Dracula. 09/10 Awesome movie. Fantastic portrayal of Lugosi as the Count. Thoroughly enjoyable from first to last, and doesnt have one dull moment. In my opinion, the best movie made on the legend of Dracula yet. Today's generation might say that the movie is slow, but my dearies, absorb the atmosphere of this one and you will be so frightened of Lugosi that you cant sleep for nights. Dwight Frye as Renfield is another really strong character. If you consider yourself a horror fan and a bonafide member of HDC, you must have watched it already. If not, (get the F out!!:D ) do yourself a HUGE favor and watch it. Right NOW. |
Hated: G.G. Allin and the Murder Junkies
A documentary on the life of one of the most infamous punk rockers of all time. This guy was so disturbed that he made Sid Vicious look like a choir boy. His antics included self-mutilation and defecating on stage. As if that wasn't enough, he would then proceed to eat his own shit. Don't watch unless you have a strong stomach. |
Beowulf and Grendel
I must admit that I am a sucker for anything associated with viking lore, so this review may be tainted by my deep love of the genre, but I really enjoyed this one and wasn't expecting it to be so damned entertaining. The location shooting alone gives a this treatment of the epic poem a sense of reality that one rarely sees. Sure Grendel's costume showed a few seams, but he was there, not CG and for that I was appreciative. I didn't particularly care to see Hrothgar's portrayed as such a pussy, but I liked Gerard Butler and Sarah Polley and really enjoyed Ingvar Eggert Siguršsson's embodiment of Grendel. I'm still looking forward to Zemekis' super high dollar version of this tale, but this one was quite fun. B |

Had the bad luck to watch the old Hammer film Lust for a Vampire. There's not much vampiring and even less lust. Disappointing - considering it's billed as a sexy vampire story set in a girl's boarding school.

Brian Avenet-Bradley's "Freez'er" 5/10
It's certainly no "Dark Remains", but for his first movie it was quite good and entertaining, despite its very limited budget. |

Shivers. Early Cronenberg.
Excellent film, sort of like Body Snatchers. The first 10 minutes are jaw-dropping. |

we watched i heart huckabees first but she didnt like that, at all.... she said clerks 2 was better cause it was crude humour and the lord of the rings bit was hilarious |
Easy Rider - 7/10
totally thrown by the ending, it made me say "WHAT THE HELL!?" One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - 8/10 the head nurse was a bitch. |
Final Destination 3.
Eh. Ian was a cool character, but that was pretty much it. |

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
Good- very good- but nowhere near the last one. It just wasn't...personal enough. I didn't seem to connect with anyone as much this time around, and, if I hadn't seen the rest of the bunch, or read the book, I wouldn't have connected much at all. It did contain some of the most incredible visuals I've seen to date, and advanced far past its predecessors in that sense. The storyline was always kept, somehow, believable, and never reached a point of cheese; the pacing, in fact, was unbelievably good, and it feels nowhere near its two-point-five hour running time. Questions: Where can I get Hermione's phone number? Concerns: No Quidditch... Overall: 4/5 |

I watched Saw 3 for the first time last night. That is one hell of a movie.

Shrek, Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix, suspiria.

The Stendhal Syndrome ~ first time I have seen this one, and its surprisingly straight forward for a Argento film....lol....it fits all together very well, yet still has that dreamlike quality about it often.....but I wasn't buying Asia Argento in the lead role. She did well at the end.....but up until then, she seemed out of place maybe because she just seemed a bit young to me. Some very uncomfortable scenes, and also of course, some good visuals. Not my favorite Argento film, but definitely not bad. Worth a look.
The Departed ~ excellent. One of Scorsese's best, though I still prefer Goodfellas. The Prestige ~ very well done, though I personally had a bit of a problem relating to either of the characters. But a good cast giving some really strong performances, and a wonderful look. |
Hard Candy.
Not bad...gets pretty tense in parts. Half way between wanting the male lead to get some pain on account of the guy we know he's supposed to be, and rooting for him to somehow kill the girl, who was annoying, smug, and...looked like a boy... I suppose there's some kind've lesson to be learned here in regards to the "perils of the internet", but no conclusion a person with any self respect and/or on the opposite end of the spectrum - a person with any good sense wouldn't have come to, eh? **Spoilers** Not sure if it's only me here, but the whole "operation"? I saw the conclusion miles off, fit in so easily to the character they established. + I kind've would've been happier if they both went over the edge... **END spoilers*** Overall say 6.7/10, if you've seen it before, seems not much point in seeing it again. Watching "Lord of War" at the moment, which I'm quite liking thus far. |

Seraphim Falls
I was a little slow in getting to this one. It presented little new in the genre except possibly a heightened level of moral ambiguity. Great performances some good gore and one WTF shot that really excited me. The Devil in the end took me out of the picture, but I'll forgive it. B- |

The Exorcist. 09/10 "The most terrifying movie ever made" might sound like an over-hyped tag to today's viewers, but I can see what kind of impact it made back when it was released. The whole atmosphere of the possession affecting the normal life of a common, everyday mother & daughter is shocking enough...and the subsequent exorcism, plus some of the really intense visuals...can shake the hardest of hearts. Too bad the sequels couldnt replicate the sheer visual impact of the original, or the Exorcist franchise would have been unparalleled in the horror genre. This is THE milestone in on-screen visual terror, oft repeated but never bettered. Ever. |
The Messengers (2007) 7/10

Shadow of the Vampire.
Clever, but not exactly what I had hoped. Once again, great concept, not terribly well executed. Willam Defoe was great though. |

The graphic *expletives* uttered from the mouth of a 12yr old child also contributed to the shock factor. We take our ease of expression very much for granted these days - it's not a big deal anymore! But, yes, for it's time, The Exorcist was one of the king's of horror for impact. It certainly did affect people. |
anchorman, 9/10. one of the best comedies, it's science!

Attack of the Giant Leeches. Cheesy fun film.

Evil Alien Conquerors
This might be the the worst movie to be released in the new millenium. It was just a bunch of unfunny jokes followed by bunch of shameless whoring of Sun Chips and Smirnoff Ice followed by a bunch more unfunny jokes, all wrapped together in an incredibly moronic plot and poorly made film. This would easily by one of the lowest F grades I've ever dolled out, but there was 1 character that showed up ni the 3rd act that was actually quite hilarious and he was enough to pull the grade up to a... The Thing From Another World. 08/10 In many respects, its superior to JC's remake - like sympathetic characters, excellent atmosphere and pace, and some really neat direction and scripting. But the story is somewhat different in patches of course, and thats where JC's remake scores. The effects look really dated (but of course!), but they were pretty much decent for a 50s movie. Overall I enjoyed it for the most part. Its a great movie. No wonder it inspired JC so much. Thanks again to alky and Z for recommending it to me. |
Letters from Iwo Jima-
I did enjoy Flags of our Fathers to a certain extent but I found Letters from Iwo Jima much the superior movie.Stunning 9/10 |
