One thing which I can't stand, is lousy CGI. As soon as that was evident in the 15-minute mark, "Stop" button. Too bad, because I thought the beginning had potential.

Intriguing film. Always fascinating to see anything about dopplegangers, and in this dystopian setting, it was more effective. Darkly humorous + excellent characters made this one a good watch. Definitely recommended if you have the patience for the male lead.

EVIL ED 1997

A Swedish horror comedy about a mild mannered film editor sequestered in a house to edit a horror film called "Loose Limbs". His orderly life quickly falls into disarray as the influence of the movie overcomes him.

Funny, overdone slicing and dicing and recognizable parodies of popular horror films.

I love that film, so cheesy and over the top.

Very effective low-budget film, with a central theme of revenge. What's unique is how it's been made - it plays out like a one-man show almost all through, yet it's pretty gripping, tense and taut. Not like the over-crowded, super-loud action blockbusters we know of, but a grim, pacy thriller.

Watch it, folks. Specially Ferox, Elvis, Angra, Roshiq, Chrono, etc.

I am VERY excited about that and actually have it at home from Netflix. Can't wait to watch it. :danger:

The Prestige (2006)

http://static.rogerebert.com/uploads...ubhTsbFY6N.jpg

Interesting though at times confusing (it's Christopher Nolan, what do you expect) period piece on two magicians competing against each other for love, fame, etc. I liked the Victorian scenery and Hugh Jackman is good (definitely outshines Christian Bale). From a horror perspective, there are many startles and surprises but this is primarily for science-fiction, magic, and occult aficionados. "Man's reach exceeds his imagination!"

Godzilla (2014)
Not perfect but a good movie and worth watching.
Anyone else noticed the wink to Mothra?
I'll post my other remarks in the Godzilla topic because they contain spoilers.

Drags in some parts and runs a bit longer than ideal time, but a fun watch nevertheless. They should have stuck to 3 factions instead of 5, though.

Big Ass Spider! (2013)

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps8a8b4243.jpg

It's alright for what it was or what it intended to be. A time passing, fun B-movie about Giant "Martian" Spider...at least somewhat better than Sy-fy or other studio's ridiculous giant or flying shark movies.

What an experience on utterly gorgeous 1080p Hi-Def! Truly remarkable and memorable. It's the single biggest CGI-ified film ever made till date, and, I dare say, MUCH more entertaining than all the Transformers films combined.

I have a feeling Pratt will become a star after this blockbuster. Heck, his next starring role will be in Jurassic World.

Carrie '13 -- 8/10: It's one of the better modern remakes. The main bitch with the fake tan was casting perfection.

Carrie '76 -- 9/10: The atmosphere here far surpasses that of the remake, but the movie does drag a tad.

Deliver Us from Evil -- 5/10: There simply is not enough horror on display to appease my horror sensibilities.

Pretty scary movie. There are quite a few jump scares, but most of them are pretty effective. There was almost no blood or gore, and I liked the creepy atmosphere of the movie, mostly coming from the tapes. It also had a good twist ending. The one problem I had was that some aspects were a bit like The Ring, like the tapes causing whoever watches it to die, but it was definitely different.

Thanks to Baron Von Marlon and his questions for making me watch this again. Yes, I got my ass kicked officially, yet again.

Love this film, despite any/all faults it has. Gojira rules!

Re-watches, both of them. I like both but still don't get where the beginning of the loop of TimeCrimes starts from. Paradoxical.

This is probably a movie for you, V.

Thanks! I quite liked it. ::cool::

Decent little revenge-ful tale. Leslie Mann was a blast, Cameron Diaz looked older by the day, and Kate Upton's boobs had me riveted. Some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments dot this womanly tale. I bet Chrono and Hammer would love it.

A lesson for you, Angra - stop cheating on your women. ::big grin::

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

4/10

(sigh) Ever go back to watch a movie you loved when you were a kid, and the film was so kiddie, you realized you can't go back and recapture that unique enjoyment? That's what I felt like watching Spiderman 2 2014. To me, it was so simple, cliche and without any purpose (except for one or two brief moments), that it escaped my enjoyment. But maybe if I was 7 years old?

There's kids' cartoons that had more depth. It's void of all fun sci-fi/fantasy comicbook details, skipped intrigue and plot twists, for the most part skipped deeper character development... to rely solely on action, FX and actors. Only Sally Field could make something of the lack of character material. The action & FX was merely average. It all left me with the impression that this is the lowbrow entertainment expected to suffice today's film audiences.

Luckily, it's just films like Spiderman 2 2014, which I contrast with very effective depth of meaning within X-Men: Days of Future Past, especially in the areas of addiction and self-sacrifice.

And the logic in Spiderman 2 2014... the first time Spiderman brings down Electro, the NY police have him surrounded and surely arrest him; but next we see Eletro is in the clutches of Oscorp. This illogical outcome is never explained. Is this really passable nowadays?

Electro got watered down and passed out. I think it's a weakness of him.
Since Oscorp is a shady company, I assume they arranged it so Electro was brought to one of their facilities.

I agree with your comparison to the cartoons. They have more depth indeed.
I have a similar problem with Transformers, I like the old cartoons but I don't like the movies.

I watched Dead Silence tonight. I think I have enjoyed watching this a few times now because I think that ventriloquist dolls are creepy (exception: Jeff Dunham's collection) and they really give me the chills! The acting was silly to me but the dolls steal the show! I think they did an excellent job on Mary Shaw, she creeped me out!!
