The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972)

Excellent film- hilarious. I'll take this over Wes Anderson's drivel any day of the week.

SamCostello 10-26-2008 10:26 AM

This week, I saw:

The Shining – Hadn’t seen this is years. Just as cool and atmospheric and scary as ever.

Epitaph – A Korean ghost story about a haunted hospital. A few good scenes, but it went on too long, really.

Candyman – Hadn’t seen this until this week. Not a classic, really, and not all that scary, but it had some pretty nice moments.

W. Great movie. Go see it if you like Oliver Stone (who doesn't?) 8/10.

phantomstranger 10-26-2008 03:58 PM

Today is Oct 26. On this day in 1881 was the legendary Gunfight at the OK Corral. To commemorate this historic I'll be watching the following movies:

"Gunfight At The OK Corral" (1957)- Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas
"Hour Of The Gun" (1967)- James Garner
"Tombstone" (1993)- Kurt Russell, Sam Elliott

Inferno

Children of the Corn

Dark Fields (2006) - absolutely horrible

The Flayed One 10-26-2008 06:17 PM

Schramm.

Better than I thought it was going to be.

Freebird: The Movie

Totally blew me away. Those guys totally kill! Great live footage.

No Apologies

Something to offend everyone! Completely un PC funny as fuck live show from Andrew Dice Clay.

Disease 10-27-2008 04:53 AM

Burn after Reading

Great idea to follow up No Country For Old Men with a comedy. Definatley not the funiest movie they have ever made, but it was very entertaining.

7/10

Tarantula (1955)

I'm really getting into these old school sci-fi flicks...I've always liked them, but haven't really watched many until recently.

This one's a little overlong, and John Agar is a dirtbag, but the effects were super cool and the plot had a little bit of everything. Not one of my favourites, but I enjoyed it for sure.

Saw III + IV

Hopefully going to see the new one this week, so I wanted to refresh myself.

Throughly enjoyed both of 'em this time around - IV makes a hell of a lot more sense when you watch it with III still fresh in your mind.

I don't care what anyone says: these are easily some of the best horror flicks to come along in modern times, and I really hope that #5 carries on the quality.

Over the weekend....

Otis ~ for the most part, entertaining as hell, though not for everyone. And I liked the soundtrack.

P2 ~ surprisingly enough, I LIKED this movie. I wasn't expecting that much, and yes, this kind of thing has been done to death.....but it was done well, I thought. Though I still don't find Wes Bentley all that frightening....

Day of the Dead (remake) ~ I really shouldn't have bothered.....

Diary of the Dead ~ just so disappointing. The characters annoyed the hell out of me. I'm pretty sure I would knocked that guy out with his own camera......:p And I found it to be a bit heavy-handed.

You know, I've never seen this but I've heard nothing but excellent things about it. I better get on it.

Sick_As_Fuck 10-27-2008 11:35 AM

Was pleasantly surprised to see Midnight Meat Train on Fear Net so I immediately watched it. Loved it, too. Fuck Lionsgate for screwing over Barker. I would've loved to see this in the theatre.

B+, maybe even an A-.

Kwaiden is brilliant in my opinion, one of my favorites to watch around Halloween.

Return, If you thought Tarantula was ok you MIGHT want to check out The Spiders by Fritz Lang... damn cool film.

I'll keep an eye out for it :)

Gone But Not Forgotten (mid 90's- more suspense than horror-novel was better)
Requiem For A Dream (blew my mind and well, it was an excellent movie- I thought Less Than Zero was disturbing- I've never seen anything like Requiem)
Girl, Interrupted (not really an accurate portrayal of that diagnosis but it was ok)

ZombieGuy 10-27-2008 12:23 PM

Blockbuster Run

Creepshow

I love George Romero films, and this is no exception. Super campy and cheese, but thats what makes it good.

Jacob's Ladder

Predictable and not very scary, but interesting and entertaining.

The Mothman Prophecies

Better than I would have expected. It scared the shit out of my girlfriend.

Rosemary's Baby

Slow... Boring... It seems like you sit through the whole movie waiting for the climax, but it never happens.

Kairo(Pulse)

I only half watched it, which for a film with subtitles is a bad idea.

I saw Jacob's Ladder but I might have been drunk. Perhaps I should watch it again. I loved The Mothman Prophecies. Rosemary's Baby couldn't keep my interest. I haven't seen Creepshow or Pulse.

Wow- gotta disagree with you here! One of the most thrilling endings in horror history, and made that way because of an immaculate build-up.

Agree. Otis is a nice comedy and P2 was one of the few decent horror thrillers of 2007.
Have you saw Zombie Diaries (2006)? I think that was even better than Diary of the Dead.

No, I have never heard of it, is it worth a watch?

Hellboy. Not perfect but very good for a comic book movie. It's definitely worth a watch. 7.5/10.

Not rentable but you can at least give it a watch by borrowing from someone. I was just saying that it was better than Romero's Diary...that's all.:)

SOLD!!!!!!

Natural City- I was expecting what the description on Netflix said it was about. Although Blade Runner inspired was right on the money.
What is really is about was a so-so asian sci-fi movie. Needed more back story, I got caught up with the storyline almost halfway through.

Zebraman- I never in a million years thought I'd be rooting for a middle-aged schoole teacher in a zebra outfit.
Adorable, sweet, at times funny and heartbreaking. The scene where Ichikawa talks to his son who just found out his geeky embarrassing dad is really a superhero and is asked if he thinks his dad can fly...almost too hard to watch. It was loaded with emotion even though there is very little dialog between father and son. I thought the Made in USA scene was ironic.

The Red Shoes- spooky, but I was expecting more and totally expecting the ending. I wonder how long it will take for this one to be re-made if it already isn't:rolleyes:

Hard Candy- Jesus, what can I say about this one?
I wish, hope and prey every pedophile had a little alone time with Hayley....
This movie BLEW ME AWAY
I think any female that has gone through sexual abuse should watch this as therapy.
It not something I would study like a manual-few people are smart enough to pull anything off that smooth.
It really hits the core of what abused girls would want to do,what we have fantasied about and something medical science in duality with the criminal system should serious look into as a cure for pedophilia- not the rope solution- the OTHER THING, just to make clear.

neverending 10-28-2008 05:21 AM

Glad to hear somebody else watched Zebraman and enjoyed it!

hammerfan 10-28-2008 08:58 AM

Black Sabbath - just finished watching it on Netflix. Excellent movie, but of course I'm biased when it comes to Boris Karloff.

Phalanx 10-28-2008 09:18 AM

Saw V - Nothing too bad to say at all, I liked the changes in style to a point and the storyline was a little more cohesive than the last couple of films. I still preferred 1 & 2 more, but this one was better than 3 (which is what I wanted) and just beneath 4.
I don't know why, if it was a directorial difference in this one or what but personally I didn't really find the traps and how they played out to be all that wince inducing...could just be that the trap bit is waring thin.
Some interesting ideas and a decent storyline.
Not the best in the series, but definately not the worst.

Mirrors - Not bad, not great. Nice effects. A little confusing. Good atmosphere in certain scenes. Not overly impressed but got through to the end.
