Marley & Me

As an owner of 3 dogs, this overly sentimental canine tale did have a certain resonance, especially towards the end :(
Definitely average, but what the fuck....................I liked it.

The Happening

Great idea, not very well executed

Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
(1972)

It's really great to see how nicely they put Poe's Black Cat under a creepy Giallo structure with a little bit of Gothic touch. The result is fantastic like its title. The best Sergio Martino film I have seen so far.

Ninja Assassin (2009)

I think it wouldn't be so bad idea to see one day this Ninjas are fighting in the middle of the Aliens vs Predators war!

Open Graves (2009)

A group of surfers discover an old board game that claims a life every time it's played.

Nine Dead (2010)

Pretty average thriller with a very disappointing ending.

[.REC] 2 (2009)

http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/879/rec2w.jpg

It may lacks in shocker punches like the original one delivered one after another but overall it's a pretty decent follow up indeed and this time it comes with more broad & elaborate explanations of the situation.

Friday the 13th [Remake]

I won't lie, it did keep me kind of interested. However, the acting was pretty poor and the story was as predictable as they come. The sex scenes and nudity was ridiculously forced and the script was lacking. Some of the deaths were mildly interesting. I don't know why, but very early on I got a kinda House of Wax feeling...Oh wait, I do know why! Bunch of bad acting kids go out to the woods, there's a caring brother looking to save his sister from a psycopath. 2/5

Heh, weird. I saw this the other day aswell. Borrowed it from a friend. And I agree, I loved it completely. The flashbacks worked perfectly and the acting was great. The prison showers...

I see you've got sky movie channels too. Saw this one myself last night and it was about as poor as I expected, some grisly scenes, chases through dark woods and lots of screaming. Pretty sure you need more to make a horror film but obviously Mr. Zombie believes different.

Mum and Dad (2008). Yikes! A brutal display of a family turned sour, Mum and Dad is a wicked little entry that was made on a forced budget. The whole idea behind Microwave Film is to makes movies at a 100,000 pound ceiling, and M & D does this nicely. Though at times its budgetary deficits shines through, that it accomplished its goals with an almost first rate horror flick is enough to give this one a go. The acting was solid, with all of the characters doing their part well. The direction was more than competent. With some more than memorable scenes (what an Xmas!), Mum and Dad definitely does more with less, and grotesquely so. Merci beaucoup.

Yes, I was beginning to notice some correlation between the list on TV Guide and Sky Anytime and your posts in this thread :D

It was just okay for me. The script let it down several times, IMO.

Moon (2009). Just imagine a space sci-fi that is driven by an engaging story as opposed to CGI and relentless action (not that there is anything wrong with that) and you have Moon. It's a little ways into the future and the Earth, or rather man, is running out of energy. Sound familiar? That's where our story begins, but that's where the familiarity ends and an original story branches out. In fact, this one even uses our expectations of played out cliches of other sci-fi movies to create a lingering sense of dread. Sam Rockwell gives an incredible performance in his role as Sam Bell. The direction was solid and the camera work was competent. Though a little predictable at times, even this does not detract from the story. This was simply a solid sci-fi by all accounts. Merci beaucoup.

Tony Scott double bill...

Man on Fire- Personal favourite. Pretty much like everything about it, more bite than your typical action film.

The Fan- Hit & miss. Some quality moments from DeNiro but the film itself is all over the place and never really gets anywhere near what it threatens to be.

"The last horror movie" 5/10

The lead dude Kevin Howarth reminded me a lot of Pierce Brosnan.

Those two in the same movie would be frekin weird!!

In a similar vein, Lesbian Vampire Killers

How is it possible to screw up a film that contains a shitload of lesbian vamps? This Brit horror/comedy is bloody awful with the script and acting especially notable for their crapness.

I think today most of the high profile filmmakers doesn't give a try for this kinda vintage & gripping thriller anymore. So fans of the genre should be glad that Mr. Scorsese did it and saved this beautiful story from portraying in a flawed fashion.

The year's best so far.

The Lost (2006). This started out reeking of bad horror gone worse, but then something happened. This twisted affair was just askew enough to keep the viewer off kilter in order to entice interest. Good thing too, cuz this movie kept true to its discombobulating essence. Ray Pye was chillingly portrayed by Marc Senter, and this performance turned more and more powerful as Ray's world became less and less under his control. Somehow, a sense of raw, nascent evil emanates out of Ray that cannot be defined nor dismissed. Also discomforting was the hints at some sense of deja vu throughout the story. The acting was awesome, the direction strong. The soundtrack was perfect. The camera work and inventive use of differing films only added to the tension. And while the violence was intense it was never gratuitous. Overall this was an awesome entry to the sub-horror genre.

The Wild Bunch (1969). A mean film if there ever was one, this film almost uses it brutality of animals to depict the brutality that is man. Not that the men are themselves angelic here. The Wild Bunch are a band of men that are loathsome whilst loyal. And while banditry will never go out of style, our criminals here find themselves relics of a new age, and not getting any younger, they know it. The story itself portrays the "wildness" of the characters with aplomb. The direction was perfectly strong. With violence and imagery that was more than overbearing for its day, The Wild Bunch deserves to be in shelved in the 'classics' department. Ashe.

Trouble Every Day (2001)

Another master work by auteur Claire Denis, and just like many of her films is completely entrancing. A story of individuals, the inability to communicate and love, and how that can affect us like a disease, one which can be overcome even if (or perhaps especially if) the change seems impossible (the disease, in this case, is illustrated in cannibalism, the reason this film has been so sadly derided). The film is structured in opposites, each character painted with polar attributes and allowed to suffer and love on their own.
It is a challenging film, and even to describe it only as I did above would be reductive. There is an astonishing style. Sex acts, given their ambiguous role, are framed in ambiguous close-ups; overlapping limbs and crevices and canvases of naked skin. The soundtrack is there, but doesn't intrude. And we are given performances of absolute abandon (especially from Béatrice Dalle, which is important considering her character).
Trouble Every Day is bold and violent, yet haunting and tender; a film that probes the grotesqueness of individual suffering, and does it bravely.

I thought this was a really great movie, though after a while all the digital effects started to annoy me. I wish the filmmakers had had more faith in their story, and had just given it a straightforward style.
