Oh, I see it now. It looked like a girl fed too far into a guillotine to me.

9 (2009)

Pretty much going to echo V and Urge on this one, only I think I might have enjoyed it a bit more. Some of the visuals are amazing, but the plot and characterization are way too weak. Nothing really happens, and you don;t really have any reason to get attached to the characters...but Goddamn there is some cool shit going on visually. Some moments are genuinely creepy, and even though I wasn't overly interested in the events going on, I couldn't bring myself to look away for a second.

Definitely a good movie, but it could have been significantly better if as much effort was put into the story as there was in the visuals. Still - if you intend to intend to see it, make sure you catch it in theatres...can't get over how gorgeous this was, and I think it might lose a little on a small screen.

So much fun..... shame about the rest of the series after this.

7.5/10

Revenge of the Nerds

Her her her......

8/10

Inglorious Basterds

Finally got to see this, I had stayed away from reading the story line, but didn't expect it to be such a different film to the original as what it was.

It was slow at times, maybe it was the lack of music I am so used to in Tarintino movies that made it drag a bit, but overall pretty good fun. Not a masterpiece by any stretch though.

7/10

Salo (1975). My that was unpleasant. Best thing about that flick is knowing that i am not going to see it again. Not a bad movie, just unpleasant. Ashe.

Julie & Julia (2009)

Yes, I am a 19 year old, straight male and yes, I did go see this alone and entirely of my own free will. And for the record, I thoroughly enjoyed it - so if you have a problem with that, you can just fuck right off :)

I actually should clarify that: I thoroughly enjoyed half of it. Even though I could hardly force myself to be even vaguely interested in Julie, Meryl Streep as Julia Child was an absolute sweetheart. Honestly, you couldn't pry the smile from my face during her scenes...such an fun performance, loved it.

Still, the Julie portions were pretty useless. I can't see who thought it would be a good idea to make a movie about a dull, self-absorbed blogger. I wanted to up and leave every time the story switched to her...things picked up a little bit near the end, I will admit, but still not enough to make her worthwhile.

Wait for DVD, so you can fast forward and only watch the Julia Child moments. They really are wonderful...shame they had to drag things down so much with Julie.

The Toolbox Murders

Quite a fucked up wee flick that I was well overdue in seeing (and I call myself a horror fan huh?).

Bubba Ho-Tep (2003). Fun and original, this flick was a treat. Ashe,

Great double feature at the New Beverly Cinema with Rick Baker in attendance. Beware the Moon is a comprehensive documentary about the making of AWIL. Good times!

Jennifer Lynch is following in daddy's footsteps.

Pretty gritty.....a bit overacting by some...Bill Pulman is great and its always good to see Michael Ironside in anything.

Happy Birthday to Me (1981)

Started like Giallo, but then the rest of the killings comes with quite a simple but intelligent styles. love that 'Shish Kabab' one. Though the ending was exaggeratedly twisted but overall like this nice slasher treat from 80's.

Unrest

one of the 8 (or is it 7) films to die for.

not impressed with this one. the story was weak, the acting was so so, but the thing that really got me was the score.

it had to be the most irritating thing i've ever heard .. the same piece playing over and over again. it was like scales on a fish, cool at first but one layer after another of the same damn thing. tension would be built, go nowhere, be built again, go nowhere again ..

worst music in a film since richard bands full moon scores.

A few short films from Jan Švankmajer:

Punch & Judy (aka The Coffin Factory)

All good shorts and worth a watch, 'Punch & Judy' is quality.

Isn't that After Dark Horrorfest one? I liked that too, an unique haunting story with nice creepy atmosphere.
