I have the DVD but havent got around to watching it yet.

With THAT recommendation, it is making into my weekend-watch list. :)

The Ruins

I was too tired to drop this review in last night. I thought it was going to be another lame "kids get in over thier head in a foreign country" movie. It certainly fits that description, but little about this film is lame or even typical.

There is a raw, unflinching air about it that is really effective and creepy. Best theatrical horror so far this year (not much of a compliment, I know) and absolutely worth seeing in the theaters because...

- it's not a remake!
- it's from a scary book and is pretty damned faithful
- self-surgery
- a fresh environment... Mayan ruins are awesome and it's about time they figure in a horror flick
- Jenna Malone, she's always great!

not brilliant, but fun and creepy and dark.
7.5/10

Thats a hell of a transition.

Death Sentence

the ending was worth the wait. raw, cold-blooded, enrelenting.
thats what a revenge movie should be like. the hero gets mad, goes nuts, and fucks up everybody and a furious look on his face.

wasnt as cool as Wake Of Death, which is hard to top, but it was pretty good.

Oh yeah. This is a slow movie, it is really for people who like looking at 60's furniture and cars, and movies that are mostly filmed in one house that is made to look like several houses. This one's not for everyone--it's not even for most people who like Lewis' gore movies!

Posher778 04-04-2008 07:12 PM

Michael Clayton- 7/10

It was good. It was surely the weakest of the best picture nominees but I really liked it. It dragged slightly at times but it was pretty compelling, and an overall nice thriller, with a cool ending. I'll be buying it.

My Stepmother is an Alien

hadnt seen it since it first came out ... a bit sloppy (typical richard benjamin direction) but some good laughs.

and bassinger was smokin'

Despare 04-04-2008 09:34 PM

By the way, as far as The Thirst goes, it was alright until about an hour in when you could see a giant clear tube taped to the actors back and then could easily watch it fill with blood and squirt onto the actress. Sloppy, and really took me out of it. I don't mind seeing a little mistake here and there but this was baaaaaaaad.

fucking armless bitch kept preventing the poor guy from getting any poon!

If you've ever seen a Nathan Schiff film you can catch plenty of stuff like that. there is a scene in one of his movies where a tube is clearly, clearly visible. i mean out in the open, and squiting fake blood from some dude.
but hey, they are just backyard films, so it only adds to the fun of it.

Sometimes I agree, it does make it fun, but with the direction of the movie and the potential it had I think it was simply lazy editing/special effects. I still liked the movie, TONS of gore and some nice music too, but it could have been better I think.

Anacondas (THFTBO)- 6/10

As cheesy and lame as it is... It's a damn fun monster movie.

jenna26 04-05-2008 10:03 AM

No Country for Old Men ~ outstanding movie. Javier Bardem is awesome, so is Josh Brolin. Loved it.

The Mist ~ loved this one as well, but what a heartbreaking ending. :( Really good, surprisingly good really.

The Mad Monk 04-05-2008 10:25 AM

The Watcher In The Woods, which was on television this afternoon.

It's a family-viewing PG type of film (from Disney - ! - 1980), but this film really creeped me out when I first saw it when I was a little kid, and from searching the Internet it seems that other people had a similar experience!

It was fun to see it again after all this time - of course, it's not scary anymore, the effects are dated, but some of the imagery has stuck in my mind and still comes across a little creepy. If any of you have seen it, you will probably remember the blindfolded girl in the mirror...

I think the shorts in this anthology range from ok to great and I particularly like "Poetic Justice".
