Was flipping around cable last night and came across "Deadfall" on the fear.net channel. It had a great cast..James Coburn, Michael Beihn,Nicholas Cage,Charlie Sheen....but the movie sucked balls....mostly because of Nicholas Cage's OVERACTING.

Jumper. Not that good.

With all the giallo talk in HDC recently, I dug out my Mario Bava Collection Vol 1 and treated myself to this beauty. Even after what...30-35 years of its release, its still an excellent visual treat.

Its a pretty impressive early Bava giallo, with all the traditional murder mystery angle. Hardcore fans might be a tad disappointed with the toned down gorific brutality and sexuality, but you have to admire Bava's brilliance in deftly handling the finer aspects of gialli film-making - the background score, the darkly tinted visuals, the perfect creepy settings...and the atmosphere. You will forget for a sec that its totally b/w, and just sit back and admire the genius of Bava, as he goes about this almost Hitchcock-ian tribute with the perfect ease of a master at work.

Heck...I have to agree with Elvis and admit that, between Argento and Bava, Bava definitely holds a slight edge.

Excellent sets! Need the second one also.

Recently watched
- Day of the Dead (remake 2008) - NOT ROMERO is all I have to say
- Automaton Transfusion - Almost better than the above but not by much

I am running out of good Zombie flicks to watch. Sigh.....

Mimic- 6.5/10

Always a fun watch, although it loses the fear level early on, which irritates me because it could've been so scary.

urgeok2 03-12-2008 05:33 PM

Swingers

one of those flicks i revisit at least once a year .. timeless movie.

chaibill 03-12-2008 09:59 PM

Black Sheep ---- loved it funny and great special fx but seemed a bit slow passed at times. Check it out if you get the chance.

First time experienced this beautiful masterpiece.

The Orphanage [El Orfanato]
(2007)

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/3...tover91qo3.jpg

Laura purchases her beloved childhood orphanage with dreams of restoring and reopening the long abandoned facility as a place for handicapped children. Once there, Laura discovers that the new environment awakens her sweet little adopted son Simón's imagination and one day Simón get missing...perhaps while he was just playing with his new invisible friends?!

A quality ghost story that we have been missing for a long time. Twists, tricks, atmosphere ..overall everything is superb and beautifully portrayed. It has all true potentials to easily alter & take a respectable place in any list of all time great horror movies. I think it'll definitely dominate in the HDC Oscar Awards for 2008-2009:)
Two thumbs up for Bayona.
Highly recommended to everyone who haven't seen this yet.

This is one of the last year's after dark horrorfeast movies, which they call "...films to die for"!~! Yeah, I wish I could die before watching this piece of crap:mad: ...poorly influenced by TCM.

Salo, or the 100 Days of Sodom (1975)
This is probably the hardest movie to watch that I've ever seen. It isn't like Cannibal Holocaust or Nekromantik in the fact that it is totally believable. Though it isn't a horror movie per say, it's one of the scariest films I've ever seen.

Gattaca.

Quite refreshing, very creative...and boosted by some really tremendous performances, neat direction and script and chic-perfect cinematography.

This has to be my 2nd favorite pure sci-fi after Blade Runner. A really powerful and touching flick. Highly recommended by me.

last thing i watched is some low budget thing called Rise of the Dead that was so riviting that i fell asleep 30 minutes into it.

2007 was a great year for horror .. there seems to be a lot of new interest in the genre which means more money and better quality productions.

horror fans arent starving anymore ... the low budget back yard poopers are harder for me to take these days.

this supasses Eraserhead as the most bizzare film i have ever seen. Extremely well done, especially for its time period, visually grasping.

7/10 is the lowest he can rate things, haven't you noticed? If Amelthea gives a movie a 7/10 that means it's rubbish. Not a knock about you Amalthea, in fact, it's refreshing that you can enjoy almost any movie so thoroughly.

He's a role model to movie-haters the world over.
