Definitely. It has a super hot female lead (makes for mouth-watering viewing ;) ), and a decent plot. The kill sequences arent great IMO, but not bad either.

Dont expect a Argento/Bava-esque atmosphere, and you will enjoy it.

Demon Knight was the best of the lot. I was rather disappointed with Bordello, and Ritual proved to be even more disappointing. Skip it if you dont have to watch it, Des.

Fool's Gold.

Could have been better, instead of following in the footsteps of Indy and POTC. Decent watch though.

Rating - ***

Death At A Funeral.

And this was supposed to be funny...how? A stale attempt at crude and bawdy humor, but falls considerably short of eliciting laughs. Eminently forgettable, but has its moments.

just got done watching a bucket of blood.

definitely one of my favorite corman films.
has a great vibe, plenty of atmosphere, and it's even funny.

House of Wax (1953)

Besides Price's performance, mostly everything in this movie is actually second rate when compared to its 1933 predecessor, Mystery of the Wax Museum. It does boast some genuine thrills, though, and has some truly fun sideshow horror effects.

GorePhobia 02-11-2008 12:31 PM

A History of Violence

I first went to see this at the movies when it came out with my brothers but they thought it was boring (we only stayed for the first ten minutes.) so we left and went to see Into the Blue. (OMFG horrible decision.)

So anyways I watched this again finally and boy is it amazing. I love the way it just comes out of no where and Viggo Mortensen just starts killing these people and stuff. Plus seeing Maria Bello's bush is well worth it. :)

The Eye [remake] ....why bother to remake a movie if your not gonna add anything new to give it a different edge.....don't bother...rent the original.

U23D---If you like U2 go see this if you can.

siorai 02-11-2008 01:35 PM

The Deaths of Ian Stone.

Starts off with an interesting concept of a guy being murdered each day and then waking up in a different life. Of course it's just Groundhog Day remade as a horror movie, but it sounded promising. Then you find out what's really going on and it's a steep, slippery slope of cheese. It's rather weak as far as the gore goes, the effects otherwise are pretty cool, and the acting is mediocre at best. I guess it's alright as a rental, but maybe only if someone else is paying for it. :p

I'm about to watch the remake of Day of the Dead. *sighs nervously* Wish me luck.

Where are you seeing the remake?

Can't be worse than Day of the Dead 2: Contagium...

There's a screener copy on a website I visit. I won't post it since I'm not sure about the rules here and movie sites and whatnot.

Anyway, the movie. Well, I could detract from all the negatives, which there are many of, and only speak on the positives. But there are none. In short: The zombies climb walls. Terrible film, I want to roll up a newspaper and slap the director and the writer on the nose.

Metropolis (1927)

This is only the second time I've seen this film- and it certainly will not be the last. The whole thing is a complete tour-de-force.

holy smokes, i love this film.

it's so visually stunning, and it features one of my favorite performances in cinema history- brigitte helm as the robot maria.

----------------------------------------------

powell and pressburger's black narcissus (1947)

a pretty powerful look at a convent buried deep in the himalayas as they, along with the surrounding community, deal with heavy emotions and a bit of psychosis, all of which become mixed and increase, resulting in a climax that comes off over-the-top and even frightening. the film begins well and ends strongly, but the middle seems to sag a bit.

definitely worth a watch, though.

John Rambo
The Breed
Black Hawk Down
Shoot 'Em Up (how hilarious is this movie ? in a good way though)

Holy shit! I was just telling my friend that that is one of my favorite performances. Period.

The fact that she goes from playing timid, innocent preacher to barbaric, looney robot is just mind-blowing...easily the most versatility any actor/actress had show thus far in cinema. Her jerky, sporadic movements are exquisite.

The Hound of the Baskervilles

GorePhobia 02-11-2008 09:54 PM

Rambo (2008)

I read all these reviews from people saying it was great and mindless and just exciting fun so I went in knowing it wasn't going to win any awards but it would be amazingly gory and fun and boy did it deliver. I loved every minute of it and the deaths were just DISGUSTING and I loved every minute of it.

couldn't have said it better myself.

au hasard balthazar
(1966)

comes off simple, but is truly very thick.
touching story of the lives of a donkey and his first owner, and the parallels between them.

On a recommendation, I actually watched Deadly End. It was an absolute struggle to Not shut the dvd off. Easily one of the worst excuses for a Horror Film I have ever punished myself with. Major Shitburger here.

The Abandoned

A bit slow, and sometimes confusing, but an interesting movie.

You sure they didn't mean Dead End (2003)? That's a decent horror flick, not the greatest though.

jenna26 02-12-2008 09:25 AM

Dark Ride ~ not terrible, but nothing special. Might have liked it better if I had never seen Funhouse.

I don't think so Despare. I may have to check out Dead End tho.

Gone Baby Gone....great directorial debut from Ben Affleck. A couple of minor plot holes but not enough to ruin the movie.

At least I do not feel as bad as massacre man, LOL. I thought TCMTB was going to be worse than it was. Not my favourite but not a total loss of time either!

Roma, cittą aperta (AKA Open City) (1945)

So powerful, and so humane. Rossellini is an expert at portraying real human beings, and his camerawork is intricate and precise.
