From Within (2008). This little psychological thriller was actually a nice treat. The story itself was standard fare but well crafted and dark indeed. The acting was solid and worked well to make for some pretty ugly, self-righteous scenes driven by hatred. The camera-work kept things edgy. The scares were enough to keep one on edge, though it is not a flick for the gore hound and the like. The direction was adept as well. While the ending was a little predictable, the fact that it bravely followed through made up for this little shortcoming.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006). Absolutely genius and hilarious, this is the perfect slasher 101 flick. While that last act was not as enjoyable as the first two, it is out of necessity to the overall theme of the movie and it should in no way detract from the brilliance of this lovely horror flick. Started my annual November movie marathon...
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA240_.jpg http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA240_.jpg This year it's gonna be...yes you guessed that right...action movies. Lots and lots of 80s and 90s stuff. Plus it gives me a chance to put these new Altec Lansing babies through the test...and they have some serious kickass output lemme tell ya! |
Halloween 1,2 & 3 (Season of the Witch is prob my fav of the Halloween films)
Rogue This was a surprisingly decent creature feature from the director of Wolf Creek. A tourist boat in the Australian outback travels into the territory of a giant crocodile and end up being trapped on a small island with the tide rising. Theres some good fx, well paced story and solid acting. Well worth checking out. Red Excellent film about a man who wants justice for the brutal murder of his aging companion, his dog Red, by a group of bad seed teens. Brian Cox is the lead and is absolutely fantastic, his character has had a life filled with tragedy and he displays this wonderfully. When his attempts to get the boys and their parents to face up to what they've done fails, he turns to other means. This is not a straight forward revenge flick but much more subtle and realistic, defo a must see in my book. |
Not horror, but I don't care because it is simply genius - Rocky Balboa (or Rocky VI as I like to call it).

Paranormal Activity. I really liked it, and it really scared me. If it wasn't the fact that some jerk spoiled the ending for me weeks ago the ending would have been really great.

Had some nice scares, but between them the movie was quite slow paced and a lil bit boring. And the ending was shite. |
The Tournament (2009)
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/9614/tournament.jpg Nice action flick but the ending could be much better. >>: B- Up (2009) The best of the best from Pixer. The first ten to fifteen minutes are easily the most emotionally impact portion of the entire film. Using little to no dialogue, the opening "montage" of this film tells the story of Carl and his wife Ellie, and the beautiful life that they share together. Carl is such a lovable character, that we feel for him from the very beginning. You feel the joy that he feels, and when his wife passes away, you feel his loss. By the end of the whole sequence, it turns into one of those rare celluloid moments that stays in heart forever. A brilliant animated feature (top notch in every department) with a pure heart & soul that shares an adventure truly for all ages. >>: A+ |
TRICK R TREAT (a pretty good effort), and INFESTATION (Fun little creature feature that has some good moments), THE HILLS RUN RED (starts off well, then just falls apart halfway through. lame!)

Glad you liked it! I only got it because the vid shop had a four for £10 promotion on, very pleased I did. Franklyn Certainly different, two stories running alonside one another, one set in London and the other set in a mysterious metropolis called Meanwhile City. It takes a long time for the stories to come together and it does drag its heels at times but its not a bad film all told. I had it pretty much figured out after half an hour or so (Im usually wrong about these things so was very pleased I got it correct this time!) but it had enough about it to keep me going to the end, especially the visuals of Meanwhile City which are great. Dont go out your way to see this but it is worth a watch. |
ZOMBIELAND.....fun movie....great cameo.

I Stand Alone (1998). "The story of a man like so many others, as common as can be. It starts off in France, shithole of cheese and Nazi lovers." The opposite of a Mary Poppins flick, this bleak flick oozes abject despondancy mixed with hateful philosophic rationalization. Not a movie for everybody, but for those with a strong stomach and a penchant for art mixed with nihilism, this is a must see. Be prepared for some Prozac washed down with a whiskey afterwards. Ashe.

