Lost Highway (1997). Lynch's flick are just like dreams, they are very unrealistic but the viewer never seems to question nor care. With most people, the desire to "comprehend" what has just happened obscures the magic of his madness. Sometimes it is better to just let the bedlam unfold, allowing the artistic eye revel in the palate of celluloid that has just received witness. This flick was simply another outstanding, nonlinear, maddening work of a master of dementia. The acting was awesome. Patricia Arquette was sublimely delicate and lethal. The dialogue was awkward, but somehow it was masterfully performed and only added to the sense of foreboding. The camera work and the lush, dark color was splendid. The soundtrack and score were wonderful in application. For movie lovers, this is simply heroin. Mercie beaucoup.

Ghost World
Didn't care for this at all when it first came out but really dug it this time round. It got me quite sentimental about my past :o |
The Beyond- loved this, brilliant, until the last 20 minutes when it became just another run of the mill zombie flick. Prior to that it was interesting and unusual.

Watched "The Cars that ate Paris" directed by Peter Weir, nice little film. Just got a copy of Peter weirs "Picnick at hanging rock", I heard thats also good.:)

Daybreakers
I fucking hated Undead so I didn't set my expectations to high for this one. Daybreakers is an infinitely better film and despite a few plot holes I didn't buy and my pet hate of shitty NZ/Home & Away stars popping up on the screen I really dug it. Cool blend of both vampire and dystopian future flick. Dafoe was great as usual and Sam Neil played the slimey fucker role to perfection. |
Iron Man 2
While a little light on actual conflict, this sequel presents far less of a drop-off in quality than most sequels. The acting is great, the nerdy in-jokes all work and it provides a fun afternoon at the cinema. Not as goood as the first flick, but not half as bad as I've heard some say. 6.9/10 |
Dead Space: Downfall.
Never played the game, so I don't know much about that, but the movie was really good. Great animation. Gory, but different from the animated gore I'm used to. Still; very good, and it managed to capture a great sense of claustrophobia and panic. 4/5 |

Hatchet for the Honeymoon (1970)
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/433...honeymoonr.jpg ***SPOILER*** At very early voice over after the film starts we find an interesting monologue: My name is John Harrington. I'm 30 years old. I'm a paranoiac. Paranoiac. An enchanting word, so civilized, full of possibilities. The truth is, I am completely mad. The realization which annoys me at first, but is now amusing to me. Quite amusing. Nobody suspects I am a madman. A dangerous murderer. Not Mildred, my wife. Nor the employees of my fashion center. Nor of course my customers. Not only Bava's one of the finest but a very different Giallish psychological horror of early 70's which is (IMO) little bit like a fantastic cross between two legendary psychological horror thriller of all time...Psycho (1960) & American Psycho (2000)! The voice over, flashbacks, excessive zooms, subjective camera use, swift shots of the dolls and beautiful visual design masterfully reflect a killer's diseased mind. And from the very beginning since we're attached with Harrington's point of view & thoughts, we get the chance to relate with his trauma & hunger for killing easily. Plus the way Bava always captured the typical Gothic mansion is like a labyrinth that only a maniac like Harrington could understand. "A woman should live only until her wedding night. Love once and then die"...hats off to Mario Bava once again. >>: A |
Boondock Saints (1999). Having high expectations, I was not expecting those expectations to be blown out of the water. William Defoe's character was at first a shock, but then his became a strong performance of one the greatest characters that has ever blessed the silver screen. At times this wonderful flick becomes a little unrealistic, but that was only because it was too busy being a stunningly gorgeous symphony of celluloid. The acting was great, the story over the top perfect, with solid direction and camera work to boot. Simply a wonderful action experience. Ashe.

