Grindhouse

Planet Terror (2007)
Fun, fun, fun. Hot chicks, guns, zombies, and BBQ...what more could one want in a movie?! I loved this one...Rodriguez exceeded my expectations.

Deathproof (2007)
More serious in tone, and a bit of a slow start, but once it got movin', it rolled. It was Faster Pussycat...Kill, Kill! on speed. The only thing I can complain about here is that Tarintino's signature dialogue was so strong and abundant in the first half that it almost became a self-parody, and bordered on redundant.

Rodriguez captured the style of grindhouse cinema, Tarintino captured the themes. Together they supplied one of the most entertaining nights at the movies I've ever had.

boo. 3/10. what a pile of shite. just so boring and contrived. i was wondering when i would find a piece of shit to rival 2001 maniacs and hoboken hollow. i'm gonna keep them together as a trilogy - the axis of shit.

taras bulba.9/10. i love this old movie. it took ages to find it but worth the wait. i'd like to see it remade but staying true to the book by gogol. the only problem is it would basically be a ukrainian cossack braveheart. fingers crossed!

I got through about 15 minutes of the film before it dawned on me I did have the power to turn it OFF.

I just watched "The Haunting" and it still works. It still works, folks, just in case you were thinking of watching it.

The Curse.
It was okay, pretty gooey. It could have been WAY better though. I think this one is definitely remake material.

Subhuman

I think this is one that most people wouldn't like...

But, I enjoyed listening to the main character talk...He was pretty interesting

I was surprised that I liked it...Doubt that I'll watch it again anytime soon, but I'm glad I watched it once :)

Vodstok 04-13-2007 11:07 AM

chicken little. Not bad. Not terribly good...

We have finally reached the point with CGI movies that they are pretty much the same as every other type, some good, some okay, some crappy. With Pixar and dreamworks not being the only kids on the playground, cgi movie quality is taking a beating.

Oh, and I also saw 300 again, from the comfort of my own bed... :)

And I am pleased to say my wife liked it too :)

Yeah...it's the Japanese version, and I don't understand what anyone is saying but I can more or less figure things out, as long as I know that this is the brother and this is the sister and that's the employer....

The Japanese cut is very different from the American version that Universal released.

Pitch Black. 08/10

I still say this is one kickass horror/action movie.

After work, I m popping in F13 pts. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, X. One long movie-athon for this special day. (and no, I aint gonna watch pt.5...nope, nope, nope)

Psycho 3

I swear I don't think there's ANYTHING that anyone could do to Psycho would make me love it any less

I have the original, the remake, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4...The guy in the remake is kinda weird, NOT 'Norman Bates weird', but he still did a pretty good job, I wanted to dislike that one because it wasn't Anthony Perkins (and I can't stand Anne Heche), but I just couldn't

@ V...Pitch Black gets a lotta shit, but I don't know why...I've always thought it was a really good movie

I like it. I think it's too slow at the beginning but the darkness scenes are very frightening, and **************spoiler- I love how the girl gets taken away at the end******end

swiss tony 04-13-2007 03:42 PM

tumbledown. 9/10. bbc movie about a falklands veteran starring a young colin firth. brilliant. a bit like born on the fourth of july but british and not overstated.

big nothing. 7/10. simon pegg and ross from friends in a crime caper with a few laughs. only about 80 mins long. think fargo mixed with shallow grave.

So...Did you like Chronicles Of Riddick, too?...We bought it BECAUSE we liked Pitch Black so much...I thought Chronicles Of Riddick was okay, but it wasn't nearly as good as Pitch Black

I liked both movies a lot, the animated stuff, and the videogame... the whole universe is captivating.

I watched Willard (Crispin Glover) and Grindhouse last...

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

If at all, the first 30-odd minutes were a tad slow after they crash, but after then everything runs at a swift pace once the first guy gets grabbed. And some of the visuals are absolutely breathtaking, like the Saturn-esque planet emerging on the horizon and eclipsing the suns, and then the creatures coming out...that has got to be one of the best visuals in cinema-making CGI history.

The cinematography done in near-dark conditions is brilliant and adds to the tense and creepy atmosphere. Like Posh pointed out, the movie does have a number of high points, and I am surprised at anyone who chooses to bash Pitch Black.

Regarding Chronicles of Riddick, I thought it was decent. Maybe people wanted it to be Pitch Black II, and got a Conan-in-Space type of movie, thats why it didnt go down too well with them. I think it was a worthy successor, with a touch of class added to it.

For those who choose to bash Chronicles, I have a suggestion. Rent Riddick: Dark Fury (yea the animated one). You ll have a better perspective of the movie series, and appreciate Chronicles more.

@ Des, I read your review of Grindhouse. And I am glad you liked it too. (A- is good enough):D

And play the videogame! Seriously, the XBox game is amazing and adds sooo much to the movies and the mythos of Riddick in general. Best videogame based on a movie ever.

Yes the game is kickass. The visuals and the storyline of the game is awesome. And Riddick does have some really fine moves too.

Those who dont have XBoxes need to at least watch all 3 movies of Riddick. Watch em independent of the other and think they share the same character, and you ll know what I mean.

Yeah I was forced to watch this load of crap too. Hubby complains that all I watch is horror and he wants to pick the movie - and comes home with this dog. Then I had to watch it all the way through rather than be accused of 'not trying to like something else'. Yeah - it would be great for a 5 year old.

Hellboy- This is one fantastic movie... It astounds me every time. It has flaws and stuff, but the story holds, and is really good and freaky, the action is awesome, it has the coolest weapon ever (see new thread in gen.) and pretty nice acting. Amazing special effects too!

9/10

Van Helsing- This is another great one...... with big problems. Great movie, 2 1/2 great actors, amazing story ( I thought it was well put together) great action of course, and a repeater. So what's the problem you ask?

dialogue. fuck! It's absolutely MISERABLE to listen to! Just watch it in a foreign language so you won't understand it, because it's TERRIBLE. Stupid lines, and pointless yammering on (frankenstein's stupid creation), whatever. That's the lowest point. On the same side, there's a lot of bad acting... The frankenstein guy did the single most hateable acting i've ever experienced, and dracula's stupid brides are friggin obnoxious and squeal a lot. Dracula, on the other hand, is the 1/2 mentioned earlier. I think he either did a very good job, or a terrible job. He wasn't all that bad, and he has a good "dracula" look to him. I think the dialogue just brought them all down, even kate and hugh a bit. The main bride had ONE line where she looked convincing, and that was when she said "and I say you can go when you're DEAD!" <decent. The cgi is terrible, but it was pretty low budget I suppose, but it is just another mindless action flick.

Don't watch this expecting a masterpiece, watch it for the kick ass factor.

6/10

dark water (japanese) it was ok
wolf creek it was good but the end kind of strange in the way it was told since the "witness" didn't witness anything except what happened to that person who ins the witness.

sorry didn't want to spoil it for anyone but check it out the killer is cool and funny
