Transporter 3

instantly forgettable brainless fluff. absolutely nothing that hasnt been seen many times berore, done better.
My brain doesn't turn off enough for me to enjoy a film like this .. complete waste of time.

the freckly girl was pretty sexy though.

Cabin Fever. Clever, funny, and with plenty of bloody gore. Very entertaining.

old British war epic. Quite good example of that sort of thing.

Four Feathers is really great. I haven't seen that in a while, but really epic and realistically gorey.

Watched Young Frankenstein last night. CBC plays a lot of great movies late at night and I forced myself to stay up til 5 when it was over. Really surprised I hadn't seen it before, but it was really really good.

I'd heard bad things bout this so I wasn't really expecting much...turnmed out to be a pleasant surprise. A new concept for a zombie flick - didn't always work, but at least it was vaguely original. The script was pretty hit-and-miss but had some really witty moments. A dumb movie that knows it's dumb and has ALOT of fun with itself.

Overall I really enjoyed it. One complaint - and this goes for all low-budget horror flick - if you don't have the money and/or know-how to make your CGI look decent, DON'T USE ANY. The gore/set-pieces in this one could (for the most part) have been done with practical effects, but they went for really bad CGI instead. Blech.

Haha, I'm glad someone feels the same way I did about this one. I rented it on a whim and found it pretty enjoyable. Like you said, it's a dumb movie that knows it and they just have a blast with it.

The CGI
aliens
were so so so so bad-looking, but kind of appropriate, I thought.

Taken

So next time I go to Paris I can just run around shooting drug dealers and human traders from Albania and get on a plane home with out any trouble, great.

Other than that part not being explained it was a pretty slick action movie.

6.5/10

Altered (2006). Definitely one of the best alien flicks that i have seen in a while. The acting was periodically weak, but no complaints other than that. Ashe.

Lockjaw: Rise of the Kulev Serpent

A man draws a picture of a snake with a magic pen, snake comes to life and starts hunting down a group of braindead teens. Yes, its as bad as it sounds!

Observe and Report

I loved it. It's my favorite movie of the year so far, though nobody else seems to like it as much as I did. Seth Rogen's character was so fucked up and kept me interested. I didn't think it was hilarious (minus Danny McBride and Michael Peņa), but I thought Seth's character more than made up for it.

It's been sitting on my shelf for AGES...bought it 3 summers ago in the states, and just never bothered to watch it. Glad I finally did though.

Now, that part I can forgive - you're right, it fit with the overall ridiculousness of the movie. It's the CGI gore that pissed me off. I mean, they were obviously going for an early Peter Jackson vibe - why not use the REAL red stuff? Shameful and lazy, in my opinion.

I'm talking about the original 1939 British production. There's no gore in it at all.

Ah, yeah. I actually don't remember that. It's been a few years since I've seen it. I think I own it, though. I might have to give it another spin.

CGI gore is the worst, though.

The Toolbox Murders (1978)

I like this a lot more than Tobe Hoopers recent take. It was very sinister, though a little slow at times.

Oh, I'm sorry :(

I'll check that one out though for sure because original is almost always better.

THX-1138 (2004 Directors Cut)

Been awhile since I've seen any dystopian sci-fi...and this is one of the classics to be sure. Kind if wish I could see the original version before Lucas doctored it up with CGI - I'm it would have been far better in the first place.

Still, great movie.

Fans of this movie HATE what Lucas did to it in the director's cut. The only way to see the original now is to watch the original Laserdisc release.... I've always wondered if Urge has one of those tucked away...

Lighthouse

British horror of an average standard. A prison ship sinks near a lighthouse and the survivors plod around the place whilst being picked off one by one by the special case psycho also on board. Some decent set pieces and capable performances by most, suspend the disbelief and you will think this a reasonable watch.

Dante'sInferno 04-18-2009 04:59 PM

Dragonball: Evolution. Sitting through that was like having your eye balls ripped out, then getting stabbed in the sockets with a hot poker. Then being thrown off a cliff.

Watched EYES OF A STRANGER today while my wife was away for several hours. Not bad little slasher. Maltin bombed it but I enjoyed it. Not bad for $3 at Big Lots.

Geddy 04-18-2009 05:32 PM

Watched Castle Freak with some friends this afternoon. Nothing spectacular but still pretty decent.

Time Crimes

There's no mind-fuck like a good time-travel flick - this fits the bill for sure. The script is very tightly written and keeps adding layers to the plot right up to the very end, and the director keeps everything moving along at a perfect pace. Plus the lead actor - Karra Elejalde - is absolutely brilliant in his role...he really carries the film on his shoulders, and creates a fascinating and incredibly complex character.

If you're interested in time travel, you really should see this - one of the best films of it's type that I've seen in a LONG time.

Punisher: War Zone

Loved it - EXACTLY what I was looking for. So bad that it's hard not to enjoy it: the villains are hilarious, the violence is foolishly over-the-top, and the script is so poorly written that you HAVE to laugh at it.

Fans of high art should keep their distance, but anyone looking for a perfect so-bad-its-good action flick should look no further.

Bf is making me sit through it right now. He grew up watching the manga, so he felt like he just had to see what they did to the movie he had so much hope for...

Needless to say, he's chain smoking and on the verge of tears. :p

Cloverfield. It was much better than i guessed. Almost strained my neck from the awkward camera angles. Hud (camera guy) was hillarious. i thought the very ending was clever. Ashe.

Against the Dark.

this 'steven seagal' film is the worst piece of shit excuse for an "i am legend" ripoff - ever.

to the point where they even say "we're the monsters now" wow.

top billed huge puffy fat ass seagal is seen for about 5 minutes here and there in this stitched together convoluted mess .. looking like an overstuffed leather clas sausage .. with the laughable name of 'Tao'

i think he lost his damn mind a few years ago and no longer cares who knows it.

i recommend this film to anyone who loves truely bad movies. sit back and see if you can get the stunned look off of your face. be sure to watch the 'special feature' making of .. just to witness the sheer balls of these 'filmmakers' who by all rights should be in hiding, not proudly discussing this travesty.

I LOVED and still do, the manga and anime. I thought that the movie was way to rushed. There was no, Krillin, no Tien. The fight scenes were OK. I know it's just a kids film, but damn. The only characters i thought were done right, were Roshi and Piccolo. Haha, and there is supposed to be a trilogy. Another thing, Goku? In high school? Being picked on by stupid jocks? WTF? I guess, they changed the story a bit, or were trying to be creative, so i give them kudos for that, but jesus. Bulma was done alright. Ehhh. Tell your BF it's alright. I feel his pain.
