Have you seen Overnight? It's the documentary about the director, Troy Duffy who hit the jackpot with his script sale and promptly assholed his way out of Hollywood. It's an amazing document of self-destruction and a cautionary tale for everyone who wants to make it in film.

Hmmm...sounds interesting. And useful. I'm gonna check that one out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Watched a screener of a DTV movie [ I don't think it got a theatrical release] coming out in June called " Big Nothing".It stars Simon Pegg [Shaun, Hot Fuzz] and David [Friends] Schwimmer. This was a much better movie than I expected and most definitely worth a viewing. Simon Pegg does a very convincing american accent.

The Departed

OK! I may be the only one on the planet, but I DON'T THINK that it's quite as astonishing as most people claim. The acting is fantastic, the story is great, the plot, violence (when present...) But.... I think it's just not my type. So, even though alky will have my neck for it:

8/10

I watched Jacobs Ladder and The Mangler this morning. 2 kick ass movies if I do say so myself.

Ridiculous insanity with a rockin' soundtrack and crazy-ass visuals and sound.
There's just no rest in this movie.
Love it.

Agreed 100%! One of my favorite action movies ever, but easily one of the best in the past decade or so.

Duel

Who says PG-rated horror films can't be good? Well, usually... I do, but not in this case. An early film from Steven Spielberg, this movie builds more suspense with 1 guy, a mysterious truck and miles of open road than a lot of other movies do with tens of millions spent on budget. I wasn't real pleased with the ending because it didn't offer much closure, but overall this is pretty entertaining and plus, it's one you can watch with the kids.

Mannaja: A Man Called Blade

Sergio Martino (Torso) directs one of the last Spaghetti Westerns with too much smoke and not enough blood, but tons of machismo. Starring the charismatic hero of several great poliziechi (Italian Cop flicks), Maurizio Marli who lets his hatchet do the talking, Mannaja is loaded with themes and set-pieces that echo Martino's Giallo background. Not exactly a thinking man's film, but I get off on this kind of macho bullshit.

If you're into Italian genres, go for it.

Four Rooms
The third and fourth shorts were my favourite, of course being directed by Robert and Quentin. The second was good too, but I didn't at all care for the first. I got the idea it was a homage to those 70's romp movies, which I find hilarious, but it didn't do it that well IMO. Glad I saw the flick, but it's not my favourite piece of work from RR or QT.

The first was forgettable while the second was missing just a little something to push into onto the same level as the last two. I liked the movie as a whole but probably could have just seen the last two parts fleshed out more and been ok with them cutting the first couple. I liked the way they tied into each other with the little things like phonecalls etc...

Astro Zombies
Cheap, stupid fun. I liked it.

Faster Pussycat Kill Kill
Some great lines in this one! One of Russ Meyer's best!

A History of Violence.
I thought the storyline a touch stretched, however I still quite enjoyed this thriller. Some graphic violence and the presence of the very hot Maria Bello kept me interested.7/10

I had been meaning to watch this for a while and i'm glad I finally gave it a whirl,I wouldn't call it a great thriller but it did keep me entertained and the violent scenes are pretty cool. There are some serious sex scenes that I felt didn't need to be there, but hey,it was Maria Bello so it was all good!

Can't wait for the third one...have you checked out the latest trailer at apple.com? Looks fucking great.
I'll be seeing it at the end of this week, comes out on the third here.

I'm about half way through the evil dead right now. Classic.

Sick_As_Fuck 04-28-2007 09:26 PM

Just watched "Halloween: H2O" for the umpteenth time. I still don't understand all the hate this movie gets. Especially since it essentially continues from part II and ignores the shit that is parts 3-6.

Open Season

Well, I don't know... After films like Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Madagascar it takes a little more than cool animation to impress me with a family film these days. Some of them tend to get too preachy, but that wasn't the problem with Open Season. The problem with Open Season was that it just pretty much sucked. Martin Lawrence and Ashton Kutcher combine for about one gram of funny between the two of them and the plot to this was just lame.

Don't waste your time on this one, there are better family friendly films than this one.

Sublime

I thought this was pretty good for a blind rent that I didn't know anything about. Good suspense, fucked up story that keeps ya guessing and a good acting job from some relatievly unknown actors. All in all, this was a pretty cool medical psychological thriller.
