Diary of the Dead

Elvis_Christ 04-02-2009 05:11 PM

Hank and Mike

Best comedy I've seen in quite some time. Really original, offbeat and dark humoured. Wish there were more like this instead of the dick n' fart jokes that turns into a romantic comedy deal that dominates the genre.

Slaughter House 5 .........first time watching it....a bit fucked up but I couldn't stop watching.

The New Kids------a bit dated but not a bad watch. James Spader made one of the best villains ....a real prick.

Ginger Snaps 2- i love how such a dark movie has such a cutesy title. Better than the first, which i enjoyed immensely. Ashe.

Just got done watching Last House on the Left remake. Fucking awesome. Sure beats Halloween and Friday the 13th remake like whoa. Everyone should see it. ;)

"Monsters vs Aliens"

Great movie. Wonderful animation and a fun story that pays tribute to many of the great 1950's and '60's sci-fi and monster movies.

Very well NE!

Evil Breed

American students on a school trip to Ireland encounter some local cannibalistic mutants. Yup, sounds stupid but its actually not too bad with a couple of decent set pieces and performances.

Worth a watch if you're not too busy.

La Haine(Hate) (1995) - 9/10.

Gritty, and bleak as hell. Fantastic cinematography, directing, and acting. Definetly see it if you get a chance.

The_Return 04-04-2009 04:11 PM

Night Must Fall (1964)It's not horror, NE.

Albert Finney saves this movie...actually, to be honest, his spellbinding performance is the only thing that saves this from being a complete waste of time.

The script is barely coherent and has no semblance of suspense or tension and the supporting cast is equally dull, with the possible exception of Mona Washbourne. Finney's portrayal of the charismatic psychopath is technically a bit over-the-top, but in such drab surroundings he grabs your attention immediately and I was very impressed.

Anyone seen the original, with Robert Montgomery? This seemed o have some potential, I'd kind of like to check that version out if it's worthwhile...

The Choke

A below average teen slasher flick. A young band is locked in a nightcub and are stalked and picked off by a mysterious killer (the usual stuff). The acting is perfectly capable but the story is weak as piss, it just doesnt make any sort of sense. The killings are tame (to say the least) and the twist at the end is about as convoluted as a rulers edge. I wouldnt waste your time one this one.

Lone Wolf McQuaid
awesome, chuck norris vs. david carradine
eXistenZ
another really awesome surreal film from David Cronenberg, this one is quite a mind bender, i highly recommend it.
The Omega Man
Rocky (1st time seeing it)

For some reason I really didn't get into eXistenZ despite (then)being a big Cronenberg fan. I always felt it like a weak version of Videodrome (though the Story is very deifferent there is a lot of similar elements) . I haven't seen eXistenZ since it came out though and i think i might give it another go...

Lolita

They have been showing all Kubrick movies at the Filmhouse this past month, So yesterday was my girlfriends birthday. I have been showing her Kubrick movies all the time we were together, I don't think she had seen any before. This was the first time she had seen it and the first time I had in about 12 years. I had forgotten how comedic it was. Also very dark and disturbing underneath. It's also visualy very pleasent.

The Prophecy- i thought i had seen this one, but was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. C. Walken's dark sense of humor was great, as were his side kicks. i thought that Viggo's perfomance was rather well done as well. Overall a pretty good flick. Ashe.

Nightmare City

Wow, Crazy zombies who are running around with knifes and guns slaughtering everyone. Some big cheese included. Pretty good b grade trash to go along with a Sunday afternoon and a few beers.

Sometimes Cronenberg films have to be watched twice to be enjoyed, for example the first time I saw Naked Lunch I hated it because i was trying to hard to understand all of it, second time i liked it much better because i stopped trying to understand it and just experienced it.

Martyrs, been waiting for this one for a long time :) powerful stuff there, but at the end it is really crippy and disturbing horror story. :)

What does crippy mean?

cheebacheeba 04-05-2009 10:50 PM

It means you wear a lot of blue?

Space adventure: Cobra
Had seen pictures of this for a long time, came across the vcr for 50c and thought I'd check it out.
Strange, very strange...bit similar to cowboy bebop with a lot more weird happening.
I may check out the series that came before it now.

Punisher: Warzone
This is coming from someone who follows the various comic series - while this film is not a thing of greatness and won't be winning any awards for the script, it was actually far closer to the Punisher comic than anything thus far has been.
I enjoyed it, moderately.
It was fun.

Monsters vs. Aliens
Apparently I thought this movie was much funnier than anyone else in the theater...I laughed so hard I peed my pants.

Blood Diner

A silly, trashy, over the top, dumb horror comedy intended as an homage/send up of HG Lewis films.

If you let yourself go and just revel in its outrageousness and awfulness you can have a good time. Excellent soundtrack too.

Currently on Fearnet- if you like this sort of thing, give it a go.

Shadow of the Vampire. This came highly recommended, but i was pretty disappointed. i was not only bored, but what the characters were acting out and how they responded to various situations was completely unbelievable (the acting itself was fine). Unless there was some cryptic theme that i missed, which is very possible, i could not reccomend this movie to anyone. But that's just me. Ashe.

Bio-dome ... my kid thinks paulie shore is funny. cant say that i do.
Joey Lauren Adams was sexy as hell though

Kitaro - another yokai legend story that was a lot of fun. felt very 'stephen chow-ish' fun creature effects.

Papillon Noir 04-06-2009 07:44 AM

Eden Lake

It was eh. Slow to get started and little frustrating to watch as I thought the people who were being terrorized were a little too wimpy. I think I wanted them to fight back more. Nicely shot though.

Disease 04-06-2009 08:00 AM

Wendy and Lucy

Not one to watch if your dog has just died or ran away. or maybe it is.

I thought it was o.k, not a lot really happened though, and the ending didn't make a lot of sense to me. But hey, it's arthouse, that's what you get.
