OK, so I have just wrapped up the final 2 films for the 8 Films to Die for HORRORFEST.

And what I have to say is WOW and WOW... But for two different reasons...

Nightmare Man

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...-man_small.gif

There's B-Grade horror and then there's b-grade horror. This film is about a woman who receives a creepy mask and then thinks she's haunted by the Nightmare man, a demon that comes to her in her dreams... And then it comes to her reality...

I honestly have no issue with monster/slasher films, but the production value of this film was so incredibly low that everyone in the theater couldn't help but give way to laughter. The demon's mask was absolutely pathetic, and attempts to catch the victim were just... poorly choreographed... The dialogue was stereotypically bad, but not so bad as to be self-conscious parody... Just an all around bad movie. As in, I want that hour and a half back. WOW. D-

Crazy Eights

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...hts_poster.jpg

Session 9 meets The Grudge. In a good way.

A ghost story involving 7 old friends, an old found box, and an old building. The present is confronted by the mistakes and shortfalls of the past. Definitely not a novel concept, but the execution was so incredibly clean that it left me digging my nails into my poor boyfriend's hand throughout the entire film. Crazy Eights takes a similar setting as Session 9 with the cast dealing with ghosts of their past (both metaphorical and literal) and couples it with the slow, methodical, hauntingly creepy suspenseful direction similar to Takashi Shimizu and other Japanese directors (the ghost aspect also follows similar themes). The writing and acting were incredibly vivid and captivating.

This was definitely the scariest film of the entire festival and a must-see for horror fans. A/A+

WOW. Great way to end a horror-fest weekend!

Very nice job on the reviews Chronogrl. ;)

The Ferryman.

Most recent horror I have been watching has been pretty average, but this one came across as a pleasant surprise. It has loads of atmospheric creepiness mingled with some very good and creative suspense throughout. The plot drags a bit in-between, but some notable directing and acting pulls it forward smoothly through the second half. It is technically solid, with great cinematography and a fresh look...so I give this a good 07/10.

Recommended to Alky, Rod, urge, newb, jenna, Styg, Austin, Elvis and the fans of atmospheric stuff.

Already seen it. It was pretty good. Good acting and decent story.

Ahhh.... What a welcome breath of fresh air this film was. Original, stylish, funny, gory, well-acted, well-directed... What more could you want? This is one of the best zombie movies to come out in a while, probably since Shaun of the Dead.

I Now Pronouce You Chuck and Larry

It's official. Adam Sandler is no longer anywhere near as funny as he once was. This movie is one cliche gay joke after another for 90 minutes. While there are a handful of funny parts, this is FAR from being a funny movie. The King od Queens guy just isn't funny and Sandler seems like he's really just run out of jokes. The plot is predictable and slow paced, the jokes are hit or miss. It's always fun to see the cameos from the cast of Sandler regulars (Rob Schneider, Steve Buscemi, etc...) but even those were decidedly less funny than usual. Overall, save your cash and your time and skip this one.

Ratatouille

I'm a big fan of Patton Oswalt, but this movie was really geared towards little kids too much for me to get in to it. Physical comedy in an animated film is absolutely retarded unless you are under the age of 5 and there's TONS of it in this one. The story was okay, the acting was fine, the CGI looked great, but overall I just didn't find this entertaining at all. Maybe if I was 6 years old or younger...

It is designed for middle of the road couples who aren't very happy with them self, and at 2 hours and 10 mins... I don't see the appeal, It's a cheap tactic to make some money and nothing more... just a waste of your time. The type Of Movie Kevin Smith would make on a bad day while he has taken to much Valium... Worse than Jersey girl!

Jersey Girl was an honest romantic comedy and probably one of the better films in the genre.

I just watched Jumanji for the first time. No, I don't know why. Wasn't bad though.

I don't know......I get the fact that Clooney & Co. are the "NEW" rat pack....it just seems like these movies are a bit self indulgent.

I didn't hate it....it just was.

The Ferryman

horrible music, and I felt that after most of the characters got killed off it was a boring finish. entertaining enough but I think it could have been much better.

Reincarnation

Another weird asian horror movie. Not that scary but it did have some freaky parts, mainly in the beginning... I think it kind of fizzled out after the first half in the scariness department

"Rise: Blood Hunter"
- Lucy Liu, Micheal Chiklas

Story of a reporter (Liu) who is killed by a vampire, returns as a vampire then goes out for revenge by killing the vamps who turned her.
Chiklas is a cop who's daughter was killed by the same vamps and he ends up helping Liu's character.

One of the most boring movies I have ever seen. No scares, little action and a terrible plot. Not worth the effort of even renting it.
