very interesting film, centering on one mans quest to reintroduce the sturgeon to the lakes - in an attempt to preserve them from extinction.
Also took a look at the Bald Eagle.

a look at how the lakes have historically been abused by man, and what we have to do to remedy the situation.

wait......is there some kind of monster in the lake.....does the bald eagle rip people open with his talons......I don't get it?!?!?!

i'm the same ..

but the polluting here was done on an epic scale .. i cant even remember the amout of raw sewage that gets dumped in the lakes every time there is a backup in the sewers

or all the pesticides and poisons that run off into the lakes ..

they mentioned there were something like 65 hot spots still in the lakes - where the toxic content is up to 50% in the silt at the bottom of these areas..

it showed a family of eagles - the babies didnt survive because they were fed mostly lamprey eel .. which are bottom feeders in one of the hot spots ..

they also said there were abouit 180 foriegn species of marine life that had been introduced to the great lakes .. some intentionally - but most not - as a result of being in the bilge water of the ocean going ships ..

most of these things change the environments they invade - and not for the better.

ya kinda made my whole "throwing paper out the car" seem a bit trivial.

it's a hell of a lot smaller than that last one - which was over twice as big as i've ever seen on any board - hands down :D

there should have been some kind of prize for that !

The Incredible Melting Man

The Hottie and the Nottie:
This was a decent watch. It was just mindless fun. It wouldn't have been shit on nearly as much if it did not star Paris Hilton. My fuck, she can't even act at a basic level. HOW DOES SHE GET ROLES? Oh wait, I know...

Teeth:
Not as perfect as I had hoped it to be, but it was quite good. I would have preferred an all out cheese-fest but it stayed pretty tame. My favourite scene being the Doctor's Office scene. A sense of dread, and a tone of hilarity. Just so much fun.

The Cottage:
I CANNOT SAY THIS ENOUGH. If you are a big fan of Shaun of the Dead, you have to see this... asap! It's a UK-based horror/comedy. The set-up takes a while, but once you get past it... wow. It's so funny! I don't usually find myself laughing this hard when corpses are being brutally hacked into bits. But I did. It's quite gory, too.

Inside:
See it. Now. One of the goriest films I've ever seen. And some really genuinely creepy moments. "You're husband's not asleep, Sarah. He's dead." BRRR.

Diary of the Dead:
Didn't do it for me. HATED the camera guy, totally unlikable. The characters all had REALLY scripted lines, and would turn to the camera in a prolific pose... and act all high-and-mighty. Famous quotes left right and center, and so on. THAT totally ruined the "realistic" camera style. There were times when I thought the switching between cameras ruined it, as well. It didn't feel like it was handheld enough, y'know? AND WHY DID ROMERO USE CGI BLOOD? D: But it had a good message behind it. Not as deserving as the hype it's getting, IMO.

[REC]:
Amazing. One of the best "realistic" handheld camera movies. It FELT like it was real. The actors did an amazing job. And this movie genuinely creeped me out like no movie has in a LONG time.

Wow.... ouch....pretty brutal to watch if you're a dude. Seriously though, it's a good film. Jess Weixler did a fine job in her role.

I have to say. The film has one of the best endings, ever. Especially for horror.

Them (Ils)

Thanks for the suggestion CG, very suspenseful and very well done. I'll probably watch this one again when Strangers comes out, seems like a fitting double feature. Pretty intense ending too, although the last minute or two seemed unnecessary.

-wow. i really enjoyed this one. really funny, and a solid story.

the corndog man (1999)

-could possibly be the most irritating movie i've ever watched. really fun to make fun of, though.

Hollow Man. Some very good effects, it was OK, but IMO may have been better if there was more of Bacon's invisible character out in public, and less of him in the laboratory.

Roderick Usher 05-10-2008 02:17 PM

HAIRSPRAY (the musical)

Not as good as John Water's original, but fun and campy and it still retains a slightly trashy edge to it. The music is better than most musicals I've seen recently. John Travolta is creepy and wierd in drag, but I love his Baltimore accent - he over did it a bit, but got the spirit of it down pat. James Masden continues to surprise me... he has mad fucking skills.

If you don't like musicals, it won't convert you. But it's a hell of a lot more fun and entertaining than DREAMGIRLS and the music is beter the SWEENEY TODD.

7.5/10
