enjoyed this film ... until the very ending - which didnt ring true.
but up to that point i enjoyed it a lot ... jack black was appropriately restrained ... great performances from everyone.

I liked how subtle this one was, one of the better comedies I've seen in awhile. I got a kick outta the stores changing over from VHS to DVD and the death of the independently run stores theme. What didn't you like about the ending?

And. Wow.

Beautiful. Stunning. Touching.

To tell you the truth, when I heard that there was minimal writing and voicework, I was concerned that I'd be bored... But far from it.

I fully agree with The Penguin:

5/5 See it.

Definitely.
Incredible movie.

The Woods

Meh. Nothing special, but not completely awful. Not worth recommending at all, but if you happen to run across it on TV or something, I guess there are worse ways to kill a couple hours.

From Russia With Love

I said the same thing when I watched Dr. No a few days back: why in God's name have a waited so long to get into Bond movies? This one was beyond awesome...one of the coolest action movies I've seen in a long while.

*************SPOILERS **********************

i didnt think it was appropriate that there would be a neighbourhood full of people watching the film from the outside .. laughing ..etc

i know why they did it .. it just felt ill excecuted... (there wasnt anything to laugh at at that particular time for one thing .. just a guy in the hallway of a train)

I cant really explain it - it just didnt trasnition well to me.

it looked good ... it just didnt feel good. hard to explain.

i really liked danny glover in his role ..

definately funny in parts - but kind of shaky and uneven .. i thought it would flow better. I wasnt keen on the casting .. there werent any other strong characters except for the old chinese man.

on the other hand i was exhausted and kept dozing off .. could have set my expectations a little too high too....i'll have to give it another shot later.

I'm surprised at how many people liked Wall-e

I thought it was brilliant animation but the rest was mediocre at best. Nowhere near as good as most Pixar films, excluding Cars and A Bugs Life. It wasn't funny much and it dragged on for a long time. It was also incredibly predictable and I didn't care for any of the characters. I really wanted to enjoy it. Please, someone tell me what I missed that was so good, because as I said, I really want to enjoy it.

Phalanx 12-01-2008 04:31 AM

I heard cars was pretty shit...bugs life, that was ok though, not my favourite pixar film.
I think the deal with wall-e is how so little translated into so much through use of expression/emotion through a medium that you don't really think would have it...and, it looked pretty cool too.

Just rewatched "disturbing behaviour", for the first time in at least 4 years, caught it right at the beginning on tv and went with it.
I remember myself and the girl actually saw this movie at the cinema shortly after we met, probably round one of our first 5 "dates".
Funniest line? toss up between "slut...", and "what you lookin' at, retard?" ha.
A good watch, I still like it.

I watched it a couple days ago too. I didn't expect it to be great though. I wouldn't give it 'good' or 'bad'. I'd just say it was alright. I thought it was funny how they portrayed Bruce but I think it they could have made it a lot better. I guess its just mildly entertaining for Bruce Campbell fans.

WANTED

Not bad for a mindless action flick. Angelina Jolie looks horrible in it....WAY too skinny. I haven't read the comics this was based on but from what I hear.....It ain't nothing like it.

The book really wouldn't translate well to screen...one of the major bad guys is quite literally a walking pile of shit.

.

here's my pixar thoughts

i thought cars was shit. uninteresting, uninvolving.

i did enjoy bugs life .. i thought a lot of fun was had with the subject material (the life of insects) good voicework too.

monsters inc .. underappreciated and i cant understand why. i think its the finest kids film ever made.

toy story 1 and 2 ... great films

Finding nemo - gorgeous animation - typical pedestrian story

Wall-E - fantastic. gorgeous animation and a story that exceeded my expectations. the horrible ads led me to believe that this movie would be cutsy-pie garbage - but it wasnt .

Dante'sInferno 12-01-2008 08:58 AM

Rambo.......

