The Signal 5/10

This movie started off pretty good but then it got a little dull and dumb to me.

Dante'sInferno 05-30-2008 06:34 PM

Fort Apache..

Automaton Transfusion

This one was disappointing, but I guess I was expecting something closer to Evil. The ending was horrible, the acting was bad, and the story seemed like a script that a decent writer tossed out. There were some great gore scenes though and that alone made it bearable until the end.

I Am Legend

Not bad, I didn't expect it to be as good as it was and although it wasn't a mindblowing film I think I'll end up buying it. I liked it.

Not as much for the story as for all the colorful characters and perormances.

Ben Kingsley Should've got the Oscar for that performance..

absolutely.
your review more or less summed up my feelings as well.

Larger Than Life ... older Bill Murray film where he plays a motivational speaker who inherits an elephant. Actually pretty funny.

Rambo ... holy shit this movie is nuts. i've never seen gore like this - there's enough for 10 war movies and 20 slashers combined.

Did you watch it on the "big screen"? I notice CGI bits are more noticable on that.

yeah - there were a couple of bits that i expected had to be CGI but everything was cut so fast it still looked pretty damn good (if 'good' is the word for the sight of guys getting blown to shreds)

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane

Unexpected and original for a teenage slasher movie. I enjoyed it, even though I'm still a bit confused. This calls for a second viewing...

EDIT: And a third. It's really starting to grow on me. It's a very atmospheric movie (the soundtrack is perfect in helping capture the mood) that gets you thinking, which says a lot when it comes to the slashers being made nowadays.

if.... (1968)

surreal, allegorical depiction of a shifting society in the form of a boys' school.
keeps you thinking a while after it's over, and remains quite effective even today.
recommended to alky, __v__, neverending, rod, and anyone that might like a slow-paced but engaging deep-thinker.

Been really wanting to check that one out for a long time....Criterion did a release of it recently, did they not?

The Flamingo Kid - old favorite - still delivers

Diary of the Dead - thought it was quite good - wasnt crazy about a couple of the characters but i thought it flowed well.

Inside – Basically Misery, except the writer is replaced by a kid who looks exactly like the kid of a couple whose son died. A good concept indeed, but slow pacing and only OK actors lead me to turn it off early.

It was my second time viewing, but the first time I was bushed and didn't make it till the end. Overall, I liked it. I thought was very well made, the special effects were great all things considered. It was on IFC, and I was wondering, how are the extras on the Criterion release?

Dead End Drive-In

Low budget Australian film from the 80's, set in the (then) not-too-distant future. The protagonist and his girlfriend visit the drive-ins one night, and their wheels are stolen by the police. This effectively traps them in the drive-in (because the fences are electrified and the only road out is forbidden for pedestrian traffic). They find that there is a society of people living "trapped" in the drive-in.

Not the greatest film, but at least it was original.

pretty good. check them out: http://criterion.com/asp/release.asp?id=134
the version in which william s. borroughs narrates the entire film is pretty cool, except they didn't clean up that version, so it doesn't look very good.

Urban Legends: Bloody Mary...

OH MY GOD. How did this get made? Predictable (and I don't mean you can guess one or two things minutes before they happen, I mean... you can guess the ENTIRE film within the first five minutes...) and unoriginal (how many bloody mary films have there been???) This adds nothing to the table except for the stuck-in-the-70's Gracie, some Pam Grier references, and a likable title theme. Horrible mess.

Ugh, how about when the boy is like "Hey black lady, let us in" and she doesn't, then he calls to her in some retard ghetto slang and she comes back? Worst part of that whole mess.

TMNT

Just a little too "for teenagers" for me to love, but it was pretty good. the naimation was great, and the raphael/leonardo roof scene was beautiful, probably the best rain i have seen in CGI.
