He thinks not. I could get into the whole discussion, but it's nothing that hasn't already been discussed to death on imdb and other boards.

Michael Clayton: Excellent. great performances, great ending.

The Painted Veil: Naomi Watts and Edward Norton, Again, great acting, good movie.

Happily Ne'er after: Sigh.... It had Andy Dick in the cast, do i really need to elaborate?

I will anyway. I had never heard anythign good about it, but figured it might be at least so-so...

Man, Pixar set the bar way to high when they introduced cgi only movies. this thing SUCKED. Sigourney weaver sounded like she just showed up and belted out her lines, Sarah Micjelle Gellar and Freddy Prinze Jr have all the voice charisma of a toad that has been run over by a car, and Andy Dick is, well, Andy Dick. hearin ghim is jarring and pulls you out of whatever fantasy they might have created on the screen.

On the other hand, it reminded me of the ass-whupping john lovitts put on him last year, and that brought a smile to my face :)

Mr. Brooks

Enjoyed the hell out of it. Even with the expectations I had from all the good reviews, it wasn't the slightest bit disappointing.

novakru 05-12-2008 12:52 PM

Slipstream- I was expecting amazing things from this Anthony Hopkins flick...I had to stop in the middle or my brain would explode from the flicker scene over scene BS.
Two Thumbs and middle fingers Down:eek:

Broken English- I was expecting to hate this movie and found myself pulled into Nora's world completely and felt every nervous bravado and small breakdown and didn't want to leave when she finally ended up in Paris with a great love or at the very least an interesting love.
This film slowly moves the soul without pulling the emotional blackmail strings most indie dramas like to shove at us.
Parker Posey once again proves why she is one of my favorite actors':)

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas- 6.5/10

Great animated flick. Great sea monster at the beginning.

Didn't live up to what I was hoping for. Not bad at all, though.

May not have been the expectations. I wasn't really in the mood for it, just watched cause I was bored and had nothing else new. Got distracted a few times as well.

Last watch=The Prestige

THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY

Poetic, lyrical, brilliant. The camera is fluid, the acting is honest and the story is seemless. I liked the book, I LOVE the film. Schnabel's best film work to date...and I am now expecting briliiance from him every time out. Add Emannuelle Siegner's greatness in both her acting and her song on the soundtrack (and the fact that she's the lead in GIALLO) and it's damn near perfect.

And when they sew his eyelid shut... harrowing!!!!
9.5/10

To the Devil, a Daughter (1976)

>>: C

An American Crime (2007)

An innocent teenage girl (acted by Ellen page) locked in the basement and then tortured (so...recommended for Disease:D ) by a crazy woman and her children, even sometimes the neighborhood friends of her kids also joined with them.....based on a actual events that is quite similar to Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door. I'm not sure but perhaps both films seems like inspired by the same true story.

Play Misty For Me.
Pretty effective chilling film about obsession.

Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1922)

Incredible. Completely absorbing.

newb 05-13-2008 08:51 AM

The Cottage....starts off as a kidnap/comedy type flic...works its way into slasher/comedy....not a bad effort at all....I laughed a few times and there was some decent kills as well. 7/10

How was it compare to The Girl Next Door?

I think The Girl Next Door was more hard-hitting and below the belt, and had some really outstanding performances.

An American Crime was decent...meh, with plenty of soft blows.

Return of the Living Dead (with zombie subtitles)

I just with The Girl Next door had more meat, it stayed in the same place story wise for so long that it didn't really work for me. It was vicious though, and even though I didn't love it I wouldn't feel bad suggesting it to people looking for a film like that.

You would think with quotes like, "Go fumigate yourself crap-head!" and "Sex, guts, blood, and all men are mothers!" this movie would have been better. Even a decapitation could save this H.G. Lewis "classic" from the pits of mediocrity. I didn't hate it, but it's not on my list of must see films.

Had it playing while I was doing a little work. I was paying attention, though, and it's a decent way to take up some time.

Almost rented it. It looks like it'd be similar to Red Eye.... Is it?

Ginger Snaps 2. I've owned it on vhs for a few years now but had no vcr. I finally got around to it and was actually very impressed. Well written, if not for a few jokes that seemed dated. great acting and soundtrack/score. Loved the ending and little bits of Canadiana.

I'd say it's more like Captivity. Better, though.

Iron Man in the theater... Walk Hard, and Sweeney Todd tonight on dvd

jenna26 05-13-2008 09:37 PM

I Am Legend ~ first of all, I LOVE the story, so probably not a big shock that I didn't care much for this movie. It started off very promising....the first hour or so was pretty good....but unfortunately the CGI kind of ruined it for me.

We Own the Night ~ it wasn't bad....but I was a bit disappointed. The acting was fine, the story was fine....but it just wasn't very memorable. Not a terrible way to pass a couple of hours though.

Seven Samurai (1954)

I thought I am Legend was an alright film as far as action films go. But story can be so much more - and that is evident by some of the earlier adaptations.

The action was "big" and "spectacular" but the film, the characters didn't have the same depth and charm as in, say, The Omega Man.

So yeah, as a SFX spectacular it was ok, as a story it was pretty forgettable.

yeah i was really taken with that one as well.

it could have been really easy to have made a sloppy job of this but the filmmakers kept their focus on the detail and had a great cast to work with.

Dreamcatcher

pretty terrible, but kept me entertained for the simple fact that it was completely nuts.