Vodstok 12-01-2008 01:20 PM

Tinker Bell

I might be getting soft, but I was pleasently surprised. Not your typical "Disney is trying to make a few bucks off of an old idea". Some thought went into it, some of it was genuinely funny, and on the whole, it was pretty creativee. They even tie it in to Peter Pan.

Dont give me any shit about it, even if I didnt have a 3 year old girl, my wife likes fairies and Tinker Bell specifically, so i would have seen it anyway.

Here are my Pixar thoughts: :p

Cars - I had very low expectations but found it charming and actually pretty amusing toward the end. Cliched story, but well done and enjoyable.

Bug's Life - It was Ok. Cute. I agree - Good voicework, but not really memorable as a whole.

Monsters Inc. - Overrated and I can't understand why. I thought that the story was insipid and a waste of a great concept.

Toy Story 1 and 2 - Agreed. Brilliant films. And Toy Story 2 is possibly one of the best sequels in film history. Seriously.

Finding Nemo - I agree whole-heartedly with Urge here: gorgeous animation - typical pedestrian story

Hunger(2008)

The story of the last six weeks in the life of Bobby Sands...the Irish republican hunger striker; the film showcase life inside the maze prison and what the prisoners did to try and win political status.

Slow, boring & there was nothing entertaining but it's quite a powerful film indeed. The tortures to the prisoners were brutal and the shocking thing was the entire hunger strike part shown on a horrifying way.

Worth a watch.

Pretty cool Ruggero Deodato flick about a dude who loses it after a rare disease takes hold of his body. Kinda dragged towards the end but I enjoyed it.

Kung Fu Panda...it was adorable. It reminded me a lot of Star Wars actually, but set in China with cute animals instead of space creatures.

I've actually read a lot of people like this one...maybe one day, yknow if I have a girl, I'll get 'round to watching it.
For now, "Hook" is my go to for Peter Pan movies...that said, never saw the one from just a few years back.

star kid - very passable kiddie film

People Under the Stairs.

Still lots of bizarre fun.

There appears to be one of the people who's mask didn't fit very well, because in a couple of scenes you can see the back where the mask doesn't come together.

Not likely. Sorry to disappoint you, I know you had your heart set on a rendesvous, but i am happily married to an attractive busty woman.

I'm not gay. Not that there is anything wrong with it. but I'm not. My wife is hot.

And I like Tinker Bell.

you so claaaazy !!!

ok .. the glove has been dropped.

here's why i personally think monsters inc is the best kids movie ever made.

(and let me first say that i am NOT a fan of Billy Crystal or John Goodman - to me - neither of them transitioned well to film .. i still see them as second rate TV actors - so by all rights i shouldn't like this film as much as i do)

1) the animation is gorgeous and imaginative. the monster characters are really well done. the 'doors' sequence was incredible

2) a lot of fun animation in jokes to keep the adults amused

3) the disney formula of killing a parent/sibling for easy emotional buy-in was abandoned. (see lion king/nemo/every other fucking Disney film) NOBODY HAD TO DIE !

4) the story was BRILLIANT ... wow Chrono - here we disagree the most. Maybe its because i have a kid but to me this film is the smartest, most effective, and most entertaining way of showing kids there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark i've ever seen in my lifetime. The monsters are more afraid of you than you are of them ?? brilliant !! Add some adventure thanks to a bad apple ... and i think you have a flawless story - and the resolution was fantastic as well ... both the fate of the bad guy and the new form of power. (laughter is more powerful that fear .... )
And it did it without being sucky.

5) I'm a sucker for a bittersweet ending and i hate cheesy manipulative tear jerking disney bullshit - but the way this film ends - gets me in the heart every time ... subtle and touching as hell.

honestly - its one of the few movies i feel so strong about that i cant get my head around anyone not liking that. i'm usually far more impartial than that.

but if you consider this film overrated - then you're only talking about me - because the general public really paid no mind to this film ... proving again that the lowest common denominator is always satisfied with the same hamfisted bullshit formula over and over again.

kill kids parent ... kid grows through adversity and becomes a strong man/woman. yahoo ....

A silly, endearing gift to Campbell's fans.
