What a great, dumbfunny movie. Definitely got a few laughs out of me. I only wish that I had seen it in college - I would have found it to be THE FUNNEST MOVIE EVER!

Now... I think it's silly and well-done. I LOVE Trey Parker's sense of humor.

And BOY would I love to get my hands on that gun. ;)

Bigger Stronger Faster*

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...aster-post.jpg

Incredibly intriguing and well-done documentary about performance-enhancing drugs, their users (their families), and a retrospective of their place in society, sports, etc.

The documentary focuses on the concept of being "Bigger, Stronger, Faster," how sports heroes take steroids to become literal super heroes in our society and how their image effects the society that reveres them. It also has a personal touch where the director, Chris Bell, turns the camera on his own family and their steroid usage (but isn't self-indulgent). It's actually refreshing to see both the sweeping biography of steroids and its affect on culture and cut it with personal experience.

All and all a very well-done and fascinating documentary. I recommend it.

Ljuset håller mig sällskap (Light Keeps Me Company) (2000)

An engaging biography/documentary/retrospective about master cinematographer Sven Nykvist, by his son Carl-Gustav Nykvist. It features narration by the man himself, interviews with filmmakers and actors he worked with, and so on. If you have any interested whatsoever in the man who made Bergman's films look as good as they did, I'd recommend giving it a watch. It's only 70 minutes or so, anyway.

Excellent psychological thriller. With the exception of a few issues with the music this film was near perfect.

Been wanting to see that for a long time.

Now i REALLY wanna.

The Hamiltons

Twisted little indie film about a family with a terrible secret... it's a flawed movie. Some horrible acting and there are times it just tries way too hard. But overall a freaky gruesome little story.

Taken from my rant in the My Bloody Valentine thread...

WOW, what a ridiculous amount of fanboy fun!

Quite frankly - Best $24 I spent in the theater in a very very long time.

My Bloody Valentine is a complete and utter homage to the 80s slasher film. The POINT of the gore is to emphasize and sensationalize an entire DECADE of horror that was obsessed with sex, blood, knives, and penetration. Each kill shot was composed BRILLIANTLY and giving nod to everything from Friday the 13th to Fulci's Zombie II.

Why is the script unoriginal and derivative? WHY do you have your pitiful fleeing victims repeatedly falling over themselves?! BECAUSE IT'S A PURPOSEFUL DERIVATION! My Bloody Valentine is spoofing the horror that came before, and EVEN spoofing splatter geniuses that came after! (I mean, part of the POINT of the splatterpunk genre is trying to one-up what came before you... Well, what better way to outdo your predecessors BUT DO IT IN 3D!!!!) Gratuitous? Superfluous? Unnecessary? ABSOLUTELY!!!!!

And did my boyfriend and I love it??? - ABSOLUTELY!!!

While the casual (pedestrian) horror viewer might look at this film as complete and utter horror tripe, My Bloody Valentine is an intelligent esoteric nod to horror fanboys.

For fans of the genre - Absolutely go see this film.

It's a guilty pleasure BLAST!

Oh my..my....!! I'll definitely keep an eye on its any form of dvd release.:)

The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008)

Milk (2008) - 4.5/5

Gus Van Sant has done it; he's harnessed his passion for total creative control and intertwined it with absorbing story-telling, and the result is one of the finest pictures of the year. It must be said that Sean Penn's portrayal of Harvey Milk is flawless- he completely inhabits the man and his spirit. It isn't Penn carrying the film, though; the entire cast is phenominal, especially James Franco. This story is fantastically told via a breed of documentary and narrative style of cinema, and everything about it is not only accessable but totally human.

Black Christmas (1974) - 4.5/5

Scary as hell. This is a horror movie for adults; though it takes place at a sorority (which would now be cliche ground), it takes time to set up distinct characters and a uncomfortability around the house. Bob Clark never rushes the story, and it pays off; the last twenty minutes are some of the most frightening ever made. The most admirable thing about the film is its brave ending, one that does not go off with a bang but instead a cold shiver. Also, I could watch Olivia Hussey paint walls.

