Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)

You have no idea how much I adore this movie. I've watched it at least 5-6 times, and anyone who knows me knows that 5-6 is ALOT for me. Plus, I have the soundtrack going constantly...

Easily the best movie-musical of modern times.

Angra 12-24-2008 06:39 PM

"Gran Torino" 7-8/10

A good movie is a good movie, but...

What is it with Clint and happy endings???

Early on in the movie you get a pretty clear picture of where things are going. But still, when it finally happens it's somehow disappointing. Beliavable, but disappointing.

The young priest bugged me as hell, coz unlike the rest, this character wasn't believable at all. What the hell where you thinking, Clint?

His own character was really funny tho.

Gran Torino - 8/10

Saw Yes Man the other day. I don't usually like comedies but this one had consistant laughs.

Today I just watched Black Christmas. It never gets old.

Phalanx 12-24-2008 10:29 PM

Started watching "disaster movie"...pretty much as expected, still not as bad as "date movie" but hardly among this years best is it?

I wanted to know - one of the references it made...I think someone here might've had the same character in their avatar. The Whalberg-lookin' guy from MAD TV that seems to have about 20 parts in this, in one scene was a dude with long-ish brown hair (same as the guy in the avatar...) and another guy is about to "prank" someone that's asleep, he says he's got a better idea, and shoots him up-close in the head with what looks like some kind've air gun?
What's the movie they're referencing there?

Yes, much.

Geddy 12-25-2008 05:26 PM

The Dark Knight (2008) - 8.5/10.

Every Which Way But Loose (1978) - 8.5/10.

Smokey and the Bandit (1977) - 8/10.

Into the Wild (2007) - 9/10.

Phalanx 12-25-2008 07:03 PM

I liked the life aquatic...it was just a different kind of comedy.
That said, I hated that royal tenebaums shit.

Watched the rest of "disaster movie", it was pretty damn stupid but a fair bit better than the "whatever movies" of the last few years....doesn't say too much though.

Still wanna know - what's the movie with the middle aged, medium-long brown haired guy that presses something up against a guys forehead and it well, shoots him in the head?

I haven't seen Disaster Movie (nor do I have any desire to), but it sounds like Angra was right to me - HAS to be Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men.

Look familiar?

Badass movie, and easily one of the best of last year. Kinda surprised you haven't seen it - you really should check it out if you haven't.

Phalanx 12-25-2008 09:02 PM

Yeah, that's clearly who they were trying to do an impression of...and yes, the same guy I saw in the avatar. What is that, an air pump? ha.
Yeah haven't seen it, heard no end of it though, may check out soon.

Dante'sInferno 12-25-2008 09:20 PM

The Dark Knight.2 times.

The Mothman 12-25-2008 09:56 PM

Burn After Reading:
Fabulous movie. criminally underrated. hilarious.

Angra 12-26-2008 12:03 AM

"Bad Santa" 7-8/10

I mostly find Billy Bob's characters and the movies he's in quite boring. But I could't imagine any actor doing a better job for this character in Bad Santa. Hilarious.

The big mansion with the fat boy was by far the highlights for me. Both funny and touching at the same time and the dialogue between Billy and the fat kid was pure gold.

One of my most favorite movies. Anyone who loves it and has the same as their screenname, is okay in my books. Welcome to HDC.

We had some time in the afternoon so me and the wife popped in The Goonies, followed by Conan The Barbarian. Always a blast to watch those old favs.

I REALLY want to see this one... But I am also REALLY skeptical. Looks gorgeous, but seems a little SinCity-wannabe-ish

...

Watched Run Fatboy Run this afternoon.

I LOVE Simon Pegg and Dylan Moran (yay, Black Books!), but even they couldn't save this script. Moran was brilliant, over-the-top, and delightfully crass. Unfortunately, though he was a highlight, the comedy wasn't screwball enough to keep up with his energy.

Not really worth seeing.

2/5

ChronoGrl 12-26-2008 03:07 PM

Oh, I almost forgot... Christmas Eve we watched Kung Fu Panda. GORGEOUS animation. Really cute movie. And definitely some laugh-out-loud parts.

Seriously enjoyable. 3/5

Bah- Sin City was inspired by The Spirit.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, not really my kind of movie, but good none the less, not spectacular, but certainly good, some of the best makeup effects Ive ever seen however.

But if the movie version of Sin City hadn't been so successful, there's no chance in hell The Spirit would have been made. At the very least, it wouldn't have been made using the exact same digital technology.

The Dark Knight

My thoughts on this one should be pretty well known by now - this was only my 1st viewing since it left theatres, but it still isn't getting old. Everything about it is nigh on to perfect - especially Heath's Joker, of course.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

she is the only redeeming factor in the "scary movie" movies.

Benny and Joon (1993) - 9/10.

Great movie, probably my new favourite Johnny Depp film.

Yup. The Eisner stuff goes waaay back.
That said, I'm sure the movie came out not so much because of the currently running SPIRIT comic, but the success of the sin city film.

Yeah, back before Depp overacted EVERYTHING HE TOUCHED.
One of my personal favourites too, nice semi-chick-flick.

Ok, so I watched "Burn after Reading". It was funny, entertaining, but...the whole thing with the "no ending/up in the air" kind of annoys me, sure we got an explanation just no feeling of resolution.
It was a GOOD film though, and fun to watch.

I also watched, for the first time I've seen ANY, Phantasm.
I wouldn't really call it all that horror-ish, more a supernatural thriller.
But yeah...a pretty cool little film, I love horror offerings from around this time.
This movie does EERIE very well.
Nice soundtrack, even if a tad inspired by the exorcist
I'm glad I watched this, and I'll be checking out the sequels shortly.
If you've not yet seen it, and like films along the lines of "something wicked this way comes" and (not so much so) "invaders from mars", you'd probably get right into this one.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Wow...

At least, that's how I felt.

:D

Edward Scissorhand's less charming brother. :D

"I come in peace/Dark angel" 8/10

Still enjoyable to watch. Aged very gracefully.
