"Vera Cruz" (1954)
-Gary Cooper, Burt Lancaster

After the American Civil War, mercenaries travel to Mexico to fight in their revolution for money. The former soldier and gentleman Benjamin Trane meets the gunman and killer Joe Erin and his men, and together they are hired by the Emperor Maximillian and the Marquis Henri de Labordere to escort the Countess Marie Duvarre to the harbor of Vera Cruz. Ben and Erin find that the stagecoach is transporting US$ 3,000,000.00 in gold hidden below the seat and they scheme to steal it. Along their journey, betrayals and incidents happen changing their initial intentions.

Great movie for western fans. Fast paced action, terrific acting and a good plot make this one enjoyable film. I loved it.

The Egg and I

this is the old film that launched Ma and Pa Kettle

fun movie - i suspect this was where Green Acres drew their inspiration from.
(city folk trying their hand at being country folk)

my favorite scene : the community dance where the wife was forced to dance with every inbred hillbilly at the shindig - a dance scene straight out of the addams family.

Pa Kettle is one of my favorite cinematic figures.

"i'm gonna fix that......... one of these days"

Once

Loved it. The music is outstanding, the actors are wonderful...its a little bit lacking in plot, but more than makes up for it elsewhere.

Now that's a powerful performance if I've ever seen one.

Doomsday.
Great film. A rich homage to the actioners of the 1980s.

Akira

Can't believe that they want to make this classic into a live action film... and with Leo DiCaprio ??

All the requisite needed lately. They weren't really bad or anything, just not stuff I'd normally watch all night.

while i fear what would be done with this one, DiCaprio hasnt made a bad movie in 5+ years. Dont forget, he got Scorcese his first oscar.

He certainly is a very good actor - but can you really see him playing anyone in Akira?

hellfire1 04-23-2008 05:21 PM

^^ Exactly. And Vod... we all know why Scorsese finally got his Oscar, and it ain't cause of DiCaprio. :p

Honestly, either Kaneda or Tetsuo, although he plays the dark, broken characters well, so i would lean toward Tetsuo.

I have the feeling I'm goingto be alone in thinking this would be cool....:D

Yes he has and Scorcese hasn't made anything decent for fuckin' ages either.
Bringing Out The Dead had its moments but it was still pretty disappointing.

Last watched: 1408

I avoided it for awhile but after enjoying The Mist I decided to give it a spin. Had a few creepy scenes but just really didn't work for me. Might give it another go sometime and see if it grows on me.

I would strongly disagree with that. He's still directing more good films than anybody else in America. The Departed, Bringing Out the Dead, Shine A Light, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, and No Direction Home all add up to a pretty impressive couple of years...especially for a 65 year old who's been making good movies for forty years.

He literally hasn't had a critically bad movie since the turn of the millenium- all certified fresh on rottentomatoes.com. It would be a challenge to name any other director who can even get two in a row.

I guess Eastwood has (I'm assuming that's who you're thinking). But still...the point is his last five films have all been golden; three were nominated for Best Picture- one won. I think the man's doing alright.

Mystic River to Letters from Iwo Jima, gives you four in a row. Three were nominated for best picture, one won, and two picked up multiple acting awards. And I definitely agree that Scorsese's doing well.

Vodstok 04-24-2008 04:22 AM

3 off that list of scorcese films starred DiCaprio, and they were all excellent. And the aviator was amazing, Kate Blanchette was Katherine Hepburn. All around great movie with a great cast.

Sorry to stay off topic, i havent watched anything but south park and iron chef for about a week.
