Though its become hip & cool to denigrate Bill Cosby for the blandness of his later career, in the 1960s Cosby WAS comedy. He won the Grammy for best comedy album SIX TIMES IN A ROW- no artist in any genre has ever done that, before or since. Everybody had his albums. Everybody. He was the first comedian to reach such widespread commercial success. Not only does every black comedian owe him a debt of gratitude for breaking the color barrier, every commedian who records is indebted to him for making comedy albums mainstream.
