I understand your annoyance, some of the older comics I like have been destroyed by, imo, complete no-marks.

In ref. to Bob Hope, Ive never really got the humour with him for some reason. Ive seen plenty of his stuff over the years but its not my thing.

I'll go with Hope for nostalgic reasons.

JB for sure.... Not only is he funny but he's a good musician too.

In theory, I'm with you, monkey. There's no denying Hope's place in comic history- but like Scouse, I've just never cared for him. Even as a kid, he wasn't that funny to me. His humor was always a bit square. He's practically the only classic comedian I would vote against.

I'm a much bigger fan of Diller- I always thought her act was hilarious. I really really appreciate the outrageousness of Jack Black, though. The early Tenacious D stuff- before it got put on album, was really original and groundbreaking, IMO. He's a really good actor too. Check out his hilarious role in Cradle Will Rock, for instance.

Hope has amused me many times over the years, but Jack Black makes me laugh out loud.

I had a tough choice between Phyllis Diller and JB too.

I can't vote for Lemmon because I don't consider him a comedian. This is the best comedian tournament. Jack Lemmon is one of the most talented actors to ever grace the silver screen. Many of his roles are comic. But that doesn't, IMO, make him a comedian.