Clash of the Titans (2010): First watch. I've always been a fan of the original so wanted to give this a watch when I got the chance. Can't say I was very impressed. It's like they had a bunch of scenes from the original they wanted to keep then wrote some crap filler to pad it out, while still attempting to butcher the scenes they did keep. They tried to break away from the original story in some aspects but ended up with a really confused and boring script. Some aspects were fun and I did manage to sit through it, but I thought all in all it was a pretty poor effort. For what is ment to be an all out action film, I found the film dragged its heels at every opportunity. The original is brimming with camp style and the quality stop motion effects of Ray Harryhausen. This one really didn't have anything going for it.
Oh and the only arabic character in the film turns out to be a suicide bomber. |

@Topic: Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) Loved it. First Terminator movie I sat through when I was a child, this was around when Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) had been first released in theatres. So I was around twelve years old. Classic. *thumbs up* I also loved the T-800 model Terminator (Arnold Schwartzenegger) Pescedero Escape figure produced by NECA. Comes with a great Sawed off shot gun. :) |

The Butterfly Effect I and II
Both better than I expected |
Cat People (1982). This classic, steamy thriller was not shy in the use of flesh to allure the viewer's eye. But this was not some cheezy sexploitation flick. The nudity is more than relevant to the story, which use elements of polar irony to showcase its characters. The story itself was decent, including one rather realistic and brutal scene that was wonderfully portrayed. The use of colors was artistically explored with aplomb. The direction was more than solid, and the acting was pretty decent. Overall, it was the atmosphere that deserves the most credit here. As well, the ending was pretty solid. Merci beaucoup.

Orphan: Not a bad film. Thought some aspects of the story were delivered well, although at times it did seem a little hit and miss. Thought the cast were really good and the acting was solid throughout. The direction was good, there were some nice touches that elevated the film above the usual formulaic horror.

http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/1...sathedevil.jpg >>: A- Shock 'em Dead (1990) http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5990/emdead.jpg The story of an ultra-geeky nerd who sells his soul to the devil in return for becoming a big-time rock star. He goes from being a loser who makes his living slinging pizzas, to being Angel Martin, the hottest thing on the Sunset. One heck of a trashy fun! Loved it.:D >>: B- The Stoning of Soraya M. (2008) http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/3...gofsorayam.jpg When justice can’t resolve or detect a crime properly but uses hideous ways of punishment then the justice itself becomes the most dreadful crime on earth. It’s not about the controversial serious issues of a religion, it’s about how far a human being can go & turn himself more than a wicked animal to set up conspiracies & chose the most inhuman & outrageous way to kill a helpless innocent victim of society. I was thinking for a while that I’d like to highly recommend this film to you all but at the end it makes me feel so sad, frustrated & helpless that I’ve changed my mind. Specially the last part of the film when the “judgment” begins & starts to unfold its ugliest face (‘the stoning’ part)…it becomes very disturbing to watch, surely the scenes has the right capacity to make anybody upset whether he or she used to be a fan of watching tortures & gore in films or not. >>: A |
Black Sheep (2006). With mutant killer sheep as the premise of this flick, one wonders how it ever got from an idea to an actual production. In a word, cuz it was swimmingly good fun. With the guys at WETA Workshop helming the gore, a director that had a clear picture in mind, and a young vibrant cast bringing verve to the set, this fun horror piece was a treat. While it was definitely a horror comedy, it never disintegrates into a morass of silly garbage, but instead remains on that ever wonderful, precarious threshold in betwixt terror and the absurd. The acting was pretty darn good for such an enterprise, doing their own stunts for most of the project. And Danielle Mason was quite the cutie in her role as Experience, a chakra loving new age rager. This is one of those special flicks whose set chemistry defies description. Ashe.

Legion: Interesting premise, but weak execution. There were just so many points that I had to utterly suspend disbelief. Not to do with the angels and whatnot, but mainly to do with the human's reactions, or more specifically lack thereof to them.
Last House on the Left (2009): Particularly brutal and unrelenting. Very well done. I have yet to see the original, but this one was quite good. I'll have to see the original and compare. |
Iron Man 2
The origin/escape etc in the first one was I think a better introduction/first third in the first film, but the dialogue and villain/s (+villains backstory) were I thought way better this time around. Still thinking an avengers film would be a bit iffy, but hey... |

Enemy at the Gates (2001). This is pretty much a picture perfect Hollywood war flick, but is one that is done right. The glories of war are shown in a dismal and squalid light, a theatre difficult for any man to become inspired to fight. Jude Law's character, based on a real-life hero, does just that and serves as a source of inspiration to help to win the Battle of Stalingrad. The greatest obstacle to this flick was the accents and spoken languages, all of which were English and were without any attempt to at least offer up a German or Russian accent. Though Hollywood perfect in structure, with just the right amount of violence, intrigue, and sex, this film was done right, maybe a hint that tinsel town might come back around and make movies for more than just the masses. Or not.
