs of war, what comes into question is what a guy should hold true, be it his patriotism, his camaraderie, his duty, or his humanity, and in very uncertain terms hints that this is no easy question with an even more uncertain answer. What is more, as the flick moves forward, so does the understanding of the soldiers as to their allegiances, if only to call them further into question. The acting was simply awesome and powerful, whose puissance is expressed in subtle gestures. The story, based on true events of WWII, was simple and incredible. The direction and camera all bring into light the cold and bitter field with which our heroes are to exact their ultimate enterprise. Merci beaucoup. Genruk' |

The Tripper (2006). David Arquette has created a carnival of drug hazed carnage in this fun little B horror whose political machinations are as subtle as a race riot. This flick unfairly gets a low rating cuz people just take their political intrigues too seriously, and while the republican right is portrayed in a rather severe light, the liberal hippies are depicted as retarded imbeciles almost deserving their punishment. The acting, especially for a B movie, was decidedly competent. Arquette's direction show that his career should rightfully be found in the director's chair. The story itself was funny, inventive, and wonderfully convoluted without being overdone; and that dialog... The camera was wonderfully dedicated to expressing the fog of a drug bender in the throes of a blood fest. Good clean fun this was, naked granola soaked in blood.

7-8/10 Definitely one of the better zombie movies out there. |
The Expendables (2010)
Meh - I was hoping for more. Rourke, Roberts and Zayas were awesome, but the main characters bored the Hell out of me. The least they could have done was throw in a few more action scenes - let's face it, thats what we went to see. The action we get is pretty badass, but there's way too much painfully dull dialogue in between. I can forgive a lack of plot and character development in a movie like this, just so long as I have something to keep me interested: a snappy script, non-stop action, quirky characters...I didn't get any of this. See Machete instead. The Girlfriend Experience (2009) Interesting look at a high-class escort. Not much happens, but the performances were surprisingly strong. Not bad. Kabluey (2007) Still don't know what to make of this one. Quirky and original for sure, but every single character is annoying as hell. Very well acted, but I wanted to slap every fucking one of them. Entertaining enough though, and definitely something different. |

This is a solid sequal, but it gives us nothing new from the original and it lacks the fear factor the original had. As we already know about the creatures. Still there us some cool scenes to check out and it is a good continuation of the story. 6.5/10 http://flmsdown.net/uploads/posts/20...x-619-copy.jpg Thanks for the ride lady! 7.5/10 |
A Haunting in Conecticut. Actually enjoyed this more than I thought. Only watched it as it was lent to me but enjoyed the story. Special effects I thought were a little dodgy though x

The Video Dead (1987)
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/2464/vd1c.jpg "How nice to see you all! Won't you come in?":D >>: B Persona (1966) http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/9239/persona66.jpg Another definitive incredible experience for any Bergman movie fan which was meant to be shot in black & white to capture the essence of its obscurity of silence and the everlasting psychological turmoil of a challenging character study. Hats off to the one of the greatest masters in cinema for his undeniable magnificence in movie making. >>: A Bikini Girls on Ice (2009) http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/919...girlsonice.jpg In compare to the recent low budget slasher films this one comes with an above average production value. The story follows a simple formula...When a bus-load of women college soccer players get stranded on their way to a bikini car-wash fundraiser, they decide to set-up shop in front of an abandoned gas station on the edge of town. Little do they know the place is the stalking-grounds for a homicidal maniac mechanic named Moe. Even though you will see everything coming, there are no surprises, the acting is merely passable, the movie still remains fun enough for a view for slasher lovers. But the sad part is...in most of the killings the viewer gets to see is blood being thrown on the walls, there was no direct & straight chopping scene to show the gruesome splatter effect on the victims. >>: C |
Vertigo (1958). Labeled as one of Hitchcock's best, Vertigo definitely give the others a run for their money. Vertigo is simply a well crafted affair from all aspects. A hitchcockian affair, it also creates an atmosphere of originality apart from the master's other works. The story was incredible with perfectly timed twists and great dialog, all threaded together tom come together in the end. The acting was sublime, the direction perfect, and the camera work stupendous. This classic has definitely held to its reputation. Ashe.

I love the score, and the fashion, and all the Troma about it! 7/10 |
Evil Dead: Yet another purchase of Evil Dead. I think this is the fourth version I have. VHS, DVD, DVD metal box edition, and now Blu-Ray. The Blu-Ray transfer honestly leaves a bit to be desired. It has a weird texture to it that just seems odd. I guess it's their attempt to get rid of grain maybe? But that aside, there's not too much else to say. It's Evil Dead and it rocks.
From Beyond: Classic 80s Lovecraft. It has probably been at least 15 years since I last watched this and it still holds up quite well. A bit cheesy in spots, but overall it has aged rather well. Frozen: Shitty movie is shitty. Although I have to say I liked it better than Hatchet which I utterly hated. I know, I know. That's blasphemy around here, but Hatchet was far too cheesy and just downright far too stupid for me to enjoy at all. While Frozen was absolutely abysmal in the acting department I found it pretty tense only because I'm a snowboarder and I kept running through being in that scenario in my mind. But in the end, there's no way in hell I could recommend this one to anyone. |
Planet of the Apes (Remake)
One of the better Burton films in my opion; it's not the same story like the rest. |

Bound to be totally inaccurate in parts but I don't know much about the band aside from their music. They made Darby Crash out to be a less of a shit talking mess than what I've seen in interviews. I dig the Germs music but never really bought into the whole Darby Crash was a genius thing. Kinda disappointed it didn't show how they were involved with the other bands round LA at the time. Think I dug The Runaways more but this makes a nice companion piece to it. The purists should just probably stick to The Decline Of Western Civilization but this was an enjoyable enough bio-pic for me. |

Sugarhouse (2007). This was a twisted punch-gut crime drama centering on two worlds that never should have come together, let alone collided. Even worse, we come to see with our own eyes how prejudiced we truly are. The acting was powerful, where even minor players give standout performances. Ashley Walters created a standout portrayal of his character, maintaining a paroxysm of body undulations only dulled by intense moments of heartfelt empathy. Andy Serkis' poorly checked underlying rage was palpable, and Steven Mackintosh's desperation was appropriate as his plight was finally revealed. The story itself was almost eclipsed by these performances, a gritty tale that most readers will only experience on the silver screen. The result was an unexpected emotional thunderbolt that struck deeper than tears. Merci beaucoup.

Harry Brown--Michael Caine goes Bronson----I liked it
Prince of Persia--adequate enough "popcorn" movie--but what's with the English accents ? The Gore Gore Girls--early H.G. Lewis film with bad acting, cheap effects, tits and stupid story----fun times Blood Feast 2--after 40 years H.G. hasn't lost it...more bad acting, cheap effects, tits and stupid story. |

A Serbian Film
Quite enjoyed this although there were a couple of scenes which I found extremely unpleasent and hard to stomach. |
Pop Skull-A complete mindfuck of a movie. I had heard about this movie for about 2 years. The hype is true. This might be a new sub-genre called "acid horror" Basically it details the downward spiral of a dejected & rejected ex boyfriend and pill addict, into complete craziness. The lead looks like a combo of Cobain and J Phoenix. A couple of things to point out. There is fairly heavy use of strobe lighting throughout the film. So if you do have epilepsy be warned. The atmosphere is dark, the photography is terrific considering the micro budget. Also, there are a few perfectly placed shocks to keep you off guard. If you have access to this film take a look, its worth it. This film reminds of early Lynch (ie Eraserhead, sort of)
