Just saw this last night. It was cute and enjoyable but not a particularly memorable watch. It was cool that it was filmed in Pitt though.

Carlito's Way (1993) - 9/10.

Excellent flick, one of Pacino's best performances in my opinion.

Daredevil.

Second viewing, and I must say the flick has grown on me a wee bit. Granted, DD's world is a lot more complicated, raw and gritty than as shown here, but there are enough nods to the atmosphere which made the Marvel character famous in the first place.

(**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**)

The unflinching way of showing the killing of the criminal whom the court had let go scot-free, the gentle flashbacks, and the wonderful cinematography showing Matt Murdock's vision (especially the one of Elektra in the rain on the rooftop...gorgeous!) and the show-stealer, Colin Farrell as Bullseye, make this for some really decent entertainment.

My gripe - not enough screen time given to the villains, especially Kingpin. But then, the director did a pretty competent job handling all the goings-on in the flick, and also managed to capture the essence of the major characters almost perfectly. And my other complaint, the almost "anti-climactic" showdown between DD and Kingpin...which ended quite abruptly, leaving a void for more.

If you tossed this aside the first time you saw it, my suggestion is to watch it again. I am sure you will change your opinion about the flick.

I was surprisingly entertained buy that one also. While Smith was in some ways regressing, mainly allowing vulgar dialogue to create the comedy there was some truly funny stuff. The high school reunion cracked me up.

I also liked the simple approach to sex vs love. Obviously the entirely situation dissects sex as just sex emotionless but Smith did a totally passable job of creating that "comfort" so to speak that sex didn't mean anything just to go HA but sometimes it does...

Kinda neat... and yeah better then Clerks 2.

I was surprised at just how funny this film is.

Gran Torino (2009)

4/5

The film begins with a funeral, and a sermon about the bittersweet qualities of life and death. Bittersweet is about as good a word as any to describe Eastwood's newest film; it is an exploration of life, both good and bad, and the discovery of beauty and friendship through pain and loneliness. Something I've always admired about latter-day Eastwood is the way he is able to light up a cast, making his surroundings extraordinary because of his presence. Here, a collection of unknown actors become special and sympathetic because Clint allows them to be flawed, allows them to explore themselves. The film is a selfless one, both for Walt Kowalski and Clint Eastwood. It is for and about other people; this is the poetry of his craft.

Did you feel that the kid actor and a couple of the gang members gave rather weak performances?

I did, definately, but in a way I was touched by it, if only because of their averageness. I don't know- in this kind of movie it can fit; I like the fact that Eastwood wasn't going for star power but more an ordinary neighborhood, so he threw a few kids a bone.

There are definately moments, though, where you become a little detached because of the support acting.

Pineapple Express

You know...it wasn't that bad. I was expecting the worst, but it turned out to be rather entertaining. Dumber than a sack of turkey shit, but in such a way that it kept me amused.

James Franco completely stole the show.

The Visitor

Maybe it's because I'm an actor myself, but when I watch a film the #1 thing that can make it or break it for me are the performances. Where this one may be slightly lacking in a few areas, the actors here are utterly mindblowing: restrained, subtle, heartbreaking performances from all involved, especially Richard Jenkins and Haaz Sleiman.

The story revolves around a college professor working in Connecticut, who returns to his apartment in New York City to find an immigrant couple living in his home. The film charts their relationship with each other through happiness and extreme hardship, and more importantly shows Jenkins' character rediscover what it means to be alive.

I was blown away by this movie. Some of the most stunning performances ever put on screen...I can see a lot of people being turned off by the pacing (it's rather slow), but in my opinion it flowed perfectly.

Alky, _V_, Fortunato, Geddy, Austin...Hell, anyone around here that appreciates good performances: If you haven't seen this movie, pick it up immediately. You will not be disappointed.

You should watch "The Trial of the Incredible Hulk", for daredevils first onscreen appearance.
I like the DD movie too, so many people hate the shit outta it...it's better than the first hulk and both FF movies, better than ghost rider for sure.

Noted. I definitely would put DD above Spider-Man 2 & 3 too...one of the few Marvel offerings which I actually liked.

Elektra.

Yes, watching Daredevil the second time rose my wee bit of expectations for this one. Oh boy, still as bad as I remember from the first time watching it. I forgot the main basic flaw of this movie - the lack of an actual substantial plot. If they somehow kept this in DD's world but revolved around Elektra's character, it could have been a kickass movie. As it stands, its still a disappointment.

Garner is bland, and fizzes out on a chance of doing a Bride (remember Kill Bill?), and the rest of the cast are pretty dull. The girl playing Abby annoyed me a lot for some reason, and Terence Stamp looked totally out of league. Not a lot of atmosphere except the final climactic sequence, but that too peters out into a dull ending.

I have heard the Director's Cut makes this movie look better, but I ll skip it. Thank you.

hehehe.. you are right, bro!:D I think I had spend near about an extra 1 / half hr. to cope with the story. At first I didn't understand a single thing about what was going on there but then I realize I need to put an extra attention for this film just for this first viewing.:)

Deathwish 3
my god what a ridiculous movie. The mood of this film is a polar opposite to that of the first two.
This movie is SOO bad, I couldn't believe it. Its a gigantic ball of cheeze. there are several scenes where bronson would stand still and pick off baddies while about a dozen of them would open fire at him at point blank range and never hit him. Another notable scene is when a car is pushed down a hill. Its moving about 15 miles per hour and crashes into the side of another car.....huuuge explosion. Ive seen Deathwish 1, 2, 4, and 5, this one is completely different then all of them, and horribly awesome on so many levels,
Elvis, you would like this movie, if you havn't seen it, check it out.

Oh, by the way, the bad guys in this movie all look similar to this.

Standard Operating Procedure

Honestly, I don't even know why I watched this...don't get me wrong, it's a very well made documentary, it just wasn't for me.

I picked it up because I was so impressed with Morris' Fog of War, but this was a beast of a totally different colour. I wasn't particularly interested in the topic to begin with, and this didn't really pique my interest in any way.

If you're interested in this kind of thing, you certainly should take a look because it is certainly quite powerful and disturbing...but if you're not interested in the Abu Ghraib atrocities to begin with, I'd give this one a pass.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

4/5

An important step in Danny Boyle's career and a risk that will end up rewarded. It certainly isn't conventional, that's for sure. Echoes of City of God resonate throughout the film, though Boyle's slum is much more personable. Still, there is something distant about the film which often kept me on the outside; the film works like a fairy tale, and though the story is magical and charming when it comes together, it isn't relatable. For what it is, though, the film succeeds; it has a pulse, relaying its story with never a dull moment or an unnecessary one. Original, and certainly one of the year's best.

I agree with all of that sentiment. I thought that the movie charmed me all the way through. What a surprise from Boyle, too! I thought that it would be a bit more raw and violent... Though I'm glad that it wasn't.

I highly recommend. it.

I think I'd give it a 4/5 too.

Haven't see this in forever. Cheesey gorefest with some moments of over the top comedy, yet it still packs a ounch as a violent gory horror film.