A: Art Been years since I've seen that one. Carl Weathers never really took off as an action star especially after Hurricane Smith :D A bit of a pity seeing as he had a really good presence and charisma in Action Jackson. The director Craig R. Baxley should've been bigger too Stone Cold and Dark Angel (aka I Come In Peace) are classics of action cinema but minor cult hits don't cut it when the studios want "Die Hards" and "Lethal Weapons" i.e $$$$$$$$. |
Funny Games(2007)
It was pretty good! I want to find the original(1997) and see that. |

Not a bad little outting for all us Hepcats - Unfortunally its not near as good as the director's precious JD outting 'The Cool and the Crazy' but it does have Richard Bakalyan back as his usual lingo spouting greaser... Oh yea the guy who play Ike Godsey from the Waltons is a teen Thug too... http://granadamovieposters.com/photo...ejunglelc2.jpg |

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009)
Totally DESTROYED my expectations. The books were my absolute favourites when I was younger, so even though this looked pretty lame I had to check it out anyway. Based on the trailers I wasn't expecting much at all, but as it turns out, I really had fun with it. Stays surprisingly faithful to the books, essentially adapting the first and second, while mixing in some elements of the third as well. It's obviously condensed quite a bit, but they hit most of the major points and keep the atmosphere completely intact. John C. Reilly was a huge surprise as Crepsely - I hated the idea when I heard he was cast, but he actually did a lot of justice to the character; after seeing it, I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role. Casting was bang on all-around...all the "freaks" were awesome, Ray Stevenson was perfect as Murlaugh (though I do wish they had used more of Tunnels of Blood so he could have got more screentime), and even the younger cast were pretty impressive - specifically Josh Hutcherson as Steve, who managed some wonderfully menacing moments during the climax. Of course there are elements that as a fan of the books, I could nitpick about. But on the whole it was a very faithful and HIGHLY entertaining adaption of one of my favourite modern vampire stories. Anyone who has read the books will not be disappointed, and if you can get past the fact that it's geared towards a younger audience most everyone should find something to enjoy. Fingers crossed they stick to the plan and adapt the rest of the series - this really left me wanting more. |

I was watching Death Hunt with Charlie Bronson and Lee Marvin last night and he turned up in that too funnily enough. I'm well overdue to check out Copland again. I've always really dug it and thought of it as Sly's standout performance and was a return to his earlier work where he wasn't as typecasted. |
Children of the Corn - I'd seen it once before years ago but didn't remember too much of it. It's an interesting kind've film, though personally didn't find it all that terrifying.
#2 of the above ^^ - Hm..."more of the same" only not quite as good. UP - I really liked this one. Whoever said that the opening montage was a little sad hit the nail on the head there - though I find that the subject matter of death was treated in a respectful and gentle way, doesn't bring the overall tone of the film down so much, just throws some melancholy into the mix - it's a good introduction to the character. It's a nice tale of moving on, love, loss, rediscovery of passion and friendship, and expectations not always turning out as one might think in life. Very solid film if you ask me, for all ages. It's funny too, and I think in regards to the animation some of the textures are really, unbelievably good. So...I downloaded it, but this one's on my buy list without question. |
Commando
Ted Bundy yeah....a weird combo for sure |
Repulsion (1965)
Claustrophobic, implicitly (and violently) sexual, psychotic dream-journey. So good ! |
Tenement: Game Of Survival
a movie that looks like it was made by a first year film student. There are times where you can see shadows casted by crew members. Still pretty fun though. |
Stepfather (Terry O'Quinn)

Feast (2005). An all out fun, monster-style horror flick. The range of characters was outstanding, all of which played their parts marvelously. Saddled with great humor, and even a refreshingly interesting scene or two, i did not even realize this was made with only a million bucks until i read more about it later. With lots of blood, smokin' hotties, and lots of fun, a definite must see. Ashe.

SAW IV (2007). Pretty good movie, I liked the whole game with Daniel Riggs trying to save Detective Eric Matthews, and Detective Mark Hoffman. Especially the part where he had to strap the rapist to the bed who was making out with his dog, etc.

Suspect Zero (2004). While there may be a lot to pick apart in this film, there is also much to like. The dark imagery alone was worth it, add that to Ben Kingley's performance and you have a worthwhile 100 minutes of fun. The story itself was decent, though the script itself could have enjoyed many improvements (like that ending). The camerawork enjoyed some pretty intriguing camera angles. Also, there were somed "tortured soul" scenes that were themselve pretty gripping. All in all, though far from perfect, a fun watch. Ashe.
