Hellraiser!

RocknRolla (2008). Guy Ritchie has yet to let me down, though his last offering was a little over the top. This flick was just a perfect guy flick. Simple, solid story, solid acting, wonderful camera-work, and no lack of smart humor. All in all, a great watch. Ashe.

The Knowing

Almost surprised myself by enjoying this one. Always had time for Nick Cage and he carried this one along quite nicely. The one problem is the way the story ends for the kids involved (those who have seen this know what I mean) which I really didnt like. Still, worth a view.

Parasomnia

Since the only review on the box came from HDCs very own stacilayne gave me the impression that this could be an acquired taste. Fortunately I dont think it is.
This is not an out and out horror, but a quite clever and different story about a well intentioned man trying to help a girl suffering from an ailment which means she spends most of her time asleep. Unfortunately she has also caught the eye of a sociopath who is incarcerated in the room next to hers in the towns psych ward. The film looks good, acting is acceptable and is well paced so check it out.

Dead Snow

Horror comedy involving nazi zombies and a log cabin full Norwegian medical students. Not quite as good as I hoped, some of the comedic set pieces seemed a little forced to me but Im sure most people here will not regret investing 90 minutes to see it.

Severed Ties.

Not worth the time. Even Garrett Morris is wasted. I mean his talent. Well, he probably was wasted too....

Le Cercle Rouge (1970). Another great Melville gangster flick. i loved how he spent so much time on the "job." His use of silence and human gesture to express human emotion is wonderful. The characters, ranging from cool cats to the patiently intelligent to being pushed to the brink by demons, are sublime. The cinematography is a splendid treat. All around a wondeful movie. Ashe.

Trick 'r' Treat

I really really loved it. It was such a fun movie, and not at all what I expected. I think the anthology idea was really well suited for a Halloween movie, and I think more movies like this should be made.

Anyone have any idea if they plan to make like... comics for this? Something in the vein of Tales from the Crypt (still fun, but more violent) would be amazing to read.

and Sam was too cute. I think I need to make myself a Sam plush toy to cuddle.

A trade paperback came out like 2 weeks ago, not sure if it's just an adaptation of the movie or what, but I saw it on the list. I've yet to check it out.

Love this film, Paddy Considine is fantastic.

Last House on the Left (09)

Surprisingly good remake imo. It kept up a good pace and shock value, looked good with believable characterisation. Shame about the microwave scene which ruined it.

Autopsy

Silly film, if gore levels alone are what you seek than this will satisfy you but there really is not too much interesting about this one.

Where the Wild Things Are

A wonderfully realized adaptation. An impossibly small books becomes a lush, rich film that feels exacctly like being a little boy.

Inside AKA Ŕ L'Intérieur (2007). The French own the word brutal, and this lovely little terror flick is the pudding's proof. This just might earn top honors for best all all-around extreme horror. Ashe.

Merrily We Go to Hell (1932)

Quickly becoming one of my favourite movies. Discovered it a few months back in Universal's "Pre-Code Hollywood" boxset, and I was really impressed with it's script and performances. Upon a second viewing, I still feel the same way...amazingly well made film.

The relationship between Jerry (Fredric March in one of his best roles) and Joan (Sylvia Sidney) is nothing short of heartbreaking, and the bittersweet ending just makes it that much more powerful. March plays one of the most charming, self-centered and fascinating drunks to ever hit the screen...a truly spellbinding performance.

Its a shame this one hasn't stood the test of time - I find that hardly anyone knows about it, but if you haven;t seen it you really are missing out.