Three...Extremes (2005) 2.5/5

Sometimes interesting but never compelling, this anthology is a colaboration of three of Asia's most influential modern directors- which has me wondering why the stories were so bland and one-dimensional. This is all familiar ground; two of the three stories go for flat-out shock value, but unfortunately, when that layer is peeled off, there's nothing left. The tales do get better as they go along, and the stark imagery and creepy finale of Miike's tale leave a better taste in the mouth than the other two, but after the film is done it doesn't linger.

The Pink Panther 2

My buddy took my son and I to the press screening last night.

i knew it was going to be bad - went for the sake of my son who thought it was awsome that he'd be seeing it before anyone else - but holy hell was this movie shit.

steve martin doesn't have a clue (no pun intended) how to play clouseau ..

fucking travesty.

My kid thought it was ok though .. he took the 'reserved' sign off his seat to show the kids at class today :)

Oh yeah, it's definetly a must see. I expected an average thriller but it was so much more.

CrimsonFiend138 01-20-2009 07:55 PM

Over the course of two weeks.

Superbad, Basket Case, Zombi Holocaust, Repo Genetic Opera, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Kung Fu Panda, Pieces, Nightbreed, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Evilspeak, Madman, Slashers, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1&2. The Hamiltons, Night of the Creeps, Shorts on Fear net..(Spooked, Skin and Bones(only one I liked), New Years Day), Hostel, Penny Dreadful.

The Happening

it wasnt a 100% solid movie but it did have effective moments.

Mark W was weird though ... i dont think he has any range outside of a 'tough guy' as a teacher he just didnt click. The girl (Zooey) was just frigging weird for the most part as well. she played it like the character was nuts to begin with.

better than signs ... but miles below 6th sense and unbreakable

Have you seen I Heart Huckabees? The man actually can act. I just think that he was poorly directed in The Happening (big surprise knowing who was at the helm).

The Happening could and SHOULD have been good.

i got the impression that he was directed to be the opposite of a tough guy - he just came off as weird ..

yep - i have Huckabees .. saw it ages ago - liked it - but i cant remember him being in it !

i think the movie was terribly cast - for what the director wanted out of them...
the events were unsettling enough - they didnt need distracting disjointed performances ... it took away from the film ...

neverending 01-21-2009 07:36 AM

Pocket Money.

A strange modern day western starring Paul Newman (doing this weird vocal thing), Lee Marvin, Strother Martin & Wayne Rogers.

Worth watching for the performances.

And, besides, I don't think it was his, uhm, acting that I was paying attention to. :p

My Bloody Valentine 3D

Not too much to say about this one, Chrono and Noir pretty much nailed how I felt about it. I will say that all the great acting and intricate story lines in the world cannot take the place of fun and this movie was blast.

i've been lucky with TVS.

the 1st one i bought (a component style panasonic) finally gave up after almost 25 years. actually it still works - but the colours were flaring up occasionally.

Is it a CRT? Those bastards were tanks, all stainless tubes and everything. It might be a cheap fix, you would be surprised really. I have a cousin who owns a shop and they do all the repairs for the ABC Warehouse and Best Buys around here among others.

I was hoping to get more years out of a Sony. Haven't had much luck with RCA's.....I thought Sony would fair better.

Good excuse to get a nice 42 HD anyway :D

Man on Wire

Utterly breathtaking!

Philippe Petit has to be one of the most fascinating men I've ever seen...this documentary blew me away.

His story is mindblowing, uplifting and endlessly inspiring. The lengths that he went to in the name of art and to accomplish his dream are utterly astounding. When you compound that with the simple fact that HE WALKED BETWEEN THE TWIN TOWERS ON A FUCKING TIGHTROPE...goddamn!

I wouldn't really my call myself an expert on documentaries, but in my somewhat limited experience this has to be the single great doc that I've ever seen. If you're a fan of performance art or of great documentary filmmaking - see this, right now.
